How does one determine who has the best system in the world?

Seems pretty subjective to me. Especially when you consider many western European states have similar systems as we do.

Seems like most of this thread is subjective.

There has been alot of opinions thrown around here. I don't know you so I can not even Begin to claim you are a certain way. You state you have had bad experiences with the police. And that may very well be. But, my question to you would be what was your demeanor when you were initially approached? My guess is your going to say you were completely respectfully and I can not dispute that. However, from MY personal experience a persons demeanor/attitude goes a long way in determining the officers actions.

BENSON HIRES LAWYER TO FIGHT CHARGES

Posted by Michael David Smith on May 8, 2008, 2:04 p.m.

Bears running back Cedric Benson, who says he was mistreated by officers who pepper sprayed him during a weekend boating excursion, has hired a new lawyer as he prepares to fight charges of boating while intoxicated and resisting arrest, the Austin American-Statesman is reporting.

“I do not believe from what I’ve been told that Cedric was intoxicated,” lawyer Sam Bassett said. “I do not believe he was aggressive toward an officer to warrant being pepper sprayed.”

Meanwhile, the paper reports that former Texas linebacker Aaron Harris also was on Benson’s boat, and that Harris said he took pictures of Benson while he was undergoing a field sobriety test and being arrested, pictures that he plans to give to Benson’s lawyer.

Harris is the fiancé of Elizabeth Cartwright, another passenger on the boat, who told the Chicago Tribune that Benson wasn’t drunk and was mistreated by police.

On the night in question, Cartwright says she called her father and told him “to call 911 and tell them my black friend is getting beat up by cops,” possibly suggesting that Cartwright believed the police targeted Benson because he is black. The Lower Colorado River Authority, which made the arrest, says that in the last five years, its officers have made 457 arrests on the lake, and that 428 of the people arrested were white and 10 were black.

The American-Statesman reports that Bassett will represent Benson in a preliminary hearing on May 19 in front of a Travis County administrative judge

Try to stay on topic, WL...

Why would the officers allow Harris to take pictures of it? I don't know if that would be breaking a law (I figure not) but it seems a little weird that while they're administering this test, they let Harris just stand there snapping pictures.

Also, maybe he's just hoping there's something on the pictures that would help. You know, like a "it can't hurt to try" situation.

that is wierd also because i know when i got arresteed my friend tried to take pictures of it and they told them to back up and put the camera away.

How does this prove they weren't singling out Benson? I go boating now and then and the % of Whites out boating is far higher than other demographics. Heck even when I go to a lake south of here and close to the border of Mexico I see more Whites than Hispanics in boats out on the lake.

it's more concrete than the evidence that he's black, so he must have been racially profiled

although it's not that far-fetched, I remember when I went to court, the only people charged w/ driving w/o a license were African-AMerican and Hispanic

I'm 34 now, but I was pulled over a lot by cops when I was between the ages of 16 and about 25. Most of the times cops say people have a bad attitude when they are pulled over. But people don't understand that after getting pulled over and over again for the same bogus reason is why some people act this way. At the time i was in the Navy, I dressed like most teenagers did and had a car with chrome rims and some tint on the windows. The cops would pull me and give me some lame reason why(while most of the time they would call for back up). They would ask to search my car and run my license hoping to find something. Then they would let me go and tell my to have a good day. After a couple of times anybody would get upset being pulled when you know you have done nothing wrong.

And just what were those bogus reasons? Are you sure they actually called for back up. I mean did you hear them call. Or could it be possible another unit decided to be nosey....lol Happens all the time.
