If he had truly wanted/needed to make a change, he would have found a way to afford it. I can't believe for ONE instant that it would be otherwise.

I think that had Jerry found a stadium naming sponsor, he would have fired Wade in a minute.

If Jerry was hurting for $ he would have never given Procter $1.5 mil +. He just paid over $1 bil for a stadium so a couple mil to hire and fire a coach is chump change for him. In the remote possibilty that he was having some cash flow problems, I'm sure some of his mega rich cowboy fan friend's like Price Bandar bin Sultan would give him a hand if needed.

its only a legit question to the ignorant and uninformed. Its been gone over ad nauseum about Jerruh despite the economy being in good financial shape. And he has NEVER hesitated to spend money when he thought it mattered. So no one who has paid any attention to things the last year would consider that a legit question.

Jerry would have to pay Wade's salary plus whomever he brought in this year. That was the point.

Jerry has done everything on the cheap this year - shed tons of salary and gone for K-mart priced FA's and draft picks. Not a coincidence, IMO.

What a bewildering perception. Uhh, T.O. wasn't solely a financial decision. He was a disruption decision as well. We are finding out what the rest of our receivers are made of and by the way we did pay a hefty price to land Roy Williams. Canty was truly not worth the money to retain him. We went and got Olshansky and he wasn't bargain basement. Keith Brooking is a well paid veteran who replaced Zach Thomas. Brooking nor Olshansky are playing like K-Mart products.

If anything Jerry gets criticized by a number of fans for paying too much for players. Also we didn't have a No. 1 draft pick this year. Jerry wouldn't cut off his nose to spite his face. You don't open up a billion dollar plus stadium and enhance it by cheapening down your team.

How much did Jerry's being leveraged to his teeth in the new stadium (his legacy) really affect the coaching decision?

Could he afford (or was he willing enough) to dump Wade and/or Garrett, still paying them, and hire a Shannahan or Holmgren at 7 million plus per year?

These may be mutually exclusive, but someone raised the point to me yesterday and it may truly fit.

Opinions...

I don't think Jerry is as broke as some are making him out to be. :laugh2:

I think if Jerry feels the need to replace this coaching staff he will do so

Nobody knows what Jones' CF situation is. His auction rate paper on the stadium supposedly reverted to a fairly high fixed rate instrument when auction market dried up. He shed a ton of salary (not talking just cap$'s but actual 2009 salary) and didn't resign solid players that were going to be costly like Canty + Burnett, the FA's that he brought in were fairly cheap 2nd teir players and I'm guessin that the late rounders that we signed in this year's draft probably didn't cost too much. Although he does have to sign Ware (the protracted negotiating process also seems a little un-Jerry like), everything else that he has done in this off season including not eating his fake head coach's salary has been undenyably and uncharacteristically frugal.

For what it's worth, I too think that Jerry will retain Garrett and force some DC of on him next year.

I'm thinking Garrett, but who really knows what will happen.Just too early in the season.Garrett makes sense if his offense maintains a top 10 ranking after 16 games. The defense is another story,do you stay in house or do you bring in another 3-4 guru.If you do outsource for a defensive coordinator, who is available. One thing that I like about Garrett is that he and the Jones family know each other very well, that might bode well for the team.

I know alot of you guys are having wet dreams over Cowher or Holmgren or Gruden or Shanny coming to Dallas, but you guys need to take a cold shower and come to grips with the reality that Garrett is going to be the HC next year.

Just look at the situation. We are the number one rushing team in the entire NFL and barring a monumental collaspe, we should end the year in the top 10 in total offense. This means Garrett is going nowhere, you dont fire your offensive coordinator if you have a top 10 offense, that would be freaking ********.

Now lets look at the defense. We are currently ranked in the bottom 10 in total yards allowed. We were 32 before the Panther game and I think we improved to 26th if I remember correctly. Now we can continue to improve, but it is going to be very hard for those numbers to move significantly higher.

So we have a situation that is developing where the offense is top 10 and the defense is bottom 10. This means Wade is out the door obviously, but what coach is going to be willing to come in here and let Garrett run the offense all by himself??? None, so the obviously answer is to make Garrett the Head Coach and let him hire a 3-4 guy to run the defense. It is really the only logical way for us to get rid of Wade and keep Garrett at the same time.

I agree this post and I don't have a problem with Garrett getting a shot at HC. It's to bad he wasn't given the chance after the Cowboys blew the last 2 games. We could have hired the 49ers HC to run the 'D'. To bad.

Jerry's financial condition had nothing to do with the HC situation for the Dallas Cowboys.

The reason for going on the cheap with FAs and draft picks has nothing to do with Jerry financial situation, but with the salry cap.

If you examine this team.s salary structure, you'll see that a lot of contracts have huge jumps in yearly pay (and thus cap hits) next season.

We may be $11 million under right now, but....
Flo's cap hit jumps up $4 mil in '10
Newman's jumps $8 mil
Barber's increases by $3 mil
Romo's by nearly $8 mil
BIGG's by nealy $4 mil

And we still have Ware to resign.

If a new CBA is reached and 2010 is not uncapped, we could be in a tight salary cap situation!
