I wonder if she always uses an adjective to describe her friends.

My Jewish and American Indians friends always wonder about that sort of description.

I applaud the woman for coming forth.

We would not want Benson's sterling rep "tainted" for this arrest.

Btw: I am the last one to be defending law enforcement. Racial profiling is real. And the way to stop many is to subjectively say the car/boat was being driven navigated in a suspicious way, blah-blah-blah.
Having said that, why did not Benson, after his second or third stop, complain?

On the other hand, behavior has a lot to do with being stopped. If you act in a way that invites attention, you might be temping fate. Especially if you are the wrong color.

Based purely on my own experience,

In some circumstances, cop will look to watch the back of their own and sometimes complaints don't go very far. Now obviously variables such as degree of the complaint, the fortitude of the officers/department the complaint is being filed etc etc comes into play, but in some circumstances cops will seek to protect "their own".

Also, just looking at things from Benson's side and playing Devil's Advocate, he might not have filed a complaint because in the cases prior, he wasn't actually pepper sprayed or harmed in some other way.

Agreed. It ist just hard for me to believe that the police would wilfully misuse its law enforcement power in front of sooooo many witnesses.

I really would love to see all of these pictures the girl says her fiancee took during the incident.

I guess it could happen. Seems really stupid if they did this in front of everyone on the boat though.

Ill reserve judgement for now until all of the facts are out about this.

I can't speak for other agencies. But I can say without a doubt if a complaint is filed with this current administration it is taken seriously and investigated without bias.

I've known several cops (Male, female and all white) over the years, good and bad...Just like in any profession or walk of life...And not one of the police officers I've known over the years would even remotely suggest that racism in law enforcement ISN'T pervasive (Doesn't mean they ALL are)...But power, well you know the rest....Probably a reason why infidelity is so rampant in the police force, as well...A lot of power issues at play in law enforcement...Some scary scary stories that are real and go on everyday with A LOT of police.

And the reality is that blacks are targetted more than any other sector of society...Prison alone will tell you that story.

I have to agree w/ him. Many in this thread want you to believe that.

Many black posters? I am Red and I have never been harrassed like some are saying.

I have also had more run ins w/ the law than probably most of you. :D

I should be harrassed more but Im not.

That may be true, but one cannot deny that cops along with other tight knit professions are vulnerable to the "protect their own" mentality.

Whats really strange is there is a case I saw on fox news this morning of several officers in Philadelphia pulling some robbery suspects of a vehicle and literally beating the crap out of them. No one has even mentioned that here. And it was just a small blurb on Fox news. The beating was far worse than the Rodney King beating. What I saw on the tape this morning IS police brutality. Pepper Spraying someone for non-compliance is not.

Your comment was not objective in any fashion.

Please forgive me for providing an opinion about your statement.

I mean..., this is a messageboard, gawd forbid we actually have people talking to each other.

I saw it.. I didn't want to be the first to mention it.. But the latest is that the guys have been taken off the street.

Spokensman for the Mayor

"At a glance it does appear to be a bit beyond the pale," said Doug Oliver, a spokesman for Mayor Michael Nutter. "Officers are not allowed to operate outside of the law."

"We are not going to prejudge the situation based on the video," he said. "We all saw the video, but none of us was there."

Oliver initially said 15 officers had been taken off the street Wednesday. He later said about 15 officers were at the scene, but that the exact number identified and already off the street was unclear.

"One way or the other, everyone associated with this will be taken off the street," Oliver said. "The officers involved in this incident will be reassigned."
