Yep, but i would give the edge to watt as best player at their respective positions. But LTs are more valuable. But I believe watt is a difference maker. I was pro tyron back then but Knowing what I know now, I might take watt. Idk tho, I think Tyron will have a very long career here in Dallas. He's still young.

Yeah, Watt's great. He was the best player in the NFL last year and the best defensive player in the NFL this year.

He got hurt this year with a great O-line on a freak play where he just rolled out funny. I don't agree that a great O-line will guarantee no injuries and an awful line will guarantee injuries. And we missed the playoffs the last 4 years more so because of the defense than the O-line. Eventually you have to take a chance and get D-line help instead of spending high picks on O-line depth to ensure Romo's health.

The NFL and sports in general are not about guarantees. I don't know why people can't understand that concept.

It's about probabilities.

The Cowboys have to give themselves the best possible probability of keeping Romo healthy. You can't just look at the 1 play where Romo got injured. Back injures are likely from past hits. Does the 1000th straw break the Camel's back with the other 999 having no bearing on the situation?

It's not as if there aren't 10+ OLinemen in the draft that would not only improve the depth of the OL, but would be upgrades to Bernadeau or Free.

They're going to address the DLine in the draft and/or free agency. They don't have to completely ignore the OL to do it. The Cowboys are not a team that is in a situation to try to good all-in to win in 2014.

As well as Smith is playing, I would still take Watt over him.

A disruptive DL like him in our old 3-4 with Ware a season or two ago? Forget it.

We had a terrible O-Line before Tyron as well. Either way you look at it, we'd be severely lacking on one side of the trenches. At least we did have a solid player in Ware when Tyron was selected.

After three years I am still happy with the pick, just like I was year one, and yes I think JJ Watt is a great player.

He is already injured. You cannot run a draft to benefit one player.

You draft with the best interests of the franchise ahead for the next four-five years. To me, that means you begin worrying less about how to make things Romo-friendly but make it where it is actually winning games-friendly.

They've already made the money commitment to Romo. If he can't play, then they need a complete rebuild and specific needs are even less of an issue. If there are in complete rebuild more, then you don't go into the draft saying, "I've got to get DL".

But the probabilities show that even with a healthy Romo, we missed the playoffs each of the last 4 seasons with a bad defense. Eventually you have to admit that the probability of making the playoffs without investing in the defense is very, very low.

If you ask GMs they will say they prefer a stud LT over a great dlineman but i will take the best defensive player in the league..

They have more than 1 draft pick and they can sign free agents. The difference between a great defense and a terrible defense is not going to be decided by whether or not they draft an OLineman.

I'd take Watt. Sorry Tyron who has been excellent.

JJ is special & he's so young. No telling what he'll do if he stays healthy.

Both are good players. Cowboys did well and so did the Texans. I would have been happy with either. Not sure where to go with this comparison. Just not finding any relevance in comparing the two. I guess it is like having a winning lottery ticket for $1M versus $1.15M. Just be happy with either of the two.

Just because they made the mistake of overcommitting to Romo, they need to get out of this mindset that the team lives and dies by him.

That goes down from how we draft to how the plays are called.

Lol @ calling watt a HOFer already.

Not what I said "Lol"

What I said was even if Watt may be the better player, it is more valuable for teams to have a top tier left tackle than an elite 3-4 end.

Tyron Smith just turned 23. He should be a staple in our offensive line for the next 10 years barring injuries.

I love the pick...not sure if there's anyone else in that draft that I would have rather taken in hindsight. Robert Quinn, Watt, and Richard Sherman are all choices to consider, Von Miller and Aldon Smith have too many issues...but if there was a re-draft...I'd still want Tyron.

I also agree that as good as watt is now I would take a pro bowl left tackle anytime. watt will have a great five year run then after that he will wear down unlike a offensive tackle can play a solid ten years before he starts to wear down.

Watt only had 10.5 sacks this year and 4 FF. Jason Hatcher had 11 and 2.

Watt: March 22, 1989
Tyron: December 12, 1990

That's the difference in my mind.

I am happy with Smith. I would have been happy with Watt had Dallas drafted him. Both are good players and will be for years. Dallas had a bigger need for an elite tackle at the time.
