I thought Alvin Harper was going to save our season during his second stint with the club in 1999. :(

Wow. I just had to look this up because I wasn't aware he had a 2nd stint with us.

I remember him saying he wanted to come back because he thought our receivers were so bad, but I thought he failed at that. And I thought that took place around 2001-2002 timeframe, not 1999.

Hmmm....

I thought Steve Welch was the savior, not Aikman. That didn't last too long ;-)

I must say, I never thought that Henson was worth a damn and I couldn't understand why people liked him. Oh well, truth is, I'm way more wrong about this sort of thing that right.

Me too. I was sooooo excited when I got a Bledsoe Jersey as a gift.

THought Bobby Carpenter was the second coming of Brian Urlacher.

Thought Roy E. Williams was going to be as great as Darren Woodson and be a Cowboy for 10-12 years.

Off of the top of my head...

I thought the Brad Johnson pick up was a good one. Wrong.

I bought the Henson hype. Wrong.

I loved the Bobby Carpenter pick...defended him for two and a half years. Pretty sure I was wrong there too.

I didn't like the Felix Jones pick. Wrong.

...one that I hope I'm wrong about....Roy Williams. I'm still of the belief that we got the wrong guy, and that we gave up entirely too much to get him. I REALLY hope I'm wrong about that one.

I wanna apologize to you for that and offer to pay you back.

Can I interest you in some Andrew Hawkins hype? He is potentially the next Danny Amendola.

lmao....I'm afraid my heart still belongs to Danny. :(:

I haven't been watching the 4th and long show, so I'm not up to date with the Hawkins hype. I'll have to catch up. :D

I hope you're kidding/ You mean when he walked away in 1999 and Dallas went with Rocket instead?

I thought Robert Thomas, the converted linebacker, was going to be outstanding as a blocking fullback.

I thought Billy Davis was going to be the diamond in the rough steal as a starting wideout, he dropped loads of catchable balls but he had talent, started in 1998 and wasn't on the roster in 1999. I think the Dennis Rodman platinum hair and barbed wire tattoo alienated me from him though.

I thought Marco Rivera was going to be a stud in Dallas.

I thought Kelvin Garmon was going to be steal as a guard and not just a lack of options starter.

I thought Jason Tucker was going to step up and be a deep threat (kinda like miles Austin today).

You have seriously echoed several of my sentiments that I haven't been able to dig up through my shot memory bank.

I thought Wayne McGarity was going to be a solid 2nd receiving option. Stupid me.

Dont forget Stephret Williams and Macey Brooks, they were supposed to be saviors for the position as well.

McGarity was injury prone, otherwise i think he could've had a decent career as a number three receiver, like a Wes Welker or Kevin Williams.

For whatever reason Dallas just could not find a permanent solution to line up across from Irvin after Harper left and when they finally did, Irvin went down three games into 1999 and Rocket went from number two guy to number one and the Cowboy dynasty was over.

Oh... I almost forgot... I spent countless hours on the ESPN boards back when we traded for Galloway arguing with Skins fans about how our offense was going to be flat out amazing. Galloway and Ismail would stretch the defense out and Emmitt would have a field day.

:laugh2:

You may not have been far off. A healthy Galloway would've masked a lot of our warts. He is still a great WR, but had he not tore his knee up - he and Aikman would've been lethal.

I've always felt hindsight has been unkind to Billy Davis.

39 catches for 691 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns while starting 11 of 16 games wasn't too bad for a first time starter. Billy D was second on the team in receptions and yards to Michael Irvin (74 - 1057 - 1TD), but he had 2 more touchdowns, 1 more play of 40+ yards and trailed in 20+ yard plays by 3 (10 to 13) despite 35 fewer chances.

It ended up looking like a flash in the pan because we let Davis walk in free agency and upgraded with Rocket Ismail for the '99 campaign.

It would've been nice to have Davis on hand in '99 after Irvin went down for the count, Rocket had his 1000, but no one else eclipsed 500 yards.

Too bad the cap wouldn't allow it.

As for being wrong about players, there have obviously been scores of them over the years.

I've always regretted Torrin Tucker didn't have the mindset to succeed in the NFL. He had talent galore, even shutting Julius Peppers down in one game, but just couldn't keep his head in the game.

T Tuck nearly took Andre Gurode down the tube with him, Bill Parcells called the duo Sister Sledge. Tucker's departure allowed the light to come on and stay on for Gurode, he's been our starting center ever since.

I spent hours arguing we way overpaid, but most didn't want to hear it.
