Aaron Donald vs Larry Allen in his prime?

Man Aaron Donald is a beast. Anyone that finds it disrespectful to compare him to older guys have old man syndrome….

Yeah. I guess they missed the part where he closed both NFCG and SB by imposing his will end of both games. Not sure what more people need to see. Having the slightest bit of impartiality helps. If Donald never plays another snap, he gets a gold jacket in 5 years, it really isn't debatable.

Donald is an all time great but he is not better at his position than Allen was. That is a very fair opinion to have especially when you consider that Allen is mentioned in the all time greatest OL conversation as a guard.

John Randle was comparable to Donald. Same size, had strength fast off the snap. And Larry in his prime destroyed him. Larry Allen in his prime was just so much better then everybody else. I can see Donald getting a win here and there but Larry would've just overwhelmed him with his strength. And let's not forget Larry in his prime had speed. Remember the rundown vs the saints. Sorry but this is a easy call Larry in his prime over Donald easy.

I love seeing some of the historic plays in Cowboys history you guys have been putting on the website, especially the one of Larry Allen's tackle to prevent the pick-six. I would love nothing more than to be able to see Allen in his prime go toe-to-toe with Aaron Donald of the Rams. Head-to-head, who do you think wins that battle? — RANDY CHILDS / NORTH GRAFTON, MA

Nick: Wow, that's a tough one. Especially tough because there's never a right answer there. Just like with any competition, they both would probably win at times in the game. But overall, I've got to go with Larry Allen, just because of his pure strength. Not saying Donald isn't strong and he's definitely quick, but Allen could certainly move for a big guy, too. I think Allen would be able to handle Donald most of the time, but it would be a fun matchup to watch.

Good stuff right here. That’s a tough one. For my money Allen is the best O-lineman of all time. Donald could go down in the same d line category if he does it….not many more years.

Right. I get everyone has their preference..but its insulting to Donald to say comparing him to Allen is disrespectful.....clearly must've never seen Donald play.

Put Allen on the Rams and Donald on the Cowboys and ask this question again and watch how it'll switch to Donald would dominate Allen.

Naw I disagree. Because if someone said Reggie White was better than Micah Parsons these same people would say Reggie White. I don't think it has anything to do with the star. Hell we know that lol.

I'd say that 8/10 pass plays, Larry Allen wins the matchup.

larry allen would win out right 8 out of 10 plays. neutralize him for the other 2. Allen was a beast. big, strong, quick.

I would say Donald's actually reminds me of Alan Page. Page was small even for the era he played. Page was a lot of the time unblockable because of quickness, technique, and where and how he lined up. I saw every player you mentioned play. I am a huge Lilly fan. I agree we are watching basketball on grass now. However I think you are greatly under rating Donald. I think he would have been just as impacted, if not more so against the smaller offensive linemen back in the day.

I like the comparison to Alan Page and I definitely understand Donald is an impactful player.
I fully appreciate how he willed his team to win in the end of the NFC championship game and the super bowl.

But I will go on record as saying Larry Allen is beyond a generational talent he is one of a handful of human beings on the planet that in his prime possessed an amount of athleticism and strength that I really don't think we will ever witness again in our lifetime

In the video above, when Larry was a rookie and overcommitted to the right. But he never got the better of him for a game. A play here or there, of course.

I’m a CD Larry Allen fan. He’s the g o a t. I made the pint to say anyone can lose a play to an all-time great. I believe Donald wouldn’t be quite as good in the 90s because he’s have to defend the run 12 more times per game.

Larry is arguably the best lineman of all time. If there weren't such a bias against lineman and in favor of skill players he might be a top 10 all time at any position. He was that dominant. He made other HoF'ers not want to play against him.

Donald is very good but LA was on a different level.

I would take Larry in that matchup because he is every bit as quick and fast as Donald but 50 pounds heavier and much stronger. Larry dominated a lot of guys with Donald's level of ability. Several of them are already in the Hall of Fame.. but can be found on the business end of a Larry Allen pancake..
