talkin bout pizza places, I miss Mr. Gattis...thankfully though, here in Denton, one of em became a Double Dave's pizza, which is pretty dang good as well.....

I used to eat at me gattis all the time as a kid, I remember their crust had this strange, almost beer type flavor to it. I don't know if it was just the local franchise or not.

I can honestly say I only ate at one of those - Sambo's.

Most all of these were regional so a lot of people here don't recognize them save Burger Chef and Sambo's...

Burger Chef sold to Hardee's and Sambo's sold out mostly to Denny's...

We still have a Wimpy's in downtown Dayton. I was about to post about Hardee's/Carl's Jr. eating up Burger Chef in the early 80's, I believe(having worked at a Hardee's in my youth). I remember most of those places you mentioned as well having feasted a time or two at their respective tables.

The Burger Chef in my town turned into a Pleasers. I think several of them did in fact. At least in Indiana. They may all be closed now. The last years of the one in my town was responsible for a few hepatitis incidents. I quit eating there.

I miss Grandy's for some odd reason.........

LOL, decided to look it up and found out it is still around. Haven't seen one in 20 years.
Oh man grandys is great. Theres one in arlington on cooper, irving on beltline, and one in carrollton. The secret is some of the stores offer all you can eat livers and gizzards but it isnt advertised.

LOL!

I get it... But McD's... Well the chain is iconic. Gotta hand it to Ray Kroc for developing the franchise system behind it.

I work with business owners all the time that have 4-year/6-year degrees and run businesses that are doing less than a mill and have all sorts of business issues– including the owner being scared to death to take any time off.

And here you have McD's, each typically run by teenagers and the elderly– And doing a couple mill per year.

As a business guy I applaud that.

As far as the food goes, when you combine price with taste, expectations and consistency– My gosh McD's is tough to beat. Can I get a better burger? You bet! But I'm going to pay more for it... Sometimes a lot more. And many time the burgers at the other chains "change".

Not at McD's. It's the same tasting burger as what I had as a kid in late 60's.

Give me a couple cheeseburgers and fries... And I'm a happy camper and I've spent what? I dunno... $4.

And the fries?

No one has beaten McD's fries IMO.

And let me say I think the Egg McMuffin is the perfect breakfast sandwich... Hand's down.

So while McD's had taken their lumps over the years–There's a lot of redeeming things about the chain and its food.

The fries were and still are the best!

As a kid I would buy McDonald's fries and Burger King bacon cheeseburger lol

Check this out. The real $$$ behind McDonald's!

lol, I always say a burger and spicy ketchup from Whataburger, fries from McDonald's, a frosty from Wendy's and a chicken sandwich from BK is the best fast food meal one could have....

Don't have any Whataburger's anywhere close to here (which keeps them from my "All-time" list), but I'm in line with your other choices... Frosty's? A#1. And you're spot on about BK's chicken sandwich... highly underrated.

The only one I remember is Burger Chef. No big loss. They weren't that great. Here in Nebraska I've noticed there's no Jack in the Box. At one point they were out of Colorado also thanks to an ecoli scandal. I'm not sure if they're back there or not.

mine would be a burger from Sonic or Steak and Shake, fries from either McDs (hot and fresh only) or from Zaxbys, Frosty from Wendys, and Soda from Sonic.

Had a Luthers, Bennigans and Steak and Ale. Not sure what happened to Luthers, it was ok bbq. The building it was in has been about 4 bbq joints since.
Remember when Bennigans had that deal if you don't get your food in 12 minutes it was free?ha. Seemed like the beginning of the end for them.

whenever I see a sign on a restaurant that Kids Eat Free on (name a day) I know it is the beginning of the end and will be out of business within the year.

Used to love Shakey's. A&Ws seem to be falling off the map, too (nothing more tasty than ice cold A&W Root Beer right from the tap. Not that crap from a carbonated soda station. Smoothest, creamiest, RB on the planet).

Taco John's
Taco Time
Peaches
Red Barn
Godfather's Pizza

Ugh The list goes on and on.

We've still got quite a few Taco Times up here in Seattle. As a matter of fact, they're still opening new ones. For fast food "Mexican", it's pretty tasty. Just the thought is making me hungry for a chicken crisp burrito.

Taco John's is still around in small pockets of the country.

I'm not sure on the others.

Both Taco Johns and Godfathers Pizza are still big and going strong were I live. I would have to wonder if alot of these places that we think have died off just pulled back into the region they got there start in
