A message for Wade Phillips

By dcfanatic, August 14, 2009 2:24 am

Usually I wait to see what Wade says after a game (preseason or regular season) and then determine how I am going to approach my thoughts about his coaching performance.

And I usually wait a good 12 hours before doing so.

But not on this one.

Here's something Wade said after the game tonight, read here.
Phillips showed his frustration when asked whether the Cowboys suffered any significant injuries.

"We didn't really play hard enough to get any injuries," Phillips said.
On one hand I am glad the man didn't try to sugarcoat a very uninspired performance from his backup players.

But on the other I want to know why they didn't play hard?

Your job as the 'head coach' Wade Phillips is to make sure your football team is always prepared and always ready to play hard for sixty minutes when Sunday (you know what I mean) comes around.

So in reality you are dissing yourself here Wade.

This is your team. And if you want to get guys like me off your back then have these guys ready to at least 'play hard enough' next Friday at Cowboys Stadium when the Titans roll into Dallas.

Don't stop there either. Make sure that from here until mid February this football team is prepared and ready to play hard on Sunday!

I can take losing if you gave it your all and you just weren't good enough. But I can't take devoting a huge portion of my life to following a team that is going to half arse it when the lights come on and then have the man in charge of making sure that doesn't happen tell me it did and not say anything.

Get medieval on that arse for once in your damn life Wade Phillips!

Let me preface this by saying I am far from panicing and I do not think that this will be the case by any means. I have high hopes for 2009...

But if this 2009 team comes out flat and uninspired like it did tonight and like it did in 2008, I'm done with the Dallas Cowboys untill Wade Phillips is no longer the coach.

This guy needs to learn how to fire up his players and get them ready to play. He has failed at almost every opportunity he's been given here in Dallas.

Off the top of my head...

06 Indy
07 @ Philly
Last year vs Giants and @Wash

Yet there's too many times where its the complete opposite

Sorry can't blame the coach here. They are pros and if they can't get up and play hard then they deserve to get cut. If Anything that's good that wade is showing some backbone. We need some accountability out there.

To me doesnt seem like a lack of effort it just seems like they arent prepared to play. They are sloppy, make mental mistakes, are out of position etc.

Honestly I have no faith in the Head Coach or the GM.

Why are guys like Proctor, Watkins, Brown and Stanback even on this team? Jerry puts way too much faith in backups developing instead of looking for alternatives. Like BP always said you have to be constantly looking to churn the bottom of you roster. It is the same reason he stuck with Brad Johnson last season and the same reason we are doomed if Flo goes down this year.

I guarantee you won't have to wait long if the Cowboys don't show up in 09'. Wade will be on the first thang smokin out of Dallas. Guaranteed!

The cowboys picked up right where they left off in 2008.

So many areas have problems that I don't even know where to start. The coaches did not prepare this team for the game at all....the players acted like they did not care and performed like nothing matters.

Phillips needs to cut about five guys tomorrow to send a message to the entire team. :(

Your right in that there was a lack of enthusiasm.
But when a child leaves home you can no longer tell him what to do.
If there is no will "in his mind" to do it , forget it.
that is what it looked like to me.
When they took Tony out the whole team mentally said
OK, these qb's are not worth protecting, they aren't any good and I'm not
giving my all for nothing.
Maybe if Tony had been out there and they knew they had a real chance the whole atmosphere would have been different.
I felt that way, just sitting in my chair.
Had I been on the field I doubt I would have felt different mentally.
I think they need a "GOOD" back up qb.
then the rest of the team would feel like the "people in charge" wanted to win a game.

I missed most of the game. I am watching it now and I obviously see a lot of rookies in there now. Is it that they really played uninspired or is it because they are just rookies with their first NFL game action? I actually saw Carpenter make a few plays. What about the rest of the backups that aren't rookies?

So I guess most people just saw the score and figured it was the Cowboys starters?

LOL. It was like the 70-80 guys on the roster. Get a freaking grip. The first team offense dismantled the Raiders on our seconnd drive and then everyone sat down. Everyone breathe.

Exactly. It was because it was the guys that are literally off the street. Man #79 on the roster, know what I mean? Camp bodies.

The problem is that the the starters don't comprise the entire football team. If there are an average number of injuries (read: if about the same amount guys get hurt as last year), this team will be horrible in a hurry and the apologists will have their excuse for yet another underachievement from this team.

Wade really looked lost. Did you notice the camera panning to Wade after the Raydas 2nd and
3rd stringers went up and down the field? Or maybe he knows that this is it for him.

GOOD:
Kitna, Latimore, Mcgee, Hurd, Ball( W/ exception to penalty) looked really good

BAD: Brown, Carpenter, and the O line (Stupid Penalties are gonna kill us if we keep doing this) IS BILL PHOZDERICK ON THIS TEAM?
Also Wade only blitzed a few times never put pressure on the QB. His Defensive play calling was HORRID!!!!!!!!
Oh.... and that dummy that dropped the fair catch....C-Ya!

I can't believe a lot of you are already stepping up to the Kool Aid table. It's preseason. Do you honestly think the game would have ended the way it did if our starters played the entire game? They looked pretty inspired to me. I hope the doom and gloom followers find a rock to crawl under.

I think all of us want to see the Da Boys show some heart and determination:bomb:
I know it's pre-season but we expect more from players who are gonna try to be on America's Team.

Wade just dosen't have that Killer instinct of Landry and Johnson...Parcells well.... (he did but he was just to conservative)

I know from coaching LL baseball this year that you can do everything possible to prepare a team for a game, but once they cross those lines its all up to them. And if they dont perform there is nothing you can do. Its frustrating. And i imagine its easier to motivate 9 -12 yr old kids than it is grown men making millions of dollars win or lose. Especially preseason. I cant put this on Wade.
