8 Fast Food Restaurants That Have Died Off

Used to love Shakey's. A&Ws seem to be falling off the map, too (nothing more tasty than ice cold A&W Root Beer right from the tap. Not that crap from a carbonated soda station. Smoothest, creamiest, RB on the planet).

Taco John's
Taco Time
Peaches
Red Barn
Godfather's Pizza

Ugh The list goes on and on.

Still quite a few Taco Time's in the Pacific NW and I would love to come across a Godfathers pizza! Also, A&W is popular in Cali but they are partnered with KFC usually :(

LOL!

I get it... But McD's... Well the chain is iconic. Gotta hand it to Ray Kroc for developing the franchise system behind it.

I work with business owners all the time that have 4-year/6-year degrees and run businesses that are doing less than a mill and have all sorts of business issues– including the owner being scared to death to take any time off.

And here you have McD's, each typically run by teenagers and the elderly– And doing a couple mill per year.

As a business guy I applaud that.

As far as the food goes, when you combine price with taste, expectations and consistency– My gosh McD's is tough to beat. Can I get a better burger? You bet! But I'm going to pay more for it... Sometimes a lot more. And many time the burgers at the other chains "change".

Not at McD's. It's the same tasting burger as what I had as a kid in late 60's.

Give me a couple cheeseburgers and fries... And I'm a happy camper and I've spent what? I dunno... $4.

And the fries?

No one has beaten McD's fries IMO.

And let me say I think the Egg McMuffin is the perfect breakfast sandwich... Hand's down.

So while McD's had taken their lumps over the years–There's a lot of redeeming things about the chain and its food.

Filet O Fish (4 at a time)..... That's all.

A few years ago I read what those are made of. While I can't recite the exact things (proper usage of the word here) off the top of my head I know I will never eat one again.

I saw the same thing with their chicken nuggets and will never eat those again either.

I hate their burgers, but I couldnt agree more with the ice, I wish you could find it more often.....seems like some gas stations and Sonic are the only places you can find that style......Ive always been someone who crunches on their ice in drinks, and as im gettin a tad older I could definitely use a helluva lot more sonic style ice lol.....its amazing my poor teeth are still intact haha

Zaxbys has the same ice if you run across them....

Can't imagine why Sambo's closed......

Speaking of disappearing....

McDonald is about to take Kroc's idea of efficiency to the next level and replace $15/hr wannabe's with machines. When they do, the other chains will follow suit. There's gonna be a whole bunch of people wondering what the heck happened when they don't have jobs anymore. Not to mention all of the subsequent generation of kids who won't have the opportunity to learn basic job skills when that entire group of entry level positions disappear.

Automation was coming whether the pay was $1/hr or $100/hr.

Haven't you ever seen a square fish?

They are still around, 13 stores in Texas, in seemingly random places. Like Falfurrias.

Yep, we have one here but it's in a truck stop. Not really a full restaurant and definitely not as good as the used to be.

Used to love Godfather's. I grew up in Wyoming and there were two in the city that I lived in. All of the places I mentioned in my post were from when I lived in Wyoming. I think the only A&W left in Wyoming is in Wheatland and it's at a Sinclair gas station paired with a Chester's Chicken.

I live in AZ, now and there's an A&W 45 miles away in Holbrook at a gas station. Haven't seen a Godfather's in close to 20+ years.

:(

talkin bout pizza places, I miss Mr. Gattis...thankfully though, here in Denton, one of em became a Double Dave's pizza, which is pretty dang good as well.....
