Actors known for three roles

That's what I'm talking about. Most actors aren't going to be known for a role by playing in one movie unless that character was so dominant that you just can't overlook the performance like say Jack Nicholson in "The Shining". He IS that role.
I think that basically, if people know the character's name, and it makes them think of the actor, that qualifies as "known for the role". What say you?

Jack Nicholson

One Flew Over rhe Cuckcoo’s Nest. (Ken Kesey)
Chinatown. (Jake Gittes)
The Shining. (Jack Torrance)

If by some wild chance, anyone here as not seen all three of these epic movies, please do so

Then again, none of these were ongoing roles like some of the others.
Sounds like the OP wants that instead in this thread

I just think there's a difference between say a guy who stars in a flick and an actor who really leaves their mark and will forever be remembered for the role like say Charlie Sheen in Platoon. And I do think the overall quality of the flick has to be taken into account.

In other words, career making/defining kinds of roles, and people who have been fortunate enough to have 3 of those.

John Travolta

Vinny Barbarino - Welcome Back Kotter
Tony Manero - Saturday Night Fever
Bud ? - Urban Cowboy

Not a fan of the movies, but they were massive blockbusters and shaped pop culture in their time.

Paul Newman

Cool Hand Luke
The Hustler
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

All great movies, and Newman’s character is referenced in the title of each, making him even more identifiable with the character.
