I know Courtney Brown was definitely coasting it
I lay 80% of the blame on the dline. I just saw a long clip of several plays. The dline's complete lack of anything exposed everything. On running plays it looked like a telephone pole could have blocked them. There was zero pressure on the QB giving him time to pick them apart. You can't blame a CB in my opinion if he is chasing a WR for 5+ seconds.

Yes, I understand Brown has his own issues, but the root of the problem must be fixed first. It doesn't matter how good your CB is, if you make him cover for more than a couple of seconds, receptions will be made.

But if this 2009 team comes out flat and uninspired like it did tonight and like it did in 2008, I'm done with the Dallas Cowboys untill Wade Phillips is no longer the coach.
I said I would be done with the Cowboys if Jerry Jones ever hired Campo as head coach, the next freaking day he did it.:bang2: I never left. You won't either.

I don't waste my time blaming people for a pre-season game. Dallas got some work in last night they will have 2 a days sat and sun. We made it through the 1st game with no injuries and some things the players need to work on. I know Wade is not the favorite coach of many around here but this is not the 1st time a Dallas team looked uninspired in a pre-season game. Our guys have been going through a lot of 2 a day and many have dead legs right now. To make more out of this than need be is a bit ridicules

This was the first NFL game for many players. IMO, Last night was a success, The Cowboys first team, got some work in against someone other than the Cowboy defense and came away with No new injuries to report. Coach's and the GM got good look at the second and third string players, Dont understand why everyone is bashing these rookies. Its not like a number one draft pick is playing like crap and over 20 of them wont make the final roster. The Majority of them are merely backups/practice squad players at best.

Nothin really new:

McGee: Nothin new, practiced the same way he played
Proctor: still sucks, dont understand why he was at center
Mickens and J. Williams: both rookies looked lost in training camp/showed in the game. They are low draft picks /rookies
Ogletree: I thought looked promising as a return man
Stanbeck: same ol song and dance. get rid of the guy,
Kitna; will be a good back up
Free/McQuinstan: still needs work and looks like they will get it on game day
C. Brown and A. Ball: looked horribable, played like third year practice squad players, Oh they are.

Special Teams: is coming around, Was that a kick off into the endzone! It may be just me, But the cowboys looked small/undersized against the raiders, there big guy just ran all over the place.

I totally disagree! I thought for the first time Wade finally was holding the players accountable...instead of doing the, "It's on me" deal that he's been famous for.

Sooner or later it has to come down to the players, playing. They are in the NFL and if they can't hack it, go to Canada.

If anything I thought that was his best press conference to date. He sounded like a HC. He called out players by name and then said a lot of the were sloppy. The players either watch, or hear about this stuff....and that's a good thing!

Is this the Twilight Zone?

I have to come to Wade's defense here:

Wade also said before the game that he was not happy about the lackluster way the Cowboys handled their practices leading up to the game.

And he said the same thing after the game.

Now, Wade is not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but he KNEW that comments like this would reflect on him. Yet he said them because he felt that maybe it needed to be said.

I respect his candid assessment. Any lack of motivation will come back to him as it did last year.

But give him credit for being honest, please.

I would be more interested to see how the next few practice and pre-season game goes to see what improvements show up.

A team coming out flat in a pre-season game say it ain't so. :lmao:

So I guess most people just saw the score and figured it was the Cowboys starters?

LOL. It was like the 70-80 guys on the roster. Get a freaking grip. The first team offense dismantled the Raiders on our seconnd drive and then everyone sat down. Everyone breathe.

I guess if we would have won 48-31 (remember when we beat the Raiders in preseason with Quincy Carter and then promptly sucked in the regular season), Cowboys posters would be proclaiming playoffs and Super Bowl.

Take a deep breath. Now R-E-L-A-X!

It's the preseason. I couldn't care less if we lost every preseason game. It has absolutely no correlation to what will occur in the regular season.

