After 3 years it's Tyron over Watt

Watt is the better player, but give me the Pro Bowl Left Tackle over the Hall of Fame 3-4 End any day of the week

A pro bowler over a hall of famer? Don't get that logic but Tyron was a good pick. Watt wouldve been a great pick. But hindsight is 20/20. I wanted Tyron over watt at the time.

I think when this is said and done, I'd take Tyron. Dude has shown a lot so far and I think he could still get even better.

As well as Smith is playing, I would still take Watt over him.

A disruptive DL like him in our old 3-4 with Ware a season or two ago? Forget it.

No, both are great picks. The point is that, generally speaking, a LT is worth a great deal more than a DE.

A LT is an absolute necessity, but just because you have a stud left tackle does not mean your QB has complete security.

I prefer the DL mainly because they have mobility, can be moved around and have to be accounted for each down.

Just a preference. A great player is a great player. Worth is relative.

I don't believe Watt is the better player. Initially, sure but not now. The difference is Smith plays a position where when he dominates you don't hear about it on a snap by snap basis. If you did, his name would be called constantly.

Smith over Watt all day for me.

Ditto for me.

wish we had both. but you have to consider the needs at the time of a pick and lt was a much bigger need. way to early to talk HIF but i would say both have about the same chance of that. smith is so young that he could have a dozen or more pro bowls and be a shoo in. watt is a great player but he won't have the longevity because of the wear on his body and the position is very stat driven

You couldn't go wrong either way.
I'm just happy they chose one of the two.
Nothing is a given anymore...

If it's close, you have to favor the OLineman, IMO. Bad plays by a DL just lose games at worst case. One bad play by an OL, especially LT, can get your QB killed.

They really need to continue to invest in the OL this off-season even though everybody is calling for DL. They can't afford to take chances with Romo's health. They can't be 1 injury away from Phil Costa starting at Guard or having to move Fred to Guard with Costa at Center.

So we should just draft more centers because we are dumb enough to keep Costa? The same Costa that our GM "loved" a year ago?

I do not want to stand pat on the interior OL either, but there has to be priorities. The DL is an utter wasteland.

Maybe LTs get paid more. But watt would be our best player on the team. It's basically a toss up.

I look at it like this; knowing what we know now about the two players, who would you take? I think watt would have a huge impact. But Tyron was the safe pick and I was onboard with it bc it was a huge need.

Smith over Watt all day for me.

Just 23 years old.

Already 2nd team all-american.

He has Hall of Fame talent. Just like JJ.

Couldn't have gone wrong either way but i'm glad they went O-line.

Such an important position. I think if we know what we know now and they were to be drafted there would be a healthy debate. Watt probably goes first . But he shouldn't.

You really want to build for both 2014 and 2015. The probability of everything coming together in 2015 is higher than the probability of filling all of the talent holes before 2014.

If Romo gets injured and can't play anymore, your probability of winning in 2014 or 2015 is near zero. You can't sell out trying to plug holes in 2014 at the expense of Romo's health.

He is already injured. You cannot run a draft to benefit one player.

You draft with the best interests of the franchise ahead for the next four-five years. To me, that means you begin worrying less about how to make things Romo-friendly but make it where it is actually winning games-friendly.

He got hurt this year with a great O-line on a freak play where he just rolled out funny. I don't agree that a great O-line will guarantee no injuries and an awful line will guarantee injuries. And we missed the playoffs the last 4 years more so because of the defense than the O-line. Eventually you have to take a chance and get D-line help instead of spending high picks on O-line depth to ensure Romo's health.

But Smith is the best player on the team.

Yep, but i would give the edge to watt as best player at their respective positions. But LTs are more valuable. But I believe watt is a difference maker. I was pro tyron back then but Knowing what I know now, I might take watt. Idk tho, I think Tyron will have a very long career here in Dallas. He's still young.
