According to Jerry--NO WR at #22.

It appears that other positions interest the Cowboys at #22 much more so than WR.

We don't know who Dallas is going to draft or what position to sit there and say other wise is nothing more than guessing. My hope is we get a quality player who will be with us for years to come if that is WR great if it is a pass rusher great but no Jerry did not rule out any position

That's why if we stay at #22 the pick will end up being Spencer because Ellis isn't certain to come back and Carp doesn't have the explosive pass rush potential.

Maybe, but would Spencer be guaranteed to start?

Lookit, I know Jerry wants a WOW player, but it's hard to find those guys at #22. He can scream WOW player until he's blue in the face, but I don't see anyone who is assured of being there at 22 who fits the bill with the personnel we have in place. It's a nice motto to have, but it's not always reality.

I don't even think Spencer is a WOW guy. He's certainly not "guaranteed" to start. Ellis could come back fine and/or Carp could beat him out.

Keep dreaming...:laugh2: There will be enough talented WR's available in the 2nd round.

There's a deal already I tell you!:D

He certainly has more of a chance to start compared to any receiver other than Calvin Johnson being able to beat out either Glenn or TO.

For the record I would consider Ginn Meachem or Jarrett at 22, but it sounds Jerry will be looking for WR later.

If that's the case I would guess one of the following:

Spencer
Branch (not likely he's available, but you never know)
Revis
Aaron Ross
Meriwhether
R. Nelson

I don't know about that.

Sure Ellis is rehabbing now, and there's no way to know if he'll be healthy enough, but TGlenn is dealing with pretty serious knee issues. An OLB will be fighting with 3 guys (one injured) for that spot, while a 1st Round WR will be fighting with just Terry. He'll probably be the #3 WR from Day 1.

What I took from the interview was more about how we go about making our selection not who we would draft or not. Jerry is not going to show his hand until draft day

I don't see how anyone can say Jerry Jones won't take a WR at #22.

Since when did any coach/GM tell the media explicitly what his draft plans were?

I think it's a smoke screen. And even the comments about only one receiver having that WOW factor is BS. I'm sure if Ginn is there, he'll be just the WOW factor Jerry Jones is looking for for the Cowboys offense. I predict the Cowboys will select from these five players if available ...

1. Ginn
2. Meachem
3. Merriweather
4. Nelson
5. Spencer (trade down)

Right or wrong, I don't think Jerry wants to go WR in the first round. I agree with what MW took from the interview.

Jerry wants someone to come in and help this season and a WR just won't be able to do that much. Jerry did mention wishing he had traded up when he had a superbowl team and now that he feels like it'll be hard to crack the lineup... we could see him package some picks and move up for a guy who he feels like *can* help this year.

Yep...Free fall all the way to 22.

Free fall all the way to a reach pick? 22nd pick in the 2nd round maybe.

How dare you come in here and talk sense!

The "I only want a WR for pick #22" crowd just won't buy it no matter how much hand writing Jerry put on the wall.

It's easy-- listen to the interview.

People don't smoke-screen at pick #22... there's nothing to smoke-screen for. The blue-chippers are long gone by that point.

A reach pick at 22.

They'll be lucky if he's even there at 22...In the First round.

Good thing I'm not part of that crowd. I'm part of the we don't know what Dallas is going to do crowd. Jerry said nothing about who will will or will not pick and did not say we would or would not take a WR only a handful around here is making such statements and they seem to be the guys who claimed we would not take a WR in rd 1 before the Jerry interview. We don't know where players rank on the Dallas draft board so for instance if a guy like Meachum is ranked with in the top 15 on the Cowboys board but is there at 22 to the Cowboys suprise there is no way of knowing if Dallas would draft him or not. Without seeing where these guys rank on the Cowboys board there is no way of knowing who is wowing Jones or not.

Well, I hope you don't think I'm one of "those." I think we could go a lot of different directions, I just don't think he ruled anything out.

If you think that statement was ruling out positions (any of them), then it logically leads to the conclusion you made (Spencer). I just don't think Jerry would tip his hand. At least that's what I want to believe :D

No. I'm not saying that Spencer is the conclusive pick. I'd like him to be but I wouldn't be shocked if it weren't him.
