I think it's actually bad news that Jerry has lined up across from some of the most powerful owners in the NFL. That suggest to me that Goodell will, not only continue to support suspention, but will be in a position to make it very difficult for the Cowboys, going forward.

The reality of this is that it doesn't really impact Elliott. His suspension will go forward way before any of the extension issues are decided. Honestly, from a business standpoint, I am not real sure what Jerry is doing here.

The focus of Schefter's dialogue on Mike and Mike was the threatened Jerry Jones law suit against the NFL.

Fundamentally, Schefter opined that the law suit was nothing more than a power grab - Jerry Jones wants to take over the NFL. There was no mention of the Zeke Elliott case nor any mention of the recent Tom Stokes article "connecting the dots".

I'm paraphrasing here, but the consensus was Jerry had no basis for the lawsuit, didn't have much support amongst other owners, was out of line and that Goodell would ultimately get an extension.

Normally, I am a big supporter of M&M, but in this case, their discourse seemed baised and shortsighted.
Actually, Adam did mention this stems from Goodell's handling of Zeke's case.
I heard him too.

Zeke will probably serve his suspension but Jerry is having Roger dig his own grave. It went from just business to personal.

NFL War of attrition. The NFL started it, and Jerry is only firing back. This IMO is good for the fans (forcing the powerful to level the playing field) in the same way this whole Harvey Weinstein thing will end up being a positive for the less powerful people in all walks of professional life.

He listens to a show where people present opinions.

Then complains because this show - which focuses on opinions - is "biased"

I do not think that means what he thinks it means
At least someone gets it.

It'll be interesting to watch who sides where as this thing starts to take shape.

You're already seeing ESPN articles quoting unnamed sources aimed at getting the league out ahead of the PR battle.

It'll be interesting to see the coverage on NFLN today as the wagons circle.

Mainstream sports media is just pitiful at this point. Less fact based reporting and more narrative driving.

Hell, look at the Zeke case. Perception (outside of Cowboys fans closely following the case) didn't even begin to change until the injunction was in place AND people were basically forced to acknowledge that there's a real chance that some shady unfair stuff went down.

They are part of the problem. But we can disagree on that.
Not even close. The players are the product and the talent which is a unique position as laborers.

The owners and the nfl are beyond greedy. Taxpayers pay for their stadiums, they charge 10$ a beer, pay stadium workers minimum wage, benefit greatly from antitrust exemption then cry foul when the players want more. Some were even caught red handed colluding to keep saleries low—see Uncapped year salary cap violation.

Players out of control. “please”

If the article is true, I don't think Jerry has a shot here. I mean, there could be something I'm missing but those names represent a lot of power in the NFL. If they are supporting Goodell, then I don't see how we can come out ahead on this. The CBA gives him the power. I don't know all the language specific to the owners, in terms of Goodell's authority but I am guessing that it's going to work a lot like it does with the NFLPA and the Players. He has the Authority so without the support of a lot of these owners, I don't see this ending up well. IDK.

You are preaching to the choir here. I mean, I don't think the Cowboys have gotten a fair shake from the NFL either but so what. This is more about if Jerry can win.

It only makes sense to me if Jerry has the support from enough owners to stop the extension now. Otherwise, Jerry should be playing the long game to make sure this is Goodell’s last contract and doing everything possible to make him a lame duck Commissioner.

Time is on Jerry’s side. These TV ratings aren’t going to get any better and Goodell will almost certainly do more stupid stuff to alienate other owners. But Jerry’s not going to be able to lead the anti-Goodell effort if he’s suing the other owners.

Excuse that reply to you. The post was actually just making a statement rather than an actual responding to your post. Your post just provoked the thought.

Yep. It's all leaks and unsourced rumors and shouted opinions. On all sides. It's terrible.

Well, that's the thing right? I mean, if he had enough support, then it's really never a question but according to the article, he doesn't. He has 4 or 5 less powerful owners against, literally, the most powerful members and a bunch of other owners sitting on their hands. This doesn't sound like it's lining up well for Jerry. I don't know enough about he situation so it's hard to be definitive but according to what's in the article, I don't like this.

That’s assuming the article is true and not just NFL spin. If the support for Goodell is so overwhelming, this extension should be a done deal already.

I agree, and I did elude to that fact that it is an "If" kinda of deal. For all we know, all of this is just a ploy. I don't know enough about all of this yet.
