I personally think that if the NFL is concerned with expanding teams’ ability to develop players. They would be better off starting by expanding rosters and expanding the maximum size of practice squad.

So the players can practice with and train with the higher level players and coaches.

I think that would be more beneficial to player development than a minor league.

For me college is the new NFL training camp. The salary cap dictates this I believe. Players no longer have time to sit on the bench and learn behind veterans that's why I think Prescott is still in training. For me this is his first true season coming up. I know I'm going to get slammed on this but oh well

They should had a seasons worth of revenue when they started

Currently, the NFL is not allowed to sign any AAF players until after their playoffs complete.

If I was Dallas, I would be on the phone with the agents of the following players:

Jamar Summers CB Birmingham
Karter Schult DE Salt Lake City
Mekale McKay WR San Antonio
Rashad Ross WR Arizona
Tyson Graham S Atlanta
Max Redfield S Birmingham

I would also add

Keith Reaser CB
Mike Purcell DT

These leagues will never be sustainable. Like I said when this first launched, if the arena league couldn't maintain its popularity then the AAFL and XFL won't be able too either.

Also, I just don't see a sport like this working as a development league...if you have it during the spring, the NFL will never allow its players to participate because of the risk of injury and if you have it at the same time with the NFL season, I think players would be better off staying with their NFL teams and practicing with them, working out at the facilities, etc.

I actually understand and agree with what you're saying for the most part. But the practice squad is where they would actually end up. Is just not enough time for them to play with the starters. I actually like the league yes I agree in knew it wouldn't last this just not enough Revenue to pay for it. There is only so much beer a person can drink. Since the late 1960s NFL/AFL merger, and other than the Arena Football League, which is a much different game and cheaper to stage, the last full-size pro football league that lasted longer in the USA market than one full season was the USFL.

The USFL survived a few seasons because the NFL wasn’t yet the 32 team behemoth it is today, NFL Network didn’t yet exist and there wasn’t the 24hr/365 availability of multiple world-wide sporting events that are now readily available.

March Madness, the NBA, the NHL and the beginning of the MLB season — just to name some obvious viewing alternatives — pretty much guarantee that a minor-league (read: second rate) springtime version of pro football will have a tough time competing for the kind of dollars it will take to make a go of it — especially putting butts in seats in $tadiums.

As far as competing directly with the NFL? Rub a lamp.

so many people think the stadium Revenue pays for the players salaries. I'm not even sure it covers the utility bills. I agree that is just not enough TV Revenue to go around

There will never be an "official" developmental league for the NFL that doesn't allow the NCAA to get their pound of flesh out of the players first.

The problem with that is there is only so much practice time to begin with and many of these guys didn't get many reps when they were on off season rosters. Having an additional league gets these guys real practice time and reps, they would never see on NFL rosters because of the practice limits and time restraints and the NFLPA is not gonna be in favor in increasing the limits.

I can't believe that NFL owners aren't smart enough (and too cheap) to realize the opportunity they have and simply have a true minor league of their own. With real team names, real team logos, real team stadiums, and real NFL prospects.

Instead, we get one half *** failed operation after another from the World League to NFL Europe to the XFL, to this, and then back to another XFL. One big sad cycle.

yes the owners are cheap, have they ever paid for full time refs? they knew about cte way before it came out, goodell and nfl wont make a move unless its money in their pockets, just like now their saying marijuana has benefits, etc and they have to admit it but they wont use it till they use the marijuana as a bargaining chip for the owners towards new cba their is an old saying, the rich
get richer the poorer get poorer unless God does something about it just like now the cowboys are reported to be worth 4 billion, a few years ago barely was
1 billion, thats why the players want free agency but with salary cap u cant do that
just like aaf came up with sky cam but nfl wont use it, cost money for that extra ref etc to operate, and more money to put in extra cameras u all heard goodell say some stadiums have only 8 cameras the owners nfl are cheap
