Nice post, but tbh the only loyalty a player should show is to his family and financial security.
Yeah...I even thought of that when writing that (what am I, in Disney World?); no one signs for less and hard to blame them considering the length of their careers and SB structure, etc.

Hopefully...but not a reach for one.

In a perfect scenario we'd add a couple of WRs in the draft.

Yeah hard for me to keep either TWill or Butler. Would like to see one drafted and one picked up in free agency, there are much better ones out there that can stretch the field out much better and give us a true deep threat.

I think Mo can either make some money playing great deep into the playoffs or get a 1/2 year prove it deal if he doesn't play great after returning. Larry Brown made some good retirement cash playing well in the biggest of games. Mo has more talent than Brown, but a good run deep into the playoffs will be the key to his next contract.

I saw last night where 2017 is an ultra good, ultra rich safety draft class.

So it would be easier to get a new safety if we decide to draft one. Wilcox and Church's agents will be disappointed as the market won't be as thirsty.

Supply glut ensures price on safeties will drop.

Only problem is with secondary players you have to allow them to develop. Would be nice to keep one then draft one to develop, but you only have a limited amount of resources. Really I would like to keep our secondary together, and probably for the first time in a decade, maybe actually keep both of our safeties.

I do believe we just have to at least keep one of Wilcox or Church, and maybe both so we can fill holes elsewhere.

not gonna lie, I'd take OJ Howard, assuming no DE of equal ability fell, In part because he would do wonders for the offense and also, the meltdown here would be epic.

Some of the reactions would be epic, but the bottom line is we do need more weapons for Dak to throw to. Sure what we have is good, but they could always be better. A complete TE for this offense would be incredible to go along with Witten, if we actually used him. Course we don't use the receiving skills of Escobar properly at all, so that question would be there.

We could use another receiving threat though, love to have a guy who can streak down the field when Dak runs that bootleg. Now all we do is throw it 3 yards to a non-athletic TE. We can do better than that and hopefully we will as only Dez can make a consistent difference down the field presently.

After listening to Jerry talk about Leary on the Fan this morning he sounded like Collins is gonna be the guy they're going with in the future. They mentioned something about possibly moving Collins to right tackle and Jerry pretty much shut that idea down.

If they had another year on their contracts maybe you keep one or both. Neither are worth re-signing, IMO.

Yeah I also let both walk. Dez goes down and they are both useless, its not like we are talking about kids here, they are getting older. There are better ones out there, hopefully we go that route and don't stay with these scrubs.

Defense should be high on our free agency priority list, but other parts of the team shouldn't be ignored. We should be wanting to upgrade Dak's weapons.

Who will we find cheaper than Williams? We aren't going into the season with Dez, Beasley,Whitehead and two rookies.

Here are the 2017 free agents and what I think the Cowboys will do:

Rolando McClain GONE
Morris Claiborne PROBABLY GONE
Ron Leary PROBABLY GONE
Barry Church KEEP HIM OR WILCOX
Mark Sanchez KEEP HIM OR MOORE
Andrew Gachkar PROBABLY GONE
Darren McFadden GONE
Lance Dunbar GONE
Jack Crawford PROBABLY GONE
Gavin Escobar PROBABLY GONE
Terrell McClain PROBABLY GONE
Justin Durant PROBABLY GONE
Johsua Thomas GONE
Terrance Williams GONE
Kellen Moore KEEP HIM OR SANCHEZ
J.J. Wilcox KEEP HIM OR CHURCH
Brice Butler PROBABLY GONE

The only big issue I see here is with the secondary.

Claiborne will get a big check when there are 32 teams bidding on him. I suspect the Cowboys will make efforts to sign him, but the price will get too high. Fortunately we have Brown and Scandrick. Will need a CB in the draft or FA.

Wilcox/Church. I would think the Cowboys will go hard to retain one of the two, probably Church. I suspect the salary needed won't be too painful.

Butler and Williams ultimately are JAGs. Keep or replace won't make much difference. I'd sure like the cowboys to get a WR/KR when they replace.

Kellen Moore could be retained on a minimum contract...so maybe it's him over Sanchez.

McClain and Crawford. I'll defer to other posters as I don't have a meaningful evaluation on these guys. But this upcoming draft is purported rich on defense ends. Tapper will also hopefully be contributing. McClain is a starter on our depth chart but is more of a rotational player, IMO.

I don't think Mo is getting the big payout you may think. He has never finished 16 game season in his NFL career. So whoever signs him will also have to have another CB who can handle starts when Mo is out.

Agreed.

He'll get a one-year "prove-it" deal.

He hasn't played enough or been consistent enough for a big-money, long-term contract.

Lol...what kind of blind team supporting crap is that?

Because I've seen Collins play OT. He's better than what's there now.

Nothing I said here is blind team supporting. You have seen Collins play OT in college, not in the NFL against NFL players, so it's really just a stab in the dark on your part to assume he can play RT.

As far as him being better than Free, he may be, but I don't think that's a bar set very high. I still think he can be a dominant player at guard, and don't see him being dominant at RT. Our plan to replace Free just should not involve Collins imo.

I don't think a Mohammed Sanu contract for Williams is "cheap".
My question was meant for people who want to move on from Williams. Who will start next to Dez next year? Butler isn't a starter to me and we'd have to draft a wr in round 1 to get a rookie starter. We are drafting too low in round 2 to get a day 1 starter imo

It will depend how good Mo looks when returns. If Cowboys win SB, everyone's price tag will skyrocket, injury history or not.

Cowboys need to hedge their bets and bring in Chris Culliver on friendly 2 year deal before postseason.

Plenty of guys you can get in the draft to play #2 if you scout well. Draft weak in #1 talent, but just fine in #2. Malcom Mitchell was a 4th rounder this year, Tajae Sharp was a 5th, Tyreek Hill was a 5th.

There's going to be a lot of good size WR's in the 3-4 range if WR isn't BPA in round 2. I'd definitely take a developmental guy later with some physical ability since we're kinda weak at WR.

And really, it matters much more about who's throwing them the ball.

I didn't say they would be cheaper, there is a reason TWill might come cheap.....he's not very good. It's hard to tell exactly who will be available this early, but I would definitely look to upgrade the position. Just cause Jack Crawford might be cheap, doesn't mean we should keep him.
