He's not Duncan of 2003, but he's still better than 80% of the bigs in the league. He put up 25 and 14 tonight.

You can NOT play basketball for the rest of your life. Might as well play until the wheels fall off. I think he has 1 or 2 years left.

Why is there such a lack of low-post scoring big men in the NBA today?

Off the top of my head I can only name a few.

Duncan
Dwight
Blake
Bynum
Love (or is he mainly a jump shooter too)

I've heard a few analyst mention that they didn't believe the Thunder could make it this far because they are a jump shooting team but aren't most of today's teams jump shooters?

I didn't expect Oklahoma City to make the finals. That team is looking real hard to beat.

I'm still thinking Seattle Supersonics when it comes to the Thunder.

Its time to completely enjoy the summer also. Instead of being on here. hahaha

You know, some of us "older" folk have to work during the summer ;) Enjoy it while it lasts...

I sure miss the days of Hakeem Olajuwon, that man was a true beast!

Ever since those players of the 90's retired (Malone, Stockton, Kemp, Ewing, Robinson, etc), I find it hard to watch a lot of bball now. Mostly just watch the playoffs and look at box-scores throughout the season.

The league seems to go in waves.

It was a G/SF game in the 80s/90s with Jordan, Magic, Bird, Clyde, Nique, etc

It was a big mans game in the mid-late 90s/early 00s with Duncan, Robinson, Ewing, ONeal, Hakeem, Dikembe, etc..

Then it turned back into a G/F game with Kobe, James, Wade, Melo...

And now it's moving to a scoring PG game with Rose, Parker, Westbrook, Paul, Williams.

Honestly, I think the REASON behind the lack of scoring bigs, is that the game has evolved too much speed for a low post big. You need a big that can score on the block, but can also get up and run. There aren't many of those, anymore. It's a full-court game now. Not a half-court game.

Which is also why you won't see many dynasties. I think you'll see a bunch of one and dones with teams, because shooters go cold. Low post scoring never does.

Love's only a low post guy by virtue of his skill-set and his college position, same with Blake Griffin.

Both of those guys are sized more for the small forward position.

There are really only three or four scoring big men in the NBA right now that are worth noting: Duncan, Howard, Bynum, and Bosh.

LeBron James is 0-2 in elimination games. Hopefully after tonight it's 0-3, but I have a gut feeling Miami wins and forces a game 7.

It would be amazing if they were the Sonics right now.

Still a shame how that entire situation went down. Seattle is a huge basketball town too.

You sure about Blake and Griffin? They are both listed at 6'10", that seems adequate.

As for Bosh I think he is mainly a jump shooter. He is a little too light to consistently score in the low post.

Good point made on their height. I just don't think they're that tall though. They look more 6'8".

I wouldn't be surprised if their listed height is not their actual height, especially Kevin Love.

And I was right..

PF: Kevin Love (“6-10”): He measured at 6' 7.75," but that isn’t what makes Kevin Love’s height deception so dastardly. It’s that K-Love is photographed at the height level of a “6-8” Derrick Williams. Now some would say, “This makes his rebounding all the more impressive.” I’m not so forgiving. Turn in your World Championship trophy, you dirty heightener, you.

Edit: Blake Griffin was measured at 6'8.5 barefoot and 6'10 in shoes at the combine

A few players come to mind when I think back to the SuperSonics.

Gary Payton, Jack Sikma and Shawn Kemp.

I don't think the Heat will beat the Thunder anyways.

It doesn't matter who they play, the Thunder will win it.

I said that about the Spurs and they went home.

I think this is totally up in the air unless the Celtics win. The Thunder will run the Celtics out of the gym.

The Heat are actually a really good defensive team when they try hard, and they're a transition team like OKC. Would be a great series.
