It all depends what kind of clout DePodesta has there. He may not be a consultant or maybe a tie-breaker if the FO is torn between two players.

Not sure that they would - they took Denzel Perryman in the second last year, and have high picks invested in Melvin Ingram and Manti Te'o as well.
