Whites may/may not be beaten up, but I know they take it up the proverbial "butt" sometimes too.

A movie I am currently watching, "The Thin Blue Line" comes to mind.

One can get into all kinds of psychological discussions on profiling.

But I am not foolish enough to think that only my folks (blacks) get railroaded.

What Book of Proverbs are you reading?

I have lived in East Texas for a large part of my life and I rarely seen this to be an issue...

I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I have always had a great relationship with all races in East Texas as have my friends/family...

Don't indict an entire state for an incident that we don't even know the true events of at this point...

I traveled the country extensively on business for ten years and I found the most bigoted part of the country to be the Northeast...

Every city in every state has bigots of all races/creeds...

That last part is on the money, including the northeast (I'd say that worldwide racism of all kinds is pervasive, especially towards blacks), but let's accept a few truths without subterfuge...Excessive force and cops go together like kibble & bits...Blacks getting targetted more than whites is a reality, not an opinion...And like it or not, Texas has earned that reputation which isn't to say all Texans are racist...Just sayin'

Just once in a blue moon, I'm curious what the reaction would be to seeing some famous white celebrity get pepper sprayed and beaten by black cops with no video footage...What would be the prevailing 'opinion' on what went down...Yet, it happens the other way around farrrrrr too often and public opinion seems to routinely side with the police....Just sayin'

Why does your scenerio have to include black cops. Do we know the cops in this case are all white? I would bet if a white CELEBRITY got beat it would have as much press as this. A better question would be if your every day white citizen was beatin badly by cops would there be the same outrage.

I've been out on the lake and have never been pulled over for a safety check. Granted I do not hang out in Devil's Cove. It would not surprise me if several boats that regularly anchor in Devil's Cove during the weekend are frequently pulled over for safety checks. It is similar to cops hanging out and closely monitoring the people leaving the very busy, popular bars more than the people leaving the small dive bar around the corner.
Thats called entrapment, and thats illegal.

For the record, most of the cops I have had dealings with are very cool. One time I got busted for doing donuts in the school parking lot. The cop asked me how many tickets I wanted. I replied, "none if you are feeling charitable." He laughed and told me not to do it again.

It is very rare from my experience for a Cop to be rude. Does it happen? Sure. I think many times it might be because of where they are when something happens. A bad area can make them a lot more cautious. I know it would me.

If this story is true and what people are saying about Devil's Cove is true then I can understand to a degree why the Cops were cautious. It just has a bad juju feel to the whole thing though as more info comes out. I'm not saying Benson is 100% innocent of anything, nor am I saying he's guilty. But there's no doubt in my mind that there is reason for skepticism of the Cops in equal proportion to skepticism of Benson. In this case anyway.

If I would have been doing donuts in a car i would have gotten tickets and or arrestted for reckless driving and blah blah blah. Cowboys are very rude and very cocky and have a very short fuse.

Why didn't she just call 911?

Maybe because the people that would be sent out were the actual offenders?

None of us knows what happened on the lake that day, but I would wonder who I should call if the police were kicking my arse. I might be better of calling the local news

3) Proverbial - "Widely referred to, as if the subject of a proverb; famous"

Im sure most on this board are familiar with the famous but trite and commonplace saying, "Taking it up the butt".

I don't think it matters between black and white cops they are all the same cops first and believe they are above the law because they enforce the law. I mean Sean Bell was shot 50+ times by cops and 2 of them where black so it does happen. The only reason you here about this case is because benson is a pro football player. If not it won't be worth the time writing the article. However if a white kid from college lets say and he's from upper middle class and black cops beat him you would here about it.

Ive gotten to where I dont trust any police as far as I could throw them. When I was 19, I bought a black 98 Mustang GT, I owned if for 6 months and was pulled over 23 times and not given a single ticket. Always some lame excuse like "you didnt use your turn signal", which is ********, who wouldnt use thier turn signal with a cop following them? The cop would always check to make sure I had insurance, run my drivers liscense and let me go. I sold the car, bought a little 97 Jetta, been driving it for 7 years now and havent been pulled over one time. This was bad enough and got me weary of the cops.

Then, this little incident happened about 3 weeks ago. Im currently a bartender at a pretty popular bar on Lake Granbury. The other night I was walking to my car after a very long shift, when a cop in the parking lot pulls up rolls down his window and says "Hey boy, you walking to your car there after a night of drinking?". To which I respsonded "no, Im walking to my car after working a 14 and a half hour shift, and Id like to get home without being harrased by the police". Long story short, he pulled me over as soon as I got in my car, and I was "detained" almost 2 hours and given every test under the sun. He was pissed cause I didnt let him search my car (there was nothing in there anyway, I dont do anything), and repeatedly asked me where I kept my shrooms. Ive never done a shroom in my life. Stuff like this is why I dont completely believe the police report on this incident.

How much do you sell your shrooms for? I'd like to order a couple dozen

I know enough about police, and have been harrassed by the police enough times to know, that they can make up whatever reason they want to pull you over. I was pulled over by a police officer because he said my tail light was "flickering a little". I havent had any problems with my tail light still. Does that seem legitimate?

So ALL cops think they are above the law? Thanks for telling me what myself and my fellow officers think.

I applaud the woman for coming forth.

We would not want Benson's sterling rep "tainted" for this arrest.

Btw: I am the last one to be defending law enforcement. Racial profiling is real. And the way to stop many is to subjectively say the car/boat was being driven navigated in a suspicious way, blah-blah-blah.
Having said that, why did not Benson, after his second or third stop, complain?

On the other hand, behavior has a lot to do with being stopped. If you act in a way that invites attention, you might be temping fate. Especially if you are the wrong color.

I don't see why people make fun of the woman in the article for saying "my black friend". What was she supposed to say, "my african american friend"? And don't say "my friend" because the color of the victims skin was highly relevant in this case.

I'm with Ashton Kutcher.

Who the hell has driven a boat sober?

It is the easiest thing in the world to drive and I have done it after downing 18 beers or more with no problem.

"Safety check"

Whatever.

True, but I would have to disagree.

Now, there is no doubt that if a white person with a middle to upper class background were beaten, you would hear about it.

However, if a poor black guy of obscurity was beaten by white cops, there is no doubt in my mind you would hear about it.

The great travesty and hypocracy is that if it is a poor black person beaten by black cops, guys like Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton would be silent. They could care less about black/black crime.
