You take the good with the bad.
Everyone understands Ro is a head case. But if you're willing to deal with that, you will get a blue chipper player on Sunday.
Each club has to decide whether they can or can't deal with such players. I may not have liked Jimmy Johnson as a person, but as a football coach, he was one of the best. And it started by being up front. If you're going to have a sliding scale for fairness, be up front about it. Don't try to preach, fairness than treat players unfairly.
Jimmy was honest about it. I suspect Jason Garrett learned something from Jimmy. He understands that Ro is a different cat than Jason Witten. But I think he understands that Witten understands this too and is comfortable enough to understand why he may treat Ro differently than other players.
Ro is kind of like Charles Haley - you endure the nonsense because you know what he can give you on Sunday.
Between now and January 4th there will be no more than 16 days where the Cowboys are happy to have Rolondo McClain. He's a guy where "there's always something" with him which is why the team showed such little interest in signing him, and why it's fair for you to be annoyed. But the guy does show up on game days.
Team should little interest in signing him? Thats news to me. They always wanted to sign him at a price that they wanted to. All this talk about the team really didn't need him because he has issues is ridiculous. Frankly, I would rather him in the middle than Hitchens. He certainly was missed during the Green Bay game and he's gonna be missed if he's not in there playing.
It's funny...people that know him like him.....people that don't.....oh well.
Isn't Rolando McClain suspended for first 4 games anyway?
If the Cowboys were in the nickel for over 60% of the defensive snaps last season...it could be Hitchens & Lee (if both healthy -- knock on wood), on the field more than most.
Given the injury issues at the position & McClain's history...the amount of LB's they have brought in makes some sense. Wilson is viewed as potentially a Hitchens kind of player. Brinkley is a big thumper. Then they of course added Rivers & Gachkar...and have continued to add others. Hitchens is playing in the middle in Ro's absence...and that could well be who would start there if he has injury/off-field issues, or another change of heart.
I'm not a fan of McClain's, because he's mentally unreliable.
