That's my perception of events as well. IIRC, the Commanders were in the need of a major rebuilding effort and had the misfortune of playing in a very tough NFC East. He helped turn around Terry Allen's an career and developed Stephen Davis. He got the most out of journeyman QBs like Gus Frerotte and Brad Johnson (who had a career year in 1999). He was awesome that year. Washington was being hailed as a potential championship contender (they were SB favorites going in to 2000) However, signing over the hill guys like Jeff George, Mark Carrier, etc really damaged the team's hopes. Even in 2000 they started 6-2 under Johnson. After a couple tough losses to the 13-3 Titans and a fluky loss to the Cardinals, Snyder insisted that George start and the team fell apart from there save a win on Monday Night against the Rams.

I like Phillips or Rivera, with JG working as HC, and Bowles running the D. Bowles sounds like a real sleeper, a guy Parcells actually brought in. You can't question the man's coaching tree.

The head coach, without a doubt, had something to do with a decision at #3 overall - Heath Shuler. Hire Norv, please!

Norv won't have any pull there, Jerry has reverted back to the good old days! Norv will cook the dinner, but the grocery shopping will lie with Scouting.

Skins fan here to give a bid of insight to Norv's time in DC. The three things that come to mind first.

1. Inconsistent, bad play-calling. Skins fans were excited about Norv coming in because of his role guiding the awesome Cowboys offense to 3 Super Bowls. The Hall of Fame talent wasn't there for him, but the play calling was odd, at best. Very frustrating.

2. Undisciplined players and performance. What more can be said here. Training Camp was like recess at elementary school. 4 or 5 false starts every game. Internal fighting and complaining.

3. Awful drafts!

Bottom line is that Norv is a mediocre HC. He's had his chances and has never performed. But, he could do better than Parcells...Who knows?

Norv was the HC not the GM... and do u really want to sit here and say NORV cant call plays? take a look at the 92 NFC championship game....

I'm not sold on Turner. I wish we could get him as OC. He's been successful everywhere he's been as OC.

I fear if he's our coach, then I fear TO will go nuclear.

Jerry should be patient...there are better candidates out there, IMO. Ryan and Rivera come to mind.

If he wants Garrett to be HC, then bite the bullet and do it. If he's afraid of that prospect, then he should've waited.

Oh well, I'll say this....with Jerry, being a Cowboy fan is NEVER dull. He always keeps us on our toes.

You are wrong here. The only reason he has a rep as a good play-caller is because he had a HOF QB, RB, WR, O-line in Dallas. He sucked in WAS, MIA, & OAK

well, we dont suck anywhere near as bad as those teams...he's coming into a pretty good situation (if he doesnt get the job)

also, better go back and look at some of those numbers you say sucked

So if we hire Norv, we added a bright new offensive mind in JG and a offensive guru in Norv, both on offensive side of the ball and we already have Sporano.

What about defensive side? We lost Parcells/Zimmer on defensive side and only Todd Bowles is left to handle the mess

Heath Shuler was a Norv pick. Casserly had been looking at Dilfer before the 1994 draft but when Norv came on board, he had been infatuated by Shuler

Westbrook was a Norv pick over Casserly's choice of Joey Galloway

Those 2 moves set the franchise back years

On top of that, Trent Green was a 3rd stringer for 4 years. Norv's lack of judgement with talent kept the best QB that was on the roster sitting on the bench until it was time for him to leave
