Dallas has scored more points than any team in the NFL..and..part of turnover differential is the offense not turning the ball over..

I'd like to know the average starting field position of Dallas' opponents this year and where it ranks. We punt and have GREAT kick coverage, so just about any points scored against us have got to be earned against long fields.

One punt against Denver I think? The only other stop was an interception. That's just....terrible.

As terrible as it was, Denver's defense was just as bad. The one stop the defense did get was at the end of the game and they gave Romo as chance to end it.

Here are the stats. We're number 5 in capitalizing on turnovers in the league.

So 60 points on 19 Turnovers is like Avg 3 point per, right? Then you have to back out defensive scores (like pick 6s) which amount to 21 points.

So 16 turnovers for 39 points is approx 2.4 points per offensive possession after a TO.

This team seems to be all about stats that seem to make no sense.

Notice how the Lions took Witten out of this game with double coverage. They weren't worried about shutting down Dez but boy they wanted to make sure Witten got shut down. That is because they know Witten is Romo's security blanket and if you take him completely out of the game Romo panics. Romo should have made them pay for that though and gone to Dez over and over again... the same way Stafford went to Megatron.

I think to be fair you have to realize that Stafford did not have that same level of pressure.

This is just so funny to see how a year ago we were crying for more Turnovers. Now that we have it, we give up on something else.

This team has trouble being good at more than one thing at a time.

Either way it is good enough for 5th in the NFL. We are 2nd in TO differential and 5th in points scored off turnovers. Those are both great stats that almost any team would take.

The problem is we are decimated on the D Line, we are not getting pressure on QB's. We get pressure yards go down and a lot more punts and maybe even more INT's.

I saw him get plenty of pressure. He wasn't just sitting back there with all day to throw.. we did get pressure on him. Both QB's had pressure on them all game. Neither of them had horrendous pressure or anything. Hell, there was only one sack the whole game and that was on Stafford.
There is no excuse for only throwing the ball Dez's direction 6 times the whole game when Witten was double covered.

I believe defensive scores are skewing the stat. But even if we were first in the NFL it does not pass the eye test. Too many times our offense is killing us with stalled drives and 3 and outs.

Yes, we know our defense sucks.. but can we get more out of the offense?

Exactly..Same with Seattle last night..I like what Saban of Alabama said.
There is no such thing as a cover cornerback.

You have to have a pass rush..and Dallas pass rush of Ware, Ratliff, Spencer and Tyron Crawford is gone and replaced by guys who were on their couch a couple of weeks ago.

Alex Smith and those unknown receivers have a perfect record and lead in TO differential. The key difference is that their defense doesn't bleed yards.

key difference is they have a coaching staff that knows how to utilize their talents.

I remember an old coach, can't actually remember who, but he always said when you get a TO you attack on offense.

He said you weren't suppose to have the ball anyway so you should treat like a free play. When they got a pick, or fumble, he would almost always throw a bomb on the first play.

I've always liked that philosophy.

It takes into account the 4 defensive TDs and the numerous times the offense was already in the redzone or in FG range. Look at every drive separately after a TO and the Cowboys haven't moved the ball much.

The single most correlative statistic to winning in the NFL is turnover differential, which makes this even stranger. Either our turnovers or our record are an aberration.

Our record is. Based on our points differential (+5.5 per game), we should be either 5-3 or 6-2 right now.

The Cowboys are number 1 in the NFC with a +9 turnover differential. They are second in the league ONLY to Kansas City. That is the most confusing thing about this year by far. In 2011 and 2012, you could EASILY point to why we lost games; we turned the ball over too many times. That just plain isn't happening this year, but we are seeing the same results.

It's actually awesome to see. Problem is, we're still easy to pass the ball against, and passing game differential is what wins games in this league. We're going to struggle against the very good QBs until we find some way to fix it.
