Then why all those visits with safeties that had 2nd and 3rd round grades?

We've seen them ignore positions in the draft, for whatever reason, only to have that position play a pivotal role in ending the season. DT, WR, S.

Happening tonight. While they slap each other's backs on a backup G who will be inactive all year long, Jeff Heath gets run over by another RB

Totally agree and I'm sure the loss of Frederick played a huge part in that. I'm not thrilled with the pick because there are other needs that need to be addressed more than the oline. But, it sounds like he was probably the best player on their board.
I mean if fred cant go this makes sense

Maybe it would more effective to disrupt the play at the line of scrimmage

To be fair, Heath isn't the worst starting safety in the league (bottom 10 probably but not the absolute worst) and there are a lot of safeties with day 2 grades by the analysts that are still on the board.

Williams will be swing tackle this year with plans to move him up to starting and getting rid of Collins if he can play, with McGovern being guard.
Sorry don't see WIlliams as the swing tackle as a second round selection....Fleming is the swing tackle IMO

We were weaker at guard than we needed to be last year, and Collins hasn't been as strong at RT as he's needed to be. If McGovern fixes the interior and Williams moves outside and improves the RT spot, then this pick was worth it. If not, we had more pressing needs where there seemed to still be highly rated players.

No way do you kick an all-pro guard out to RT. Williams will be RT, McGovern guard.

Yes, Martin was a OT at Notre Dame. His contract is high for OG but reasonable for RT. Makes sense, this is about the time Larry Allen moved from OG to OT.
This draft is about 2020.

Is Amani Hooker still on the board? Why aren't we taking him?

And as far as McGovern being a 2020 pick, I don't even think he's that. Tyron, Martin, and Frederick will all be starting if they're healthy, we've got Connor Williams at guard, and Cam Fleming at RT. McGovern doesn't have a clear path to snaps even two seasons from now. Maybe the FO knows something we don't, but on its face this pick is ridiculous.

The guy will start at Guard this season.

Connor Williams was truly awful at Guard last year.

We have seen teams with quality DTs shut down our running game. skins, Rams, ect.. We can’t watch Connor Williams play out of position again this year.
