Spurs aren’t that deep. Harrison Barnes couldn’t crack their rotation neither could Champagnie. That doesn’t mean the Thunder are better. But I do think they are deeper on paper. Spurs have something though. Didn’t expect to see it this quick.

I watch just about every OKC game. They have 12+ who would start on most teams.

Spurs just have their number at the moment. It may or may not last though. And the playoffs are what really matters. Another team could beat the Spurs in the playoffs and OKC may not even have to face them. Who knows. We shall see..

I looked down their roster, and holy Larry, you guys are right. Don't get me wrong, Spurs are incredibly deep and talented, but OKC is even deeper. Point taken.

However, if the Spurs' youngsters develop(Bryant especially), they could surpass them. It is close.

Oh I don’t know about 12 starting players. But guys on the bench like AJ Mitchell or Aaron Wiggins or Caruso or Jay Williams can start for teams.

I agree all of the above. And that’s the thing I was getting Spurs can’t beat the Warriors but the Thunder can’t beat them.

I’m not knocking Spurs. They are ahead of the curve and truthfully the older guys like Castle and Harper get and even Wemby the higher their ceiling will get. Harper and Castle are on the trajectory to being top players in this league.

For this year the question is when the playoffs come around and Thunder have a 8 man rotation and Sours have their 8 man rotation….and it’s a 7 game series can your role players outperform their role players?

I forgot Spurs even drafted Bryant. There’s gonna come a time when guys like Vassell and Barnes can’t crack Spurs starting lineup. That may be because of guys like Bryant. When that happens they will have arrived.

Its probably the Spurs year to be the 2023/24 Thunder. Nice playoff but fall short in the WCF. Like the Thunder the following year, that would help them take the next step

My mission in life is to see OKC get so paranoid they don't have the right mix, they make stupid trades here at the deadline to try and get over their Spurs hump.

BTW, I would say Spurs have about 8 guys that would start for many teams:

  • Wemby
  • Castle
  • Harper
  • Vassell
  • KJ
  • Barnes
  • Champaigne
  • Kornet (he has been on championship teams, deferring to the backup role)

Sochan would probably start on some crappy teams. He seems to be trade bait at this point, they don't play him anymore.
Kelly Olynyk was a regular starter not too long ago. Bench rotation for the Spurs with so much depth.
David Jones Garcia might work his way to starting on a bad team that needs a slasher. We have plenty but dude shines every preseason and summer camp.

All this talk about OKC depth but no one has made out a list yet like this.

That is exactly what I'm thinking!!!!!

While the Spurs roster is talented and deep, sitting on their laurels right now would be a huge mistake. We are still lacking in some key areas(shooting is the biggie). We absolutely cannot be afraid to trade away some assets to get better. Which is exactly what OKC has done.

Castle and Harper will get better as shooters, but under 30% from deep is definitely not optimal. Fox's 3 point shooting has been a nice surprise for you guys. However he is usually under 33% most seasons. I think it might be a good idea for you guys to move him and bring in a guy like Darius Garland. Garland is having a down year, but he is deep shooting is typically around 40%, and at 25 he fits the Spurs timeline better than Fox. I think if thats a move its likely two separate. But the Spurs would be selling high on Fox and buying low on Garland. Garland is also a good off ball player, and would fit well with Harper and Castle once they are asked to initiate more offense

Im skeptical OKC is willing to pay the repeater tax when the time comes. That team could get broken up then

They lack a bonafide outside shooter. But hey, not like TPark and Ginobilli came into the NBA as swoosh stars either. What they miss more right now is that wingman 3-pt and defender like they had with Bowen with TPark & Ginobilli, and later with Kawhi who just became an all around scorer. I think they keep hoping for Vassell to be that guy, and sometimes he is.

I would not move Fox at all. Team is just fine with him, Castle and Harper sharing the guard minutes and those 3 are a big reason for a lot of the wins when Wemby was out vs last year when team fell apart. The chemistry is great right now with everyone. They need to move their F Sochan now though. The experiment is over. Not even playing him anymore. Just going to turn into a bad situation. Like I said though, our forwards are the weakest positions. On nights when Barnes is young again and Vassell's shots are clicking, along with KJ continuing to be 6th Man of Year, it works just fine, but if they could find a good trade and not ruin team chemistry, I would look at 3 or 4 offers. Has to be someone who compliments Wemby too and his unique skillset.

Champagnie and Barnes are a stretch as is Kornet As starters.

That’s kind of me thinking that once Harper and Castle become better shooters is when it’s the Spurs time.
