I too believe the problems are "fixable", but there isn't much time. After this Oakland game on Thanksgiving, we go into a brutal December. If problems do not get resolved on the offensive side in that game, things could spiral out of control.

Call me a pessimist, but if this team is scoring less than 20 points per game going into December and they start to lose some close games, all the pundits will again begin talking about the December collapse.

One thing that I know about this team is that they don't seem to be mentally strong. They seem to have a fragile psyche. I just have a bad feeling that if they start to drop games and can't score in December, they're going to start thinking "here we go again".

The bright spot, as you said, is the defense. I'd like to see more takeaways too, but IMHO this is a championship caliber defense. If this offense can just get back to its aggressive, big-play personality they might be playing in that game. If not, they might not even make the playoffs.
I am going to talk about the December collapses anyway. Until we are over them, they are relevant. Unlike some I don't think they are relevant until December arrives though.

Jerry running Dan Reeves off is looking like a MAJOR mistake right about now.

I was with you right up to this point. Do you have some proof Jerry Jones ran off Dan Reeves? Are you a personal friend of his and he shared some secrets with you that have not been made public?

I wish Reeves was our coach right now so do not misunderstand, but to say Jerry ran off a person seems over dramatic and a bit like a hater. I have not read any definitive reason why Reeves is not with the team. Lots of speculation by idiot media types but nothing concrete.

I agree, Hos. We can't kill the demons of December until December.

However, after these past couple of weeks, I'm starting to wonder if we are beginning our swoon a couple of weeks early. I'll take the win from yesterday all day long, but against any team other than the Skins we would have been manhandled (the schedule gods are gracious).

I've labeled myself as a realist. Unfortunately, that monicker has been hijacked by a select few that only dwell on the negativity. I, too, have tried to take a more even keeled view of the team since the season started. I never got too high after the 4 game win streak and I've tried not to get too low after the losses. But, one thing is very real right now: This team is off (particularly the offense) big time right now.

I'm going to try and STAY centered with an optimistic eye toward the next 6 games, but I'd be lying if I told you that doubt hasn't crept into the back of the mind.

It is a known fact that Jerry changed the contract details at the last second and because of it, Dan Reeves refused to agree to it. Both parties acknowledged as much.

Not really. The contract was not changed at the last minute. It is the same contract the rest of the coaches signed. Coach Reeves objected to a part of it.

There's nothing wrong with doubt. Prediction...if Dallas blows out Oakland (note I said IF people) there will be hundreds of all is right in the world posts and doubts alleviated.

It is the nature of fans to over react. We all do it. None of us is immune no matter how hard we try to be. I promise you, even the koolaid drinkingest homers in the world get upset over another false start by the OL.

Even if Dallas blows out Oakland I wouldn't think all was right with this team. They still gotta earn their stripes. They also need to be able to get it done after thanksgiving.

The contract was agreed upon until Jerry demanded what amounted to punching a time clock and Dan was insulted by it and walked away. (petty, yes)

Still, Dan was being hired as a consultant, not a coach. Jason Garret could use some of that consulting right about now. Garrett is out of his league right now. Dan has produced several Superbowl teams. (granted the teams never actually won a Superbowl)

The shocking thing is you think this is some kind of revelation to me. We're going to be 5-11 remember? It'll be rough to hit that mark, but you stand firm in your stupor of thought.

Agree that Reeves would be a help right now. Bottom line is it did not get done. It's a shame, but I am not sure that Jerry chased him away. I think Reeves is an excellent coach and would love to have him as our HC in the future.

well I was going to make a thread eating crow about that and about miles austin but after the GB game I got lazy. The game against the Commanders doesn't make me want to de it either although we aren't 5-11. The team isn't anything to get excited over.

If you go back to 1:49 of the 2ndQ, The Cowboys ran 28 plays (not including kicks or kneel down). Of those 28 plays 21 were pass plays from the Shotgun. (or 75% of the plays were not only pass plays, but pass plays FROM the shotgun!)

Garrett learned nothing. This man is far too green to be running an NFL offense.

Jerry running Dan Reeves off is looking like a MAJOR mistake right about now. Reeves is an extremely smart football guy. Garrett would have had a great teacher to learn on the fly from.

I think Garret is a good guy, but he is in over his head right now.

Wow. Good breakdown. I agree he's in over his head. He doesn't seem to be a very good play caller. He's good at play design...but that skill seems to be rendered useless when the other team knows what play he's going to run and when he's going to run it

I largely agree.

What concerns me is the overall struggling to get a 1-point win. At home.
Mind you, this was not the Patriots or Colts or New Orleans. It was lowly Washington.
They played us toe to toe and effectively. In our house.
That concerns me. That we showed up to play and just showed up.
This was not a good team. It was a barely-adequte team. Uninspired. Yes, that is the word I was looking for.

When Witten shows emotion, it pumps up the players and the fans alike. That first down at Philly where he high-fived Phillips and that first down today where he popped up and pumped his fist (or whatever that was) are the type of plays that illustrate what I mean. After Witten's show of emotion today, I felt more confident of our chance of scoring on that drive.

Whey can't we hit Witten any longer down the middle. I'm not talking about over the middle for 8 yards while standing still on some curl rout or whatever it is. One of Romo's best throws used to be hitting Witten 20 yards down the middle. Can't remember the last time I saw that.

Like I said, the Cowboys deserved to lose. We are incredibly fortunate to be 7-3 right now.

Maybe you can petition the NFL to change it to loss?

That's it...
