Adrian Peterson threatening retirement

Well, I'll tell you this.... the people who are telling outright lies aren't winning. I have done nothing but provide facts to support my opinions. People are lying by saying I am making stuff up, but they can't point out a single thing I have presented as factual that isn't factually accurate.

Actually that answers my question. Thanks.

Actually, what I'm not doing is talking about the past and factors that cannot be altered. What's done is done. Good, bad, or otherwise.

Thanks for finally giving a solid answer. On all of these points, we agree. And I think Peterson agrees as well. And that's a big part of why he's looking for guarantees on the remaining dollars. I'll simply dismiss the rest of the sarcastic hyperbole.

I think you just said yourself in the above statement that you didn't expect the Vikings not to try to rework his contract either. But now you're saying that the $45 million would have happened "with ease"? That seems contradicting. I don't disagree that most of this is Peterson's own doing, but it's my belief that the player and team were headed towards renegotiations anyway. The structure of the contract and bonus money supports that.

I don't think he's managed things as well as he could have, but I don't agree that it's "all about the money" to him. He's repeatedly mentioned location being a factor as well.

I didn't make a contradiction. Prior to the events of 2014 I figured Minny would have been more than happy to eventually work out some changes in his contract status. After his off the field issues and him showing himself to be a big baby their attitude has now changed. What should have been an easy process got all mucked up due to Peterson over the last year.

Peterson has not repeatedly mentioned location being a factor. There have been rumors and speak from his agents, but pretty much anytime Peterson actually talks it is about money.

Keep hope alive! Keep hope alive! Keep hope alive!

lol.

I love NFL reports with highlight clips attached. You can practically predict how often Dallas will be one of the teams included in the bunch, regardless of a particular report's subject matter.

There are 32 teams, with four teams per division. Peterson plays for Minnesota, which shares the NFC North with Green Bay, Detroit, and Chicago. In this instance, the report could showcase Peterson running against any of 31 other teams, giving a taste of what he has done versus the league. Or it could focus on what Peterson has done against the rest of the NFC North. Or it could be a mixture of both.

It's a mixture alright. The report contains seven highlights, four showing Green Bay and Detroit twice and one of Washington.

That's five out of seven. Which teams make up the final two highlights? There are 28 more to choose from. Is one of two remaining highlights showing Peterson running against Chicago? Nope. They're in the Peterson's division. Who cares? That leaves 27 other teams. Which team will be picked for the last two highlights?

Wait. What am I thinking? The last two highlights show Peterson running against Dallas. Surprise. heh. I bet even Bears fans aren't surprised when they see the report. That expectation probably fuels show degree of the dislike for Dallas. If true, I can understand and even sympathize with it but the Cowboys do not create the idiocy. The media does.

Doesn't look like he wants out of Minnesota that bad?

After long absence, Adrian Peterson rejoins Vikings

Peterson, the 2012 NFL MVP, told multiple outlets that he will join the team for their organized team activities on Tuesday.

“I've been away from the game for an entire season,” Peterson told the Associated Press. “I wanted the chance to be around the players and coaches, the guys that really matter to me.”

It’s the first time the All-Pro running back has been back with his teammates since last September, when he was indicted for child abuse for disciplining his young son with a switch
__________

After all that, Peterson says he just wants to get back on the field.

“I understand this is a business. Clearly there were a lot of emotions involved, but I will only be better from the situation,” Peterson told the AP. “I have a role to play and the Vikings have one as well. It’s time to move forward and put my energy and focus on preparing for the season.”

Oh! So your point is that they would have given him some guaranteed money prior to this. Mine is that they would have tried to use leverage to bring his overall numbers down. I think they structured bonuses to have been paid by the time he was 30 so that they would have had plenty of leverage in what they viewed as an obvious renegotiation period.

Peterson has not repeatedly mentioned location being a factor. There have been rumors and speak from his agents, but pretty much anytime Peterson actually talks it is about money.

I've read differently in quotes from him.

Can't help but notice no one responded to my "what part of my statements are fabricated?" question.

Jus' sayin'.

I been saying all along that I thought there was very little chance that we'd go after Peterson.
Seemed like a silly fantasy to me.
It didn't make sense with how the team is now operating in general and
it didn't make sense based on his price and his age
it didn't make sense to get him given that they just let Murray walk and
it didn't make sense given the heavy pressure for them to balance the offensive and defensive spending.

But I also always said "never say never".

I hate to indulge any of the Peterson talk, but isn't his act wearing thin on anyone who actually still wants him?

He is acting like a petulant child. He has no leverage. None. And if this is true, he is now he is pulling the Favre-ish retirement card?

If it is not about money, he wants what, "love" from the front office who he feels turned their back on him when in essence he was the one who put himself in that position to begin with?

I really hope this is just his insane agent talking. And even if so, he could always fire him. I know I would. He is not casting himself in a good light right now, no matter who he ends up playing with.

Yep he talked of retirement which was the only card he could play and Minn called his bluff. He is now working out in OTA and Vikes are not going to guarantee him any of the remaining contract.

1 Major incentive for Peterson to play hard for Minn is making a bid to be a HOF'er. I know many claim him as a shoe in but fact is he is 28th on the all time rushing list. If retired from the game any hope of a the HOF would be gone.

Holding out was never a good plan IMO. He was just posturing like all vets do at some point.

It was always better to show up to everything and interact with the rest of the players.

If he gets injured in camp, MINN is on the hook for the full 13m.

I still believe he wants out of MINN, but the 13m is not a bad consolation prize.

As much as some people in here went crazy when it was reported he said he wanted to be a Cowboy, I think all Adrian Peterson wants it whatever will give Adrian Peterson the most money. I thought it was hilarious how people thought he would take ridiculously low deals just to play here. If the Vikes restructured him to $35 million in signing bonuses and guarantees, he'd be a happy Viking (for a couple years, that is).

He may not, but the Vikings do. ;)

If you mean they have backed themselves into paying 13m for a 30 yr old RB they tried to walk away from last year, yeah they won.

Next thing you know they will guarantee next year's 15m deal to really stick it to him.

This makes zero sense. If they didn't want him, they would cut him - or at the very least trade him for a draft pick.

They're not stuck with the guy. They're keeping him for the time being because they want to. And Peterson reported to camp with his tail tucked between his legs because he had no choice.

And he wanted to get his workout bonus.

All that shows to demonstrate is what people have failed to recognize around here.

It was about money. He wants more guaranteed money.

It was never ever about "he wants to be a Cowboy!".
