How about a winning record or playoff victory? I don't expect a SB every year, but it would be nice to say we at least competed.

It'd be nice no doubt, and as a casual fan like everybody here I'd enjoy it thoroughly. But to blame everything on Jerry Jones 24/7 no matter what gets old and gets really annoying. There are only a handful of owners as successful as Jerry Jones when it comes to running a football team, and nobody wants to win more badly than Jones himself and the family. He is not deliberately pursuing failure and mediocrity. He has put a great product on the field for the last several years, (Basically the entire Romo era), and games are won and lost by the effort that the team puts out on the field, and various other conditions that determine the outcomes. Can you blame the botched-snap on Jones? The Crayton drop? The injuries? The defensive schemes? Sure you can point to him, and be critical of the coaching decisions, but not on the lack of Super Bowls, because statstically you are entitles to a win every 32 years or so. He has given the fan base three since the late 80s, it'd be nice to win a fourth one in this decade no doubt, but if it were so easy and simple, then the entire purpose of the NFL would be broken which is competitively, for better or for worse, and it has kept the league at its all-time greatest.

And that's why I love this sport, specifically this league, and this team. Not saying Jones is god, but he sure as hell isn't Satan either. He is a great personality who wants to win and I stand by him.

I think Donald is a good fit.. However I think there is a chance that a better player could be there at 16.. I would be happy with Donald though because he fits perfectly into the scheme and would be an impact player day 1.. One negative about Donald is that he is extremely scheme specific so if we were to switch to a 3-4 ever again or a different variation of the 4-3 it could render him useless.

Players that could possibly still be there at 16 that are BETTER PLAYERS than Donald.

Mike Evans (WR, Texas A&M) - Not even close to a need
Khalil Mack (OLB, Buffalo) - Won't be there
Anthony Barr (OLB, UCLA) - Won't be there
Ha'Sean Clinton Dix (FS, Alabama) - Seriously?!? 2nd Rnd talent at best
Taylor Lewan (OT, Michigan) - Won't be there
Marqise Lee (WR, USC) - Won't be there

So all in all I think there is a chance to get a better player than Donald at 16 but I wouldn't be mad at the pick at all.. As long as they don't reach and take a guy like Kony Ealy or Dee Ford at 16 I will be ok.

I will be interested to revisit this after the draft because I think there is a real chance one of the guys you said won't be there will be there.. And Donald is clearly the need over Evans but Evans is the better player.. so it comes down to your philosophy regarding drafting.. As for Clinton Dix we can agree to disagree but I think he is going to be a really good player

With the #16 pick in the draft the dallas cowboys trade down.......This is picking up a lot of steam. I am going with 80% chance.

I would love to have Donald but main thing I want to see is Dallas addressing the defense. Only offense I would be interested in getting is more help along the OL. In my view Dallas has good weapons at WR and RB, while OL showed major improvement does not mean we can't improve up front. Main thing however is Defense.

I've said all along I want a OL early and late the rest all D all the time. My only concern is WR because there will be a hole to fill when Austin leaves. We need someone we can count on if Dez or Twill gets dinged. The Bease and Harris make me nervous as starters even part time. FA addition perhaps.

you think Kalil Mack will be there at 16!? he is spoken as a potential top 5 player. same with barr.

Dix, maybe available.

I say no to Lee.

I say no to evans.

if Donald and lewan are there, go with Donald.

to me its a done deal unless somehow Donald or one of the top guys like Barr slips.we just need a team which wants to trade up,it doesnt have to be an equal trade.

I'm hoping we get Donald if hes there. The guy has an incredible motor and plays with good leverage. People worry about his height but I don't think that will be a problem. Geno Atkins is around the same height and look at how he fares.

Good

Good one. An old-school X-Men fan.
Totally dig it.
Prof X would definitely be the coach.
How could they lose? He'd know the oppositions plays before they did...

That guy could have been the greatest gambler ever.

Of course Colossus playing both lines..

I'm not even ashamed to say it - I want Johnny Manziel regardless of what it takes to move up and get him.

I'm not at all excited about this upcoming season; Manziel would change that.

Oh, no. Let's not go with "regardless of what it takes." That was Jerry's approach in getting Joey Galloway and Roy Williams the WR. Both players did have some valuable skills, but Jerry paid WAY to much each time and it hurt the team. If Manziel is somehow there at 16, then maybe it's worth it. It could even conceivably be with giving up a little, if that somehow moved us up enough. Maybe. But the "regardless of what it takes" attitude could mean giving up two #1 picks like we did for Galloway. That wasn't even remotely worth it. And this team desperately needs help on the D, especially on the line. Giving up too much to land Manziel would be a disaster. There isn't any quarterback alive who can get you a championship without a good D to have his back. I think this year's Super Bowl proved that.

All valid points. However, this team isn't (in my opinion) a few defensive lineman from going all the way. We aren't a "missing piece away" team anymore (if we ever were in the first place)

This team is a mess from top to bottom. Everything from the salary cap, to the obnoxious number of offensive coaches, to the aging QB, etc. I just want to watch something new and different. I wouldn't mind giving up a lot in this years draft because quite frankly, I don't think this years draft is going to really help this team all that much in the grand scheme of things. We've gone 8-8 for the last 3 seasons and each season ending with a divisional rival going to the playoffs instead of us.

I don't even see this team getting to that "win or go home" game this year, so why not plan for the future? I hate to say it, but if Romo, Ware, Witten, and co. were going to win a Super Bowl, then I think their best shot to do it has long passed them by.

I don't want Manziel in any round and fear that somehow he will drop and we will trade up. I will be watching the early partof the draft hoping someone picks him before a trade up is feasible.

I do want Donald, but we should be able to get a great player if he is taken. I don't think there will be a better option at our pick, and I would say that if we were 10th.

If Donald isn't there and barrring some miracle that one of the top end guys drops into their lap, I hope the team finds a taker too move down. Cowboys need to address the dline badly and other than Zack Martin I can't imagine another guy I would be excited to get at that spot. Considering the depth at tackle/guard in this draft even Martin might not be worth the prospect of getting an extra pick or two.

Unfortunately, you may be right about the current core not being the one that can get us back to the championship. For a while, particularly in '07, it looked like they might be. The thing is, you don't rebuild by overpaying for players, both in terms of draft picks/trading and financially. It's entirely possible that the next core could start with Manziel, but it would not be a good start to overpay for him. If he's not there at 16 or if a modest trade up isn't enough to get him, then we're better off using our current picks as they stand to start rebuilding this defense and then go after a good QB in next year's draft. A big part of Jerry's problem at GM has been giving up too much for a players he wants, either ones he wants to obtain or ones he wants to keep.
