About "Adam Jones" and "Terry Johnson"...

That's what I keep saying too.

Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam. I like the ebonics there. Shows me the motivation for using "Adam", confirming what I already knew.

I didn't bring up race. You did. I brought up "thug" and "ebonics".

So apparently, those things = "black" to you.
Do you think Adam told the Judge he preferred Pacman? Do you think the judge called him pacman? Do you think the judge disrespected him if he called him Adam? Do you think the judge cared? Do you think the judge would call him Pacman if he told him that's what he preferred?
You're calling others dense when THIS is your argument?

Who gives a crap what he's called in court? In EVERY other situation in his life, he goes by Pacman Jones. Period.

He's not on trial.
Fuzzy my man, its not an uncommon moniker ITS HIS NAME.
It is an uncommon monikor, because nobody called him Adam Jones before he got into trouble. He has treated Pacman as his first name his entire life.

If you don't want to respect that, or if you feel you know what's better for the uncivilized thug and his mother than he does, that's your own arrogance coming into play.
The argument you guys are making is calling the man by his name is disrespectful. If he doesnt like his name he can change it easily
1) It's disrespectful because he's made it clear he prefers Pacman.

2) It's not as simple as that. I don't know why he doesn't legally change it to Pacman and neither do you. Like I mentioned earlier, maybe it's out of respect for his parents who named him. That's the reason my sister's name is still legally Armaghan even though she's gone by Amy her entire life.

The ONLY thing we know is that he prefers to go by Pacman.

And he has only had the ol' switcheroo pulled on his preferred name AFTER getting into trouble with the law. That tells me it has more to do with fans wanting to change everything about his personal life (including his perceived "thug name" as someone put it) without caring about what the man himself prefers.

You can scoff and call this a non-issue all you want... but the truth is that we all have a name we prefer to go by, and we'd all be upset if people started calling us something different without our consent.

Plus, I don't see how this is any less important than Jimmy Johnson not being on some NFL Network list. :D

So, throughout elementary, junior high and high school, every one of his teachers called him by his arcade name during roll call. Quite frankly, I find that somewhat incredulous, but hey, you know him and his past better than anyone else here.

Yeah, teachers don't count. Some of them may still cheer their former student. Oh well.

He doesn't even have an NFL.com listing under "Adam Jones".

But lookie here.

Oh my. Let's look closer at the link which led to that particular find on the same website-

Looks like NFL.com doesn't understand that his first name should be listed among NFL players named Jones with the P's. I wonder why..?

Hahaha... so the order in which his name is listed on NFL.com holds more importance than the actual name they use? Okaaaay dude, whatever.

Yeah, whatever. Until they list the man's name in 'proper' alphabetical order, they obviously consider his first name as his REAL name. Or do you have some other explanation of why they conveniently list his name in the exact position where 'Adam' Jones would be expected?

they obviously consider his first name as his REAL name.
And why does it read Pacman Jones and not Adam Jones?

I never said Pacman was his REAL name. Legally, he is Adam Jones.

But to his own preference, he is Pacman Jones. He doesn't like going by Adam.

And he wasn't called Adam by arrogant fans until AFTER he got in trouble with the law. They knew better than to keep calling him by his "thug name".

You're really struggling with the comprehension here.

Your main premise is that its disrespectful to call him Adam. That's ridiculous. He was called Adam in court. You think that the judge was disrespectful?

And I seriously doubt that in every other situation he's called Pacman. What do you think his Social Security Card says?

It's his legal name. How you can believe calling someone by their legal name is disrespectful is beyond me.

What if he wanted you to call him pretty or precious or lover boy? I don't know about you, but I'm not doing that.

I think it's a stupid nickname. Nothing I've seen him do even remotely reminds me of Pacman. I didn't watch him attack a bottle when he was an infant. I'll call him what I want.

And I really don't care if you're indignant enough to think I'm being disrespectful or not.

And following bbgun's lead with the Seinfeld references...

Remember the episode when George tried to come up with his own nickname? I think he wanted to be called T-Bone. You can't control that kind of stuff. With nicknames you usually get saddled with something you don't like, but people call you that whether you like it or not. Actually the more you hate it, the more likely it is to stick... at least that's how it goes with my friends.

It's because that's what he prefers? Nobody's arguing what he wants to be called. The NFL obviously wish to advertise him by the name he prefers to be called. You're the one with a crusader thread practically demanding that if people call him by his REAL name, they're in the wrong. Bullhockey.

Well, duh!

You keep bestowing him with burnt offerings. Some of us will refer to him as Adam Jones. That's life. Let's live it.

Now it's arrogant fans. Those poor, poor teachers. ~sigh!~

Here's why your court example is off-base.

In a court of law, you conform to what the judge wants. You dress a certain way, you speak a certain way, and you generally act a certain way.

In other words, the judge is above you. You have to kiss his butt because it's your keester on the line, and he/she dictates your future.

He isn't kissing anyone's butt (other than maybe Roger Goodell's) outside of court. So outside of court, it's a completely different situation.

He prefers Pacman, and he's gone by Pacman for as long as any of us have heard of the guy.
How you can believe calling someone by their legal name is disrespectful is beyond me.
It's disrespectful because it goes against his wishes. He's made it crystal clear that he prefers his nickname as his first name. It's just that simple.

"Hey Adam!"
"Actually, I go by Pacman."
"Okay, Adam, whatever you say!"

You don't see any semblance of disrespect there? Really?
I think it's a stupid nickname. Nothing I've seen him do even remotely reminds me of Pacman. I didn't watch him attack a bottle when he was an infant. I'll call him what I want.
Be perfectly honest here, please.

Do you call him Adam Jones? If so, how long have you referred to him as Adam and not Pacman? Did you start BEFORE his legal troubles in the NFL began?
What if he wanted you to call him pretty or precious or lover boy? I don't know about you, but I'm not doing that.
This isn't a nickname he spontaneously came up with at the height of his egotism. He's held it his entire life, and for all we know he's always treated it as his first name, and NOT simply as a nickname.
Now it's arrogant fans. Those poor, poor teachers. ~sigh!~
He's been Pacman Jones to all of us for as long as we've heard of the guy. But by all means, keep spinning away.

"Spinning?"

My friend, practically every single post of yours from jump has been a spin on respectability as it pertains to addressing others. If I were a toy top manufacturer, I would name my flagship product 'The Nav22'.

this newdg thinks Muhammed Ali changing his name from Cassius Clay to make a statement is the same as Adam Jones taking up his nickname

he's friggin' clueless

but he entertains us, resident punchline, Nav22

From the guy who believes the order in which your name is listed on NFL.com... says more than WHAT THE ACTUAL NAME LISTED IS, you have NO idea how hilarious your last post was.

I'll be chuckling for the next several minutes... thank you.

"Several minutes?" Hell, I've waited nearly an hour for your spin on why NFL.com lists his name alphabetically in the same slot where Adam Jones should be and not with the P's. Please.

This thread is uglier than the chick in John Cougar's "Hurts So Good" video.
