game with more pluses than minuses

1) Turp-played better than even the most optimistic fan thought possible
2) penalties were down although Smith picked up another
3) defense did good job playing as a group. Mukuamu looked good
4) offense-ol had pretty good game.with protection. Good to see Tolbert have a couple catches.
5) think DiNucci is gone but being a MM project who knows.

where is Donny? He hurt? I haven't heard a peep from him all camp.
He’s a starter and we haven’t seen hardly any starters but yes he’s been quiet

I believe he’ll be here week 1 but we can find a spot for Bell as well

can’t we have our cake and eat it too?

Kelvin Joseph is on the bubble guys. Yeah I said it. Dude hasnt moved the needle. He looks like he is unsure still. He is a half step behind all the time. He may get cut. Bland didn't have a great game, but he wasn't awful either. Bell is THAT DUDE. He will make the 53 and we will say bye to D.Wilson. I hate that because DW is my guy, but he hasn't had a good camp. Bell been very steady, when he tackles or hits ya, you drop. Israel M had a great game and decent camp. I think he might be trade bait. We are deep at safety.

he had 15 starts in NCAA. Or something like that.

That ‘21 draft has some bad picks.

Never did get the ‘defensive draft’, especially when the OL needs help.

Of course, all of this is because of Nolan and the 2020 defensive collapse.

dont mention Nolan to big Mike. He won’t answer.

Gonna be tuff. Not so sure we can keep both. Who ya cutting on the dline then? If we keep both, are you ready to cut like 2 players across the dline? I am not.

Ben will be a practice squader. Early in the year we will see McGovern start at LG. We will ease Tyler in later. Tyler may well be a temporary answer at swing. Cuts are going to be very tuff.

I’m not a huge Wilson guy but he makes plays. Bell ain’t starting but at this point I’d keep him over a ridgeway or Basham but there’s potential there as well so you’re right it would be tough

You had me until Bell replacing Wilson
Just food for thought.
The price tag difference between D.Wilson and M.Hooker, may lead to Hooker being cut. Especially since, a certain someone, just found out the cap is a real thing.

The PI on a pass well short of the first down marker was dumb and Wright obviously needs to play better but his coverage has been pretty good. He needs to get his hands up and make a play (we saw this last year from him too) but I don’t get the way people are acting like he doesn’t even belong on the field. Plus he is a good STs player. I think he makes the 53.

Both Bland and Joseph lost their man on a crossing pattern by about 5 yards for big plays and Bland also trailed his guy on a simple out by about the same amount twice. The completion behind Joseph down the left defensive sideline was unclear if he or the safety had the deep sideline. I think it was the safety the way Joseph settled into his stance but not sure.

I don't want to overreact to one game. But I do see a couple of trends emerging.

Ball is still learning. He messes up too much right now but it is his first game experience since being drafted. I would not give up on him just yet. His run blocking is better than his pass protection. Let's see if he shows any improvement as the season progresses.

Farniok is better than Biadasz. Every game he plays I watch him and he just looks like he is better at moving people off the LOS when he plays. Perhaps some of the nuances of playing Center he has not mastered yet, but just in terms of pure blocking, I think he is better. Not great, but better than Biadasz. He looks bigger, stronger and more active than Biadasz.

The young guys are going to make mistakes. Up one week, down another. Bland looked good last week, not so good this week. He does play with excitement which is a big plus but he needs time too. The starting CBs are Diggs, Lewis and Brown and I think the Cowboys have solid backups in Joseph and Bland if anyone gets hurt. The more experience these two get in preseason the better players they will become. I think Wright is okay in the right defensive scheme. But yeah, not a 3rd round pick.

The Cowboys have some talent at Safety for a change. This will make a big difference against the run.

Jabril Cox is another player who looks really good on one play then misses on another. I think he is up more than down and he will be a good player as he gains experience. He has a lot of speed.

I like where the Cowboys DTs are this year. It looks like they have some talent inside for a change. Bohanna looks like he has made a big leap forward this season. Hill just needs to stay healthy. I think their starting defense, once they are all on the field is going to be pretty good.

The Cowboys look like they might have a pretty good running game this year. I don't know what they will look like against the Eagles DL, or the Washington DL but they look pretty good against the two scrub squads they played the last two weeks.

The Cowboys WRs look really average to me. I know there is no CeeDee, but some of these guys are going to be playing week 1 against NFL starters and they look pretty average against scrubs so it does concern me. Of course Rush is not Dak.

#1 notable thing thru two weeks IMO is that Ball is not good enough to be a swing tackle for us right now

We’re better off dumping Wright and Joseph now; I’d rather watch two other guys off the street give it a go. Those two don’t have IT

Aside from Turpin's pyrotechnics Hill's play was the highlight of the game for me.. If for no other reason than so many on this board are rooting for him to fail apparently because they hate Rod Marinelli that much. I know people will hone in on the hat trick play (sack, forced fumble, fumble recovery) I was at least as impressed at his refusal to be moved out of the hole on run plays when doubled and his consistently beating his man when singled. Nashon Wright had another rough outing but it was good to see Joseph make a few nice plays. That kid may have turned the corner...

Stupid post as usual
No Cowboys fan is rooting for a Cowboys player to fail
If Hill makes a significant impact this year that will be great but defense is about consistent effort which has been absent from his play to date

Other than the obvious in #2 and #24 I thought #52 Tufua and #94 Bronson had decent games. I'm not too fond of #25 and #75 needs to go. Grier should win the back up qb spot. Kicking was not too bad either.

1) Penalties almost knocked in half (8)

2) Dallas has yet to promote Tyler Smith to the starting job at left guard. But, again, it’s only a matter of time.

3) Nahshon Wright has had strong off season & start to training camp. But Wright has struggled in games. He had an interference penalty & gave up a number of big plays against the Broncos last week. It was more of the same against the Chargers w/the biggest disappointment being an interference flag on 3rd & 17 in the second quarter on a pass that was 3 yards short of the first down.

4) Jalen Tolbert continues to experience growing pains at receiver. He had a crucial drop in the preseason opener against the Broncos. Last night, he didn’t come up w/a contested catch in the first quarter. And he nullified a TD catch from Rush in the second quarter when he didn’t get both feet in bounds in the back of the end zone. He had plenty of room to make the play.

5) One player who has been noticeable since the start of camp & who is going to make the cuts at DT tougher than expected is Trysten Hill. He's clearly healthy & more comfortable than he’s ever been. And it’s showing up in practice and games. He had a sack & forced fumble that led to a TD in the second quarter last night.

I really like Furgeson. He can block and he can get open and catch the ball. Him and Shultz are going to be a great TE duo moving forward.

I would like to see a little more fire out of Tolbert. HE is very smooth, but not a lot of fire.

I am still not overly impressed with Sam Williams. Maybe I just expected to see more.

Hill I believe has made the team. He is doing well at DT. Bohanna as well.
