A mirage in the desert

You have probably seen it in a movie or TV commercial sometime. The desperate wanderer who is lost in the desert is so hungry and thirsty that he begins to see things. Like a mirage of an oasis in the middle of the desert, complete with clear, cool water and food. But sadly, it’s not real. It’s a mirage.

Much like the desperate man in the desert, when your favorite team loses 5 games in a row, many of your best players are hurt and worse, has an 82 year old stubborn moron in charge of everything….it makes you desperate to see things that may not be there.

When I look at this Cowboys team on an improbable two game winning streak, I realize - this is still not a very good football team. It’s a mirage. Don‘t get me wrong. I’ve always said and still believe winning is always good for an NFL team. But it can also be a mirage.

I will never criticize or fault a Cowboys fan who is excited about a Cowboys win or who has hope that this two game winning streak means something in the big picture. But I cannot pretend that I believe this 2024 Cowboys team is somehow a good football team. It’s has just enough talent to be in lower half of mediocre teams. Maybe they finish 7-10 or 8-9. Meh.

The real hope for this team IMO lies in CHANGE, not keeping the same cast of characters in charge doing things the same way for the 30th straight year and us fans somehow seeing a mirage of an oasis. Whatever brings change, I want it. Whatever brings false hope, I’m tired of it.

I hear you Bob. However, I can absolutely see JJ resigning MM if the team finishes strong.

JJ loves the status quo and with all the injuries he has more than enough excuses lined up to let everybody off the hook for one of the worst first halfs of a season in franchise history.

JJ trades on hopium. A strong “we are hanging around the rim” finish is exactly what he is looking for.

Just enough positivity to never have to face the music and make macro-changes.

Way to bring us back down to earth @Bobhaze .
But seriously, I hear you. We beat the giants, not the Chiefs. I am one of those that still gets excited about wins. Just can't help myself. Especially this season, when winning hasn't been the norm. With Cincy up next, gotta enjoy the wins when I can!!
...dont forget they also beat a good Wash team. ..just saying ..;).

Bob, I think the mirage is fans who think a significant change is coming. Let me be clear, change would do us wonders- it’s just not walking through that door. While your feelings of being tired of false hope are valid, I choose to still find it fun to watch my team win games- it beats the alternative.

We all know Jerry needs to step down, that Stephen needs to change ideology, but we should also expect it not to happen anytime soon. I choose to just enjoy the fact that I can turn on the tv for 3 hours and the team isn’t being clobbered 36-10 every week here on out,

Now, I’m just as pissed off about where things stand but I don’t think we need to get on the soapbox

All I saw was a win and my size 15s up on a pillow on my coffee table. Snuggled up with my Cowboys blanket and laughing at the fans that were so pissed off that we won. It was a nice afternoon. I'll worry about Jerry's stupidity and Dak's contract after the season, actually, I won't...since I can't do anything about them, I'll just keep drinking my kool-aid and wearing my rose colored Gargoyles. Salud!

you can't control these things...so?? you just go out and play football week to week the rest of it, worry about in the offseason... no one's delusional about these wins but they still feel good. better than 5 game losing streak.. IMHO. the only people upset about this are the tankers..lmao they are mad about wins and worry about the draft and sorry but real fans players and coaches don't plan to lose nor throw games , it will happen organically soon enough, and we worry about the rest later....we will have a good draft slot regardless but it wont be what the tanker group had in mind..IDC

Nobody with an ounce of common sense believes these last two wins were anything meaningful. They were fun and entertaining. It was nice to get the wins. The games themselves were a complete mess. This is still the same core that will happily quit in the first quarter of a playoff game. It is still the same rotten core of self promoters. But it was better than it has been.

Bob,I feel the same way.
I am so tired of the same ole, same old.
I am afraid if the Cowboys play good and not great, somehow stumble to a winning record, that this will give Jerry just enough justification to run this bunch back next season with Mac in charge.
I would rather the Cowboys crash and burn this season to maybe force some major changes in how they operate.

i'm gonna enjoy this ride.
i'm too old...and these seasons are too short.
i control nothing about the f/o dynamic.
so...i root like hell for our boys...who knows...maybe they pull off some magic.
whoever the hc will be...big mc or somebody else...i hope they can "figure around" the gm.
its the only way.
go☆cowboys.

I agree with this philosophy but I am no longer capable of just blindly supporting the players. They only look out for themselves now, as they should, but with that individualism comes judgements and criticism. If the players choose themselves over the team I will call them out on it.

Or I can see that too Hawk. Which if it happens will be like a sequel to the GB playoff loss again. IMO, we’ve gone as far we can go with Big Mac who is a good HC but any coach in Big D has to operate with one hand tied behind his back and a giant albatross around his neck.

Bringing Mac back is the insanity of doing the same things and expecting different outcomes than we’ve had the last three decades.

Jerry talk of keeping MM signals to everyone he is not looking for a SB rather he wants just enough interest to keep the cash cow running.

Remember the NFL is registered as an entertainment company. You can bet Jerry understands this first and foremost.

Do you mean the Washington team that is 7-5 with wins against the Giants x 2, Bengals, Cardinals, Browns, Bears, and Panthers but lost to the Eagles, Bucs, Steelers, Ravens, and Cowboys and is currently on a 3-game skid? The Commanders are as big of a mirage as the Cowboys are in my opinion. They've just had an easier schedule up to this point.

That's what I have come around to as well. My voice doesn't matter. Nothing is gonna change. I'm tired of root for losing and a high pick. Whether its MM or someone new, we won't win without a new GM.

So I just want to sit back and enjoy the game on the holidays with my son. It was a great time the last two weeks. Hoping for more to come.
