It sucks, so it's easy to be in the top echelon, but that doesn't mean championship worthy.

This Cowboys team would be 8-8 a decade ago.

Exactly, and that's how the majority of owners want it. The salary cap and free agency rules were installed to prevent a "dynasty" like the 9'ers of the 80's or Cowboys of the 90's. Any team in any given year can win, including small market teams. Owners cannot buy their way into the playoffs anymore. The two SB teams from last year didn't even make the playoffs, and next year might be the same. It could be Cincy vs Tampa Bay.

If Dak turns out to be one of the top elite QB's in the NFL like the 3 or 4 we watched yesterday then I'd expect the Cowboys to be a regular fixture in the playoffs and possibly break thru one year if the stars align well or other intangible factors like other great teams or players having an off year or injury , etc,

But if we're waiting on a top defense to carry him like we're Romo to a championship then we will most likely be chasing dreams again.

The Cap simply doesn't allow for greatness on both sides of the ball. It allows for a great QB , to be good to great on one side of the ball and average to above average on the other .

Three key areas. Must have a great QB, protect him and put pressure on their elite QB. Anyone of those lacking could cost you. The other parts are interchangeable,

meaningless apparently ;)
He's just upset about the teams being filled with millennials or some such. Everything back in the day was better. When men were men. When helmets were optional. When Bobby Boucher showed up at halftime and the Mud Dogs won the Bourbon Bowl. The good ol days.

Seriously though, that's the agenda he's got.

I was choked we lost to GB of course but I have learned with both the Cowboys and my ultimate favourite team, Montreal Canadiens (both of whom haven't won a championship since the 1990s) that if I keep getting all hung up on the fact our glory is old, it ruins watching today. I had more fun watching the team this year than in a long time. It was a total surprise. Losing to Green Bay does not detract from the win in GB, Pitt, hammering the Eagles in OT after being down all game, giving it to the Commanders on US Thanksgiving etc

Watching sports is a way to forget about life for a few hours. Winning is gravy.

The two most celebrated wins from this season were probably Green Bay and Pittsburgh.

Both got absolutely steamrolled yesterday. The NFL is horrible right now. Very little quality.

Let's not kid ourselves, there's a lot of work to be done.
30 teams in the NFL are saying this right now - "There's a lot of work to be done"

I agree that Atlanta would have probably beat us. 19 out of 20 times is of course an opinion that's very frustrated from our loss.

I'd of expected a similar shootout as we had with Green Bay.

I think it's time for the argument to be made ; with our defense is our offense prepared for these shootouts with these prolific QB you face in the playoffs??

Our dominating running game of course works well during the regular season for the most part against lesser or average teams and QB's, disguising our defense . But it's going to struggle in playoffs without a top defense to limit the points of our opponent.

If we have to light it up for 40 points we are going to struggle to win with our defense.

It falls back on the my premise of the 3 key areas for success in the Cap era . Anything lesser in any of these areas are a grave concern in the playoffs .

The Falcons also managed to lose to both Tampa Bay - a team the Cowboys beat - and San Diego - who managed to be the Browns' only victory.

There's nobody we 'couldn't possibly' beat.

Really, that's everybody in the NFL right?

Cleveland beat San Diego. San Diego beat Atlanta. Atlanta will beat NE....

ergo Cleveland is the most dangerous team in the NFL...

Someone understands this!

I hear people yelling for a pass rush all the time.. Meanwhile Eli takes 2 steps back and releases over and over and over and over.

We do need pass rushers but we need DB's that can press as well and stop all of these short passes from happening.

You can't get to the QB if you give WR's free release and they are only trying to get a few yards on a play.

This is as much about scheme and coaching as the players, isn't it?

And yet this era has produced the most dominant dynasty ever.

Team Offense (DVOA)

Atlanta: 1st
Dallas: 3rd

Team Defense (DVOA)

Dallas: 17th
Atlanta: 27th

Given this backdrop you really think the Cowboys lose 19 of 20 games? Hyperbole much?

Dallas would have been a home favorite against the Falcons. Doesn't mean we win. Think it's ridiculous to think we lose 19 of 20.
OP has been on this tangent all season. Hilarious when contrasted to his fear the star stream of consciousness posts from the last two offseasons. Tldr of OP, Tony Romo should be the QB.

Let's not overreact, either. Pittsburgh and Green Bay were playing their third playoff games and second on the road. There's a reason why teams making a SB run in that fashion is rare - it's very difficult. Those two games don't suddenly erase everything the Cowboys did this season. Dallas exceeded all reasonable expectations and by all appearances have found their next QB. 13 wins were no accident, either.

Address weaknesses and come back next season. Pittsburgh and Green Bay will do that as well.
