I may be falling for the bait but I've felt for a while that people will be surprised how long Dallas waits before selecting a RB. I think it will be one of the main storylines of the draft. "When will Dallas finally select a RB?" If they don't get lucky with Gordon or Gurley in the 1st, I could easily see them not addressing RB until the 4th and I'd be OK with it.

I expect it. Cowboys fans just want the splash guy like Gordon or Gurley because they are big names but you can find a running back in this league all the way up to the 6th round. You can't find premiere defensive talent that late. Well you can by sheer luck but running back is a lot easier to address in later rounds.

I just wonder what the "good reason" is. Hopefully it is not code for "well, Leary's knees are about done". I think taking a swing tackle at 27 is a bit rich.

Good reason, if we are going by how they've been drafting, would mean that they think it may very well be the best value at 27.
Straight forward

7. PRE-DRAFT NEWS CONFERENCE – Every team is required to hold a pre-draft news conference with its head coach, and/or general manager, and/or player personnel director within two weeks of the draft. The purpose is to respond to fan interest in the draft and off-season squad development and promote a key league and club event.

Interesting, I did not know that. I guess it is just to get everyone riled up and Goodell can say "are you EXCITED NFL Fans?".

I never understood the need to do a pre draft press conference. Does the league mandate this? Nothing good can come from it and it's possible that someone might say something that helps other teams during the draft. I wish they would just shut their mouths about anything and everything related to the draft until after they have made their last pick. Then babble on about anything you want.
No. It's not a must.
Most teams just release a statement about draft plans....
Best player... Posititon need will dictate we get a player for that position.
Value....
If you don't think that 99% of what they say has already been covered by them in advance....

What you seem to miss here.
Is The Cowboys branding being out there in the news at every opportunity.
They have an hour of TV time they did not have to pay for.

There are a number of good backs and it would be rather foolish to pass on one of the deepest drafts in years just because you think you did enough in free agency by adding a career tease like McFadden, relying on a confirmed imbecile like Randle, and gambling on Ryan Williams to step up finally.

...and I only said that if a back we like doesn't fall to us...I didn't say we wouldn't draft a back. I just think we are prepared to move forward without drafting back rather than reaching for one. We have had success in recent years in the draft by using FA to fill holes so that we can truly take BPA. So I expect that formula will be applied to the RB position.

I've found that he is incredibly frank about our intentions.

You are right. When Jerry talks a lot of fans say.. "Smoke and mirrors" but Jerry is actually very frank about his intentions the vast majority of the time. They better not think they are fine at RB.... but Jerry and co have done done some really dumb things at times.

He also stated RB is "not urgent", then went to describe CB as "must". I realize it might be diversion, so I am not up in arms. But if true and they indeed ignore the deepest RB draft in a while, they are really not all that intelligent.

They are in fact that dumb. Don't kid yourself. There is no diverion or anything.

Garrett's. Expression. Never. Changes.
I think that's a cardboard cutout of JG.

Notice Jerry's in the middle. So if he starts to let something slip, either Stephen or Jason or both can kick him under the table.

I seem to remember yourself and many others last season singing the same song. Just keep in mind: If you (or anyone else from this forum) were at that press conference on the podium with those three, you'd still be the dumbest guy in the room. That's not a slam on you, personally, or anyone else. It's just the facts.

It's easy to sit back and be a critic. The job of a critic is that of a coward. They don't have to invest anything. Their decisions or opinions have, literally, no effect on the world or how it works. It's a license to ***** and whine with no repercussion. I would think with how stupid some posters looked after last season that they might be smart enough to keep a lid on the trap and see how this whole thing pans out before claiming that the FO or coaching staff is "in fact dumb". I guess some people are just really slow learners. Ya can't fix stupid (or stubborn), I suppose.

I am going to trust them but if they trade up for Cb then we will have trouble at VR.

I would like to see the Cowboys draft FL ST OL Cameron Ervin in the 1st. I think that would mean that the Cowboys got the best OL in the draft three years running. First with Frederick, next with Martin, and now Ervin. Ervin can play all 5 spots in the OL. And I think he might be able to beat Free or Leary out for a starting position.

Take a RT and he can be the swing tackle this year and replace Doug Free next year.............maybe the A&M tackle in the 2nd in a trade back possibly.

I think that is what Jerry might have been hinting at.
