jerry likes his diversions
Frightening thing is, sometimes this is where he decides to tell the truth.
I've found that he is incredibly frank about our intentions. We have 4 RB's right now, so I would say that we don't have to draft a running back. They are excited about Williams and what he may be able to do. We have Randle and Dunbar, and we signed McFadden as veteran insurance. Everything screams 'do enough in FA so that we don't have to draft the position".
If a guy we like doesn't fall to us don't expect us to draft a RB.
There are a number of good backs and it would be rather foolish to pass on one of the deepest drafts in years just because you think you did enough in free agency by adding a career tease like McFadden, relying on a confirmed imbecile like Randle, and gambling on Ryan Williams to step up finally.
I like this sound of that.
Then he winked and mumbled "except for Adrian Peterson".
Man just stop already. He didn't say they weren't going to draft a RB. He just defense is a priority. You are making a bigger issue about what Jerry said.
I just wonder what the "good reason" is. Hopefully it is not code for "well, Leary's knees are about done". I think taking a swing tackle at 27 is a bit rich.
Lol-you're quick I actually meant for that response on a different post. While I agree with you, I would be ok if they picked a Cameron Erving early as he has soooo much position flex it would be like drafting three backups in one.
I think he might be simply implying that they're not going to reach for one. If Gordon is there at 27, I suspect they'll take him but everyone else would be a reach. And if Gordon's not there, they'll see what's there in the 2nd or 3rd, possibly after a trade down even.He also stated RB is "not urgent", then went to describe CB as "must". I realize it might be diversion, so I am not up in arms. But if true and they indeed ignore the deepest RB draft in a while, they are really not all that intelligent.

I do not think it is mandated but nearly everybody does it. It is just part of the process. What you reveal in it is up to the individual. Most of the time, teams use it as a last chance to use diversion and keep their real intentions shrouded.
