Because they did a lot of great scouting research on him, traded up multiple spots to draft him. Nine other NFL teams had the chance to get “lucky” with Mahomes but they didn’t think he was that goI’d.

And besides that, their owner also hired a top notch then 39 year old GM named Brett Veach who has built 2 SB winners (probably a a 3rd) , 4 AFC championships, and is 46 years old. He’s made his own luck because he knows what he’s doing.
It only took them 50 years.

Just to be clear…I do not “hate” Jerry Jones or anyone in his family. My frustration with Jerry is totally based on the lack of results he has been getting and his stubborn reluctance to change how he runs this team.

Love how losing is fine because you can find a few other teams that have been worse.

Everyone should enjoy it as they see fit, but it’s pretty clear to me that the plan of Jerry and his kid isnt going to get it done.

But it makes me happy that the Browns stink too. That’s awesome.

I’m worried Stephen will be worse than Jerry….maybe less podcasts and interviews but way less aggressive and twice as cheap. I’ll be in the minority but if I have to hear a few radio spots or interviews from my gm but I know they’ll be aggressive I’ll take that trade off.

We will see what happens, Stephen may just name mcclay or whomever gm
I sincerely hope he makes McClay official GM and allows him to pick the coaches.

I may be crazy…but I have some hope. One of these days the second generation Jones family members may get tired of watching other people hoist Lombardis and decide there’s a better way to do this.
Stephen is lot worse. Cheap. Lazy. If you think it’s bad now just wait.

Unless Dallas signs Mahomes 2.0 no more long QB contracts

I don’t think it’s out of the question that McClay could be GM someday. It isn’t happening as long as JJ is calling the shots. A lot will be discovered in the next decade…good or bad.

To think the Cowboys franchise used to be on the cutting edge, ahead of the curve, trendsetters, leading the pack , proactive and innovators.....teams would copy Dallas if they wanted to become a winning and successful organization. Now they just are middle of the pack, reactive, follow the crowd, archaic, myopic organization that is always bumbling, stumbling, crumbling and can't get out of their own way. Superstars that shined in the biggest of stages and brightest of lights, now they wilt under the pressure of a wild card game, as for big stages and bright lights, not even there yet. Head coaches and players who brought toughness and discipline, instead of excuses and apologies. Owners who wanted championship banners flying instead of cash registers ringing. Yep, not much hope even with Stevie boy. Good Luck to us, we will definitely need it.

Agreed. Tex Schramm was definitely ahead of his time. I loved the results Tex got back in the day, but his radio show was pretty bad, lol. At least he didn’t do post game pressers in the locker room.

If Jerry was just the owner and had always let others handle the football decisions I think most Cowboys fans would like him a lot.

Agreed, but I don’t think the kid is as vindictive as Jerry and won’t threaten to get media people fired for bad mouthing the team, so the pressure may increase, and at that point the drought will be pushing 40 years, so he may be open to bringing in legit help, but he will still be cheap, and probably even more so.

Hey if he hires the best scouting/drafting department in the history of the league they may have a half of a shot at getting into a NFCCG.

Secret sauce.

I don’t think anybody here hates Jerry nor his family. We just can’t stand his administration with the whole organization.

It’s not personal, it’s just completely about the franchise.

Some user said here we would like him more if he steps back and do money and marketing stuff which he happens to be a genius.

We said from Day 1 we’d be tolerant of an owner like Jethro if we had success on the field which we did early and often . I’m not sure those of us from Murchison , Schramm and Landry era would have ever liked him. But we would have accepted winning and appreciated him for hiring the right guys like Jimmy.

Without that early success he’d of been run out of town . And he’s been given a pass for life since while it’s basically gone to crap on the field. What a mess he’s made of Cowboys Football.

If he’d stayed the course with Jimmy and refrained from his insistence on being the face of the franchise meddling and undermining football operations he could have been one of the greatest owners.

His contributions off the field are worthy of his HOF induction while his motives are questionable as they may have been driven in order to maintain revenue if football success was curtailed by him. In other words he had concerns a lack of success on the field could have limited revenue as Tex had warned him. Hence his revolutionary and brilliant revenue streams to kinda put the fix in on revenue which in previous eras was driven mostly by success on the field.

But his ego and selfish passion to be a football celebrity guy wouldn’t allow him to be second fiddle to his HC like most owners. Receiving credit for hiring the right HC wasn’t enough. And ultimately winning wasn’t enough unless he was the man.
