Adam Schefter: "There's not a player in football with more leverage right now than Dak Prescott."

There will be at least 2-4 teams willing to make Prescott the highest paid player in the league.

Are there 2-4 QBs Jerry can just go get to replace him without severe dropoff? No.

It’s not difficult to calculate who has the leverage here.
Basically.

LOL ...couple of reasons
***free agent
*** legit top 10 starter at the most important and expensive position in football.
So, he's going to create basically the biggest jump in QB salary in history?

Not buying it. Not even close to $60.

Next man up...if they even become the top paid, usually only raises the bar by a million or so.

And this is a Dak, not a Mahomes.

What if he things go poorly & he doesn't even keep the stats rolling?

What if he were to get benched at some point?

What if he gets injured?

Are they really lining up to pay that kind of money to a QB who would be entering his 10th season when he stepped on the field for them while never even getting team to a conference championship?
If everything you listed happens to Dak this season he’ll still be signed for over $50 million AAV with some team. It’s not like teams think the Cowboys have worked hard this off season to surround Dak with a stronger team. The guy is going to be paid a lot of money to play quarterback for an NFL team beyond 2024. Most likely the Dallas Cowboys.

If Trey Lance can have a "high performance" preseason, Dak's leverage will be gone. All Dak can do to regain that leverage is win a Lombardi trophy.
How does Lance turning out to be a great quarterback make Dak worth any less to another team? And if Lance turns out to be the starter over Dak, he’s a free agent after this season, too. He’ll want even more than Dak signs for.

Agreed. The WCO is all about timing. Lance gets that down, and its his team to lose in 2025.

I sure wish one of them would make Dak & his agent aware of this so that Dak would ask to be traded to said team.

Also, I'm curious which teams you think have the interest and\or the circumstances to sign him to a contract of that magnitude.
Panthers if what's his name doesn't workout
Tampa
Pittsburg
Rams if Stafford retires
Saints, maybe
Seattle if what's his name regressed again
Raiders
Patriots maybe
Titans

You may hate Dak, but this league is QB hungry and willing to take chances. Whether you want to let your emotions and anger talk and say he sucks, the league sees him as a top 10 QB and the league knows Jerry Jones sucks as a GM. That's why you see QBs get over drafted (i.e. Lannce) because everybody thinks they can make it happen if they have a good enough QB.

Wow. Just wow.

Sounds like your wishful thinking.

LOL.

Really...how many QBs have had high performance pre season? Do all of them give the owner leverage?

Man you have no clue about how NFL works. Zero clue.

All that leverage will be questioned if/when he loses
bigly to SF for the 5th time in 4 years. It will shatter completely once the playoffs begin.
(Prediction: losing this time to Kirk Cousins/Atlanta)

Hey, I'd love to see the ol' after school special-type story
where Dak Prescott finally overcomes the odds and makes it to an NFC Championship Game (probably still lose to SF or GB) but history shows that this will not happen.

It's plausible that some team will back up the Brinks truck for the one-time MVP runner-up, Stats Prescott. Hopefully, it won't be Dallas. We've seen enough.

Shefter isn’t saying anything that is not said on this board 100 times a day. He just gets paid to say it.

Dak only has leverage if Jerry wants to keep him. I’ve said this before. In any relationship (romantic, business, siblings, friends, etc) the person with the most power is the one that can leave the relationship first.

Jerry looked pretty crushed after the GB loss. If that loss convinced Jerry this current team can’t get over the hump then Dak has no leverage. The big 3 contracts going into the offseason of Dak, CD and Micah have not been addressed. If Jerry has lost faith in those guys due to their playoff performances then none of them have leverage.

Is it possible for the Cowboys to have handled the 'Dak Prescott contract situation' any worse than they have the last 5 years???
I don’t understand how anyone can defend Jerry or the Jones family after watching them handle the Prescott contract situation. Amateur doesn’t quite cut it here. This is a master class on how not to be a GM.

I actually hope Lance looks great in the preseason. Dak need to be pushed. If things don't work out for Dak then we can go ahead and lean on Lance and see what happens.
Nothing bad happens when a player develops and plays well.
