Adrian Peterson threatening retirement

And he has provided 12,000 yards and 91 TDs

Yep
and what has minn done?
Vikes reportedly sign Peterson for $40 million
Five-year contract would make rookie highest-paid running back in NFL
Vikings rookie Adrian Peterson will receive a $17 million signing bonus, the NFL Network reported.

and then when that deal was done what did they do? Adrian Peterson signed a 6 year, $86,280,000 contract with the Minnesota Vikings, including a $12,000,000 signing bonus, $36,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $14,380,000. once again keeping him the highest paid RB in the NFL

and who is still the highest paid? Yep AP

It is even. That is how good contracts work.

They are at a new crossroads now.

IF MINN honors the last 3 years, and that is a HUGE IF, then yes you could say they continued to treat him right. But stringing him along, while technically legal, is not the preferred method when dealing with superstars.

He was never asking for more money, just more than a verbal commitment that were going to keep him.

Not much of a cross road. Peterson has a choice, he can play he can sit but Minn is not going to redo his contract or guarantee him more money, that would be foolish on their part. He is a 30 year old RB and to tie up money they would be on the hook for outside of what they already are paying him would be beyond stupid. Many felt they were stupid to pay out the money they did to a RB but they did. I don't see where Minn is stringing him along, they have told him NO they are not doing it, they are not making promises. They paid out a large amount of guaranteed money up front, when he was injured the year they paid out that monster contract minn did not go to him and say now give us some back. Deals are 2 way street, not something that is to favor the player and to hell with the organization. AP says he is playing this season and he will get paid 13 mill, beyond that who knows

It's funny how some distance
Makes everything seem small!
And the fears that once controlled me
Can't get to me at all!
Let it go! Let it COUGH! HACK! WHEEZE!

I have never felt that MINN actually wanted him back, at least some high ranking execs.
I'm not getting to this conversation but I am wondering where this feeling came from. Did you read or hear this from somewhere or is it just a gut thingy. Mainly asking because I've read that from other members in here also but not anywhere else. Thanks.

It was from Peterson himself, his wife, his dad, his agent. Kevin Warren was specifically mentioned.

So reading thru those I didn't see anything, not one direct quote, from anyone in the Minnesota front office who said they did not want Peterson back. Forget the Peterson/Petrerson agent/mom/dad/paperboy/mailman or anyone else quotes what else are they going to say? In fact all I have ever read is Minnesota did want him back especially Zimmer. That is why I wondered where you got the feeling from.

Seriously?

After reading those articles you don't see where someone would get the impression that Peterson and his people don't trust the Vikings FO at all.

He feels betrayed by them and even names Kevin Warren, who has since gotten a promotion. If you think there is going to be a quote that publicly confirms Adrian's suspicions then I think you are being naive.

So... you "never felt that MINN actually wanted him back, at least some high ranking execs." because you got the "impression that Peterson and his people don't trust the Vikings FO at all."?

Yes I'm serious. I get that Peterson and his peeps don't trust/feel betrayed the Vikings. But I don't see why you said "I have never felt that MINN actually wanted him back, at least some high ranking execs" when I can't find any evidence to support that statement. Is it because of the way Peterson feels?

Bottom line is this:

If he didn't want the Vikings to control his rights in 2015, 2016 and 2017 (but without guaranteeing that they will keep him those years) then he shouldn't have signed the deal he did.

All winter and spring everyone here talked about what a bad idea it was to pay our 27 year old, league leading, record breaking RB over 6m a year.

But now we are supposed to believe that MINN thinks it a good idea to pay their 30 year old, PR nightmare, disgruntled and suspicious RB 13m a year.

When I see an athlete and his people publicly say the things he has said this offseason, it doesn't take me long to assume their is some serious bad blood. When the team does absolutely nothing to accommodate said athlete, I tend to believe some of what he said is true. When they promote the one guy that was called out by name it seals the deal.

I don't think one has anything to do with the other. 2 different teams, 2 different ways of doing business, 2 different players.

Everyone here throwing out their opinions means absolutely bupkis. It's a fan forum not the internal Dallas Cowboys communication network. Our opinions have no sway over how the Minnesota Vikings (or for that matter the Dallas Cowboys) run their business.
