Agree but difference is that Tolbert was a 2nd day pick which are expected to contribute immediately.

Ridgeway was a project pick.
WRs used to seldom be expected to contribute right away. Even first rounders used to take time. Besides, maybe that is more about the growth and experience of the other wideouts moreso than his shortcomings.

Those days are long gone.

Especially when you trade away last season's WR#1 for peanuts (WR#3 still injured and let WR#4 walk in FA) then draft replacement with their 3rd pick.

Would be quite the gut punch if our 2nd and 3rd round picks aren't active. And please, let's not try to pretend these two are victims of deep and uber talented depth charts at WR and DE.

Tolbert would be funny in that there were people swearing we didnt need to add any vet help after Washington got hurt because Tolbert was legit and would fill some of the void. Oy.

How did Sam Williams even get in this discussion ? One of the best defenders in pre season. I’m expecting him to live up to the legacy of 54 . No not the recent one I’m going beck to the days of the Manster out of Maryland .

Appreciate the compliment. I always did my best and took pride in our accomplishments.:flagwave:

It's a long season, the young guys will get their shot....maybe not Sunday against the Bucs but their day will come.

Maybe we should judge Tolbert at the end of his rookie season rather than before game 1 because there’s a rumor he might not be active for Tampa.

Even if he isn’t active this week, it is just one game and doesn’t tell us a lot about what type of year he’ll have.

Broaddus back to the shock and aww statements based on no facts. He must have been watching Stephen A and Skip B reruns.

“One of the best defenders in preseason”? No way you watched the games and came away believing that. He was a JAG.

Tolbert was a third round pick. History shows third round picks take time to develop.

I think the "judging" going on was by the homers who claimed we didn't need a vet WR in camp after Washington got hurt because Tolbert was ready and would be adequate until Gallup was back. People rightfully pointed out history shows guys like Tolbert don't make immediate impacts so it was a risk not bringing in help at WR and thinking Tolbert and Brown and Turpin would hold down the fort.

If Tolbert can't active, that kind of blows the theory that we are really fine at WR because we have Tolbert into doubt.

The Tolbert hype this preseason was so perplexing. Felt like it was all based off a few positive practice tweets and the groupthink just took over.

I’ve said my piece about Sam, he looks like a bust to me.

It should be no surprise that Tolbert would take time. I don't think anyone has shut the book on him as he clearly has talent but was raw.

But the homers got way ahead of themselves here with guys like Tolbert and Williams when people pointed out we had holes at DE and WR. Oh no, they cried, Tolbert and Williams will fill those voids.

They never learn.
