After 5 Games, How Confident Are You in Garrett?

I was curious at the beginning of the season how confident fans were in Garrett. I took somewhat of a poll to sense where we are at and the feedback ranged widely. At this point, we're 2-3, and even if we win tomorrow, we're on pace for another 8-8 division.

The sad thing is 8-8 could win this division.

At this point in his 3rd season, what is your confidence level in Jason Garrett?

You ask this question all the time. The people that never liked the hire like me are going to have the same answer, which is not much. The people waving pom poms are going to gonna say it's a process. Same ole, same ole.

I don't think anyone's answer will be different than the last time you asked.

Very little confidence. Far too much risky passing plays in the red zone when a running game would have been best.

I like what he is doing to build the team but as far as coaching, nothing has changed (i.e.: he can't)

My answer has changed. I was confident in him but now not at all. I see a guy who hesitates on throwing a challenge flag because he is scared of losing a timeout. In Strums article he talks about 2 different game plans for home and away and basically to me it says he is scared to unleash this offense and let them play to their strengths. I'm starting to see a pattern that this guy is a scared coach he lacks confidence and it's showing. If I was the owner and it's starting to come out that the coach I hired would rather play conservative and scared on the road and it's costing my team games I would look to replace him. Zero confidence in this guy

There is a rhyme to the reason.

For the record, I'm at around a 2. I hoped to see him more involved in the Broncos in-game calling, etc. Basically, he wears a head set and looks like he's doing something. I wish we had a coach who was thinking 2-3 plays ahead... like a Cowher or Gruden, Payton. It's just such a waste to have as much talent as we have and watch it underperform because the only part your coach gets about the game is Xs and Os.

And I think he did blow it at the end of the Broncos game. If Parcells were coaching those last 2 minutes, we win that game.

You guys don't think he could have done anything differently in the Broncos game?

This is sad really. Some fans are blinded so much by emotion that they will not ever admit that any of the Cowboys are not good, including the coach. I wish Garrett could change my mind. I honestly gave him a chance and supported him until he showed that he was not ready for the position. This is year three of a three year plan. How many more 8-8 seasons before fans wake up?

I'm okay with Garrett so far.
Not elated by any means, but I do like that for the 1st tome he will be focusing more on the entire operation.

In other words, talk to me at the end of the season and I may be able to give a more educated answer.

Love him. Thanks for checking in again.

Love on a scale of 1-10?

As I stated in the first thread, the purpose of having more than one is to gauge his progress in confidence throughout the season, since it is a process and all.

They're still a .500 team.

I suppose, if any confidence were to wane, it would be in his ability to turn the team into a perennial playoff contender.

If we win tomorrow, we're a .500 team. That's "if" (I think we can). I still don't see how he serves us better than any number of decent coaches out there. What does he bring that others wouldn't? I've yet to see that.

What I have seen is that he isn't prepared, himself, in games where having an experienced, prepared coach can be the difference in a win or loss. He's not thinking ahead, he's not trying to eliminate potential mistakes before they happen and he's definitely not running the ball with any consistency, which has been a problem for a long time.

I think that chances are, better than not, he won't be coaching in Dallas next year.
