Is he blowing smoke?

Probably not. It's not like there is a lot of intrigue with the 22nd selection.

OK, so if we don't select a WR... What's your guess? Spencer the DE/OLB from Purdue? Staley the offensive tackle (I don't see this one happening)? The FS/CB from Miami? Ross the CB from Texas? Griffin the safety from Texas? Revis if he's there?

So scratching WR from the list what's your best guess?

Trade down is the obvious move if there is any taker. Normally you can find one team willing to move up.

Looks like Spencer is the name that keeps coming up. That's my guess.

I did not see in the interview with Jones that he said NO to WR, I don't think Dallas is ruling anything out right now

I'm HOPING it's Spencer.

I know we like him and have talked at length with him.

I think the other player JJ seems to think highly off is Merriweather.

smokescreen. as earlier in the offseason jerry said wr was a big possibility. the way the game is played today and the rules invoved, DB has moved way down as an impact posistion. i think if its not wr, they either have to be trading out or up.

Where did Jerry say no WR at? I heard him say he wanted a WOW player and I believe that Bowe, Meachum, Jarrett, or Ginn could be considered that.

Question--"Do you need to address the receiver at some point?"
Jerry's answer--"The real reason to address WR is that that position is the one with the most depth. You can get a guy in the 2nd or 3rd round. You can do that then. We don't think that Terrell and Glenn won't be here next year. It's possible. Although Crayton isn't under contract past next year, that could change if he has the kinda year we want him to have. But you could get a WR, it might be the smart play, to get one in those late first day draft. But there's one WR that if you put the whole package together, he's probably the best one I've ever seen. But I don't want to pay that price. *laughs*"

It sure doesn't look like the pick at number #22 is being spent on a WR. 2nd or 3rd round? Yeah. But not #22.

Yep, but Meriweather could be had in the 2nd round...

That could be the case but no where did Jerry say NO to WR. I think you reading more into it then what was said at least by what I read on the posted interview.

Personally, I hope we either go for Ross, who could probably help out the most next season.

Ellis is getting older and an achilles injury at his age is terrible for explosion off the ball. I think Ross could be a pretty good pass rusher and Lord knows we need that, since nobady wants to sit through another season of Ware or nothing on 'D'.

And when he said "Wow", he meant "Wow-- this year Wow" None of those guys is "Wow" enough to beat out Glenn or TO. Calvin Johnson could beat out Glenn IMO. Peterson of course would be an upgrade.

i wouldnt mind if he paid that price. i dont expect dallas to have a high pick next yr anyways. give up that extra 1st for calvin. calvin, owens, and glenn roaming the slot. thats unstopable

Heck I listened to it. He (Jerry) was talking about looking at receivers in the 2nd and 3rd round.

I honestly don't think the #22 pick and next years #1 would be enough to move up into the top four to get Johnson. It might be enough to get high enough for Peterson, if he slips a bit (read: the Browns go for Quinn and not AP.)

Bill said he was very leery of drafting a WR in the 1st?
There are a couple positions, where if you're going to use the 1st, you want it to be an impact player. Safety? He needs to be a Roy Williams. He has to be someone that has something extra. Receiver is in that category. If we have the opportunity to get a player that I think is a "wow", is an impact, that's a given. Candidly, I'd like it on the offensive side of the ball. Do something to juice it up. 31 other clubs are probably looking at the same guy. With what we've got at RB, QB, TE, O-line we could draft an impact player at WR.

He did not say we would not take a WR those are your words saying Jerry said no to WR but he did not say any such thing.

There are better corners then Ross in this draft. Everytime I watched UT this year he was getting smoked. He would be an upgrade in the return game, but not in the nickel defense.

There's a difference between saying we absolutely will not take a WR at #22, and saying we are looking to do that in Round 2 or 3. It's all a fluid situation. If none of our guys are there at 22, and our BPA is a WR, then this statement doesn't mean we won't take that guy.

Jerry also strongly inferred the only impact or "Wow" WR was Calvin Johnson... for some reason Dooms I don't he'll be there at #22... but maybe your draft chart is different than mine. ;)
