2024-25 College Football Thread

Not me, I thought that would be a pretty good battle. Ohio state is light years ahead of Penn State offensively. If Penn State managed to score 24 against Notre Dame, Ohio State might score 44
Going to be tough for ND win even before they were nailed with even more injuries. They are down a couple more OL after the PSU game and may have another DT who might be out next week.

ND seems to be on a magic ride playing above what the talent on the roster indicates. I think OSU is in for a dog fight. Texas was thisclose to tying that game before the insane play by Jack Sawyer.

at least the NFL bye;s are earned on the field strictly by record.

I know that they had to give the big four conferences some bennies to get the deal done but ASU and Boise State getting byes was just plain BAD.
No, it wasn't bad.
They awarded the 4 highest ranking conference champs which made the conference championship games actually mean something.
If you aren't going to award conf champs stop having the games altogether.

The P2 will force it to 16 teams so they can get 4 teams in each year GTD, lose Byes and we can watch a bunch of boring games against teams who have already played each other... yay!!!!!

so why should conference champions matter so much now? you seem to be unable to let that go.
And I agree that conf champ games no longer are necessary

Agreed . Texas took Jeremiah Smith off the radar. They made Tate and Egbuka do the heavy lifting.

If ND can do the same that's their best shot. I just don't know if they have the speed to hang with that stable of receivers

Tough battle for sure. I hope ND wins but either way just hoping for a good game

Yes the ND secondary has the speed. Anyone watching their games knows that.

Are you a Notre Dame fan? Asking honestly.

I'm not trying to trash ND. I've watched a lot of their games. I don't see then as anywhere near fast enough to slow down Ohio State.

If I'm wrong let me have it after the NC game but dude, you're taking thua way too personal.

Yes I am a fan and I watched a lot of games and frankly you need glasses. Two of the CBs (one is injured) are rated as first rd picks. The starting Free Safety is likely to be either a first or second rd pick.
Notre Dame has the top stats versus the pass in college football. Look it up. so clearly you do not know what you are looking at

Well I guess we shall see. ND may have good pass stats but they haven't faced a receiver crew this good. Not even close

Again, if I'm wrong then I expect you to let me have it.

On the other hand, if I'm right you may rest assured I'll revisit this conversation.

For the record--again as I said earlier-- I'm hoping ND wins

i think notre dame's ability to generate turn overs gives them a chance in this one.
should be a great game.
go♧irish.

Disagree. Sure, a lot of games weren't competitive but that's not a given every year. The interest in the games is undeniable and makes the non-playoff bowl games even more pointless than they ever were. Who cares about Cal vs UNLV in the LA Bowl ? I don't even know why they bother playing it.

I expect the playoff to continue to expand and start earlier. Tweaks required in seeding and the timing with the portal.

Their secondary is one of the better ones in the country. They have the athleticism.

The issue they may have is they are just so beat up along the DL. Not even the best secondaries can keep up if there is no pressure.

Another thing is UT seemed to play a lot of zone to slow down OSU whereas ND plays a ton of man.

Agreed on the last point.

NDs scheme makes it incredibly difficult to defend Ohio state if you don't have early and sustained pressure on Howard

Its exactly how it happens in the NFL.
Top 4 seeds in each conference are the division winners.
No asks you who played; they award those 4 in each conference then they award the best of the rest seeds 5 and 6.

People whine about it, but it maintains importance in the regular season which also boosts ratings.
The Byes proved this year to mean jack squat. The 5-8 seeds won and advanced.
The title game is seeds 7 vs 8. Seeds and rankings are clearly not great at this.
Conf championships are won on the field, not in eye tests or public opinion polls.
Same way tourneys are won.

And why should college copy the NFL?

you get losing teams making the playoffs because they won a pathetic division.

for my irish:
♧knapp,ot...will not play.
♧jeremiyah love,rb...full go.
♧beau collins,wr...will play.
