So in other words we only gave up a late1st round pick to get a #1 WR. Great job Jerry!
Other positions of equal, if not greater value -- OL, QB, TE, Safety, CB, DT -- could have been available with that 1st round pick.
In addition, that 1st round rookie would have been under contract with the NFL rookie wage scale.

By contrast, Cooper is a luxury WR, who will demand big money -- by March of 2019, Cooper will have a fully-guaranteed salary of $13 million, and if Jerry wants to sign him to an extension, Cooper will probably demand at least $30 million, fully guaranteed at signing.

If not signed to an extension, Cooper will play under the franchise tag year-to-year for 2019 and 2020, make more than $30 million, and then maybe sit out 2021 and become an unrestricted free agent in 2022, unless Jerry wants to pay him quarterback money that year.

Not only that, Cooper plays a position that the value of success is highly contingent on the quality, & competence of a first-rate QB.

The draft is about the future -- and what is typical, Jerry disregards the value of the draft for shiny glittery toys to sell to the fan base.

Cooper is 24. He IS the future. And the Cowboys were taking a WR in the first round anyways. Name one we could have got better than Amari Cooper.

If the Cowboys actually use Cooper then I will learn to like that pick but I just don’t trust them long term but so far so good.

I have no problem with Cooper the player though. He was a top 5 pick for a reason.

Former 5-star recruit was a bit of a disappointment at SC his first 3 years. Had a Byron Jones-like year this season.

SJSU TE Josh Oliver 6-5 #250 a big boy

https://sjsuspartans.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=619

AT SAN JOSÉ STATE: In his fourth season with the Spartans... A versatile tight end who gives the Spartans a big, long target on pass plays and is a capable blocker... 37 games played and 24 starts in his first three seasons... Has the most starts of any returning player on the Spartan offense... Signed a National Letter-of-Intent in February 2015... Three-time Academic All-Mountain West award winner... 2017 Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholar.

Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline lists San Jose State senior TE Josh Oliver as one of his "risers" after his performance in Week 5 against Hawaii.

Oliver was a monster in the five-overtime loss, catching eight passes for 158 yards with a touchdown. As Pauline notes, he's already up to 27 receptions, and he's been pretty easily the top threat for the winless San Jose State offense. "Oliver lacks the speed to stretch the field but is very much a receiver in a tight end's body," Pauline writes. "He’ll be a very good No. 2 at the next level and can be used in the slot or in a system that puts him in motion before the snap." Oct 1 - 9:25 PM

Still think the 24-year-old Cooper is a “luxury” pick who isn’t going to help our future?
