The Sixth Sense isnt good. I dont know why anyone thinks it is.

Great story, excellent acting, well directed, good dialogue, memorable quotes, and one of the best surprise endings ever, yet it doesn't lose anything in repeat viewings.

Nope, I have no idea why people like it.

Luckily for AFI :) , The Matrix made their 100 Movies 100 Thrills list at #66. Here's the complete list ( LINK ):

1. PSYCHO 1960
2. JAWS 1975
3. THE EXORCIST 1973
4. NORTH BY NORTHWEST 1959
5. THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS 1991
6. ALIEN 1979
7. THE BIRDS 1963
8. THE FRENCH CONNECTION 1971
9. ROSEMARY'S BABY 1968
10. RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK 1981
25. TITANIC 1997

This gets me. Titanic is listed as #25. As one of the all time greatest thrillers.

Tell me, who didn't know the ending going into this movie? SUPRISE! THE TITANIC SINKS!!!

True, but that was when he first started so we didn't know it, then.

Sixth Sense was great. I love comic book heroes so I loved Unbreakable. Signs was hilarious and works on so many levels.

After that . . . The Village was okay and without the great soundtrack by that 15 year old violinist would have been even less. Lady In The Water was the first of his I missed in theaters (and have yet to see it on video/DVD).

By the way, that's one of the more interesting spellings of his name I've seen. :laugh2:

The top 50 of that list is total crap. Maybe 3 or 4 decent movies total. 50-100 has infinitely better films than 1-50. And there's a ton of those that are crap as well. AFI sucks.

I'm not even going to comment on the Wizard of Oz being so high on a thrill list.

I am as confused as anyone as to what criteria AFI used on the 100 Thrills list.

I think that AFI's list isn't "top guy films" - they probably have a ton of women on the panel as well.

I'm not certain of the gender makup, but AFI convenes a panel of 13 AFI members for each movie list category. The panel nominates 300-400 movies which (they believe) are the best of that particular category. Those movies are placed on a ballot, which is then mailed to a 'jury' of 1,500+ directors, screenwriters, actors, editors, cinematographers, critics and historians. It is the jury which selects the 100 'best' out of the 300 - 400 nominated films.

I'd like to see their definition of "thrill" then. I don't see where The Wizard of Oz falls into that category, in any way. I'm not saying any of these movies are bad, just that they don't seem to fit the criteria of that list in my eyes.

You really going to try and tell me that Silence of the Lambs, Unforgiven and the Sixth Sense, to name a few, are better movies then the Matrix? That is laughable, the last 2 Matrix movies left a bad taste in a lot peoples mouths but the original was an excellent movie.
Silence of The Lambs and Unforgiven most definately. Sixth Sense, no. But then it shouldn't be on the list either.

Blood Daimond is a pretty darn good flick. I'm not gonna lie, DiCaprio has become a very convincing actor...if you would've said that to me ten years ago I would've sharted. It doesn't hurt that Jennifer Connelly is so easy on the eyes either.

Flags wasn't bad...it wasn't what I expected. Thoughtful, but kind of ambiguous for the viewer. Worth watching though IMO. I'd like to see the sister flick Letters from Iwo Jima.

Speaking of DiCaprio, Scorsese's The Departed was outstanding IMO. If you can get past the canoli eating prerequisite gangster stereotype, I think you'll find that this movie deserves a position on the podium for Mob movies.

My top movies would depend on the day and what I was in the mood for at the time. However, I'm pretty sure that none of my top 10 would be on that AFI list.