It's amazing reading these threads. People point to our first string and I read glowing praise for Romo, Bennett, Felix, our back-up QB, etc. They can make an instant positive analysis, even though it's pre-season. Then we look at our back-ups and excuse their poor play because, of course, it's only pre-season. Wearing those rose colored glasses is a beautiful thing.

I don't care if we win or lose in pre-season. But I do care about the product I see on the field and what our back-ups and draft picks bring to the table. Someone asked what do we expect since it's pre-season? Simple, I expect our back-ups to be competitive against their back-ups. Is that too much ask?

The reality, at least for me, is that this team is not built in any way, shape or form to handle or overcome any type of adversity. It's taken on the persona of it's HC who is really just a DC; we have no HC. Now that the heat is on, Wade wants to get tough and be critical of his team's practice habits after he's laid a foundation of complacency for the past 2 years and the results show on the field. I can't think of any other team that has a vacant DC position just because their HC is supposed to be a defensive guru. Even HC's that call their own plays hire D or O coordinators. In any event, I just think it's a telling sign when our back-ups can't seem to compete with another teams back-ups, even guys that have been around for a couple of years.

Part of the problem is this team has not tackled all training camp and that is an adjustment on the body when you have not been doing that all camp.

How can a player play hard when he is adjusting to the the contact they have not had all camp. His body is saying ouch that hurts his mind is saying ignore that. Your body has to be conditioned to do this on a regular basis and our team has not reached that point yet.

This goes back to training camp and how it is being conducted.

I know from coaching LL baseball this year that you can do everything possible to prepare a team for a game, but once they cross those lines its all up to them. And if they dont perform there is nothing you can do. Its frustrating. And i imagine its easier to motivate 9 -12 yr old kids than it is grown men making millions of dollars win or lose. Especially preseason. I cant put this on Wade.

ROTLMAO

:laugh2:

ps - plenty of teams compete & play hard week after week so some coaches are doing things righ. Sadly not jerry's circus but other coaches on other teams with real GMs & real football coaches

lame duck coach, lame drafting, lame team = long year

Sounds like something Parcells' fans should be used to. :D

Seriously, it was the FIRST preseason game. The full offense, defense or ST packages have yet to be installed, forget implemented. The first couple of preseason games are for evaluating INDIVIDUALS, not position groups or strategies.

That said, cutting a player or two right away would bring an edge back to practices. Everyone knows that Willie Reid is not making this team, so why not eject him now and send a message?

I too can appreciate his honesty, but I'd rather give him credit for having his team prepared when they hit the field. ;)

This is unbelievable. Don't you guys know that there is no strategy in preseason, just evaluation? They weren't even doing what they would actually do in a real game. They were experimenting by putting guys in different situations to see how they would fare. And most of them are not starters and won't be any time soon. The first team offense marched 71 yards with every skill player touching the ball at least once on their way to a convincing touchdown. Romo looked good. Felix looked good. Barber looked good. Bennett looked good. Witten looked good. The O Line looked good. Roy showed some of that newfound chemistry with Romo. Crayton looked good on an end around. The defensive starters looked good. What more do you all want?

Dude, you're wasting your breath (or in this case your fingers). Far too many on here that just don't have a clue. Echoing some of the things others with a brain have posted, it's the first preseason game. Our starters played very little; the Raider's first stringers played longer. We were missing our two starting corners; we were playing a LOT of young guys and some are experimenting with new positions; we didn't bring any pressure like we will in a real game; we played very vanilla on offense and defense (like most all preseason games; the Raiders have a new coaching staff and winning this game meant something to them, etc. I could go on and on, but some posters just don't have enough sense to understand no matter how many thoughts are posted on this topic. We lost most all of our preseason games (and looked like crap doing it) during our Super Bowl seasons in the early 90's. The bottom line? Last night's game means squat.

I'm not sweating last night's lost in the least and I agree with just about everything you said. However, I do feel the need to point out that "this aint the early nineties and Jimmy Johnson isn't coaching this team". ;)

I think players in the NFL are thinking injury first then football when it comes to the preseaon..as it gets closer to the season that will pick up. Those that are running around full speed are trying to make the team.
