2013 Turnover Differential

One punt against Denver I think? The only other stop was an interception. That's just....terrible.

I was talking about the Lions and Giants games. Even though we might not have capitalized enough offensively on turnovers this season, had we not stopped the opposing team's offensive drives with multiple turnovers, we probably would have lost against the Giants and there wouldn't have been be any discussion of clock management gaffs by Jason this past weekend, because we would have been down by a couple of touchdowns in the 4th quarter rather than starting out ahead.

It's actually awesome to see. Problem is, we're still easy to pass the ball against, and passing game differential is what wins games in this league. We're going to struggle against the very good QBs until we find some way to fix it.

I wonder how much those who are clamouring for improvements on our offense understand how easy our defense makes it look for the other team sometimes.

The lions should have put up about 45 on us MINIMUM the way they were moving the ball.

Well, its going to be easier for opposing offenses when they're always on the field.

I saw him get plenty of pressure. He wasn't just sitting back there with all day to throw.. we did get pressure on him. Both QB's had pressure on them all game. Neither of them had horrendous pressure or anything. Hell, there was only one sack the whole game and that was on Stafford.
There is no excuse for only throwing the ball Dez's direction 6 times the whole game when Witten was double covered.

which is

easy or not, we have played the worst of the worst defenses in the recent weeks. There is no reason for us not to be attacking. I read somewhere that 4 of the last 5 games, we have played against the 31st or 32 nd ranked defense in the league. Playing conservative is plain dumb against these teams, there is a reason for them being ranked so low.

We actually are doing alright in that area. Our passer rating differential is about +12 which is not elite but good.

The real question is are these turnovers sustainable. If the turnovers stop with the sheer amount of yardage we are giving up even Tony's 101.7 passer rating will not save us. Not to mention with Waters out some of those offensive efficiency numbers from Tony could take a hit.

I don't think they are sustainable at this rate. I'd love to see some way of measuring 'turnovers earned', 'turnovers gifted' and 'turnovers neutral.' For instance, Lee's second interception was earned; he saw it read it, reacted and moved to it. It was a great play on the ball and took a concerted effort by Lee. That's the kind of turnover you should learn to count on, because you did something to get it. The turnover by Reggie Bush, on the other hand, seemed to be a simple tackle and an unbelievably stupid move on Reggie Bush's part. You cannot live and die by getting gifts like that.

I consider the other two INTs neutral. They weren't incredibly stupid plays by the other player, but your defense didn't do a ton to get them either (well, Carr may have interfered with Megatron a little on the first one,but that's another conversation).

A perfectly timed hit by the CB that knocked the ball out of the receiver's hands to a perfectly positioned player for an INT is defense-neutral?
