After 5 Games, How Confident Are You in Garrett?

You have got to wonder why we are not one of those 'bust-out teams'. Every year we lose to some team that eventually stands out and gets over the hump to their mediocrity, but never us. San Francisco, Seattle, and now Kansas City. I like Garrett's drafting process because we are stacked with talent, but the team never has the discipline for BOTH sides of the ball to play well together except on rare occasion like the Rams game.

Honestly, I could see Garrett being better in a GM, talent evaluating role than anything. He's too inexperienced as a coach in the NFL, but he seems to know how to get talent.

I talked about his ability to get talent too. But we have to be careful with these analogies. We have no idea to what extent he's responsible for our "talent". Not to mention, it bears asking, how talented we really are at .500?

I don't think there's a coach in this league that wouldn't want to have a team with Romo, Witten, Dez Bryant, and even guys like Austin, Harris and Beasley. Murray is a strong runner and we have a solid O-line now. The problem with this team is consistency and we've never really been able to get both sides to play well consistently. One game the defense looks outstanding and the offense looks awful and then we have our last game where the offense is lights out, but the defense gets shredded.

Garrett has a great analytical mind and ever since he's came here, it's obvious he's been exerting more influence on the draft process since there are a lot less head-scratchers. The problem is, Garrett never had time to grow into a coaching role. You don't put a guy with no coaching experience as a OC for a few years and then shove him into the HC role. Garrett simply doesn't have the technical knowledge to be an on-field general. That's something you only get through experience, and getting that experience in the NFL is not the best place to do it because you don't have much room for error. Where I do believe Garrett would be a lot more successful is if he was in a Tomlin-esque role where he is hands off and lets his coordinators do everything. If we can get a top notch OC who implements his own offensive scheme and fully runs the offense instead of trying to work within the confines of the Garrett system and we just let Garrett step back and oversee, we'd be a lot better.

Honestly I believe if he has a losing year they will fire him.

If we don't make the playoffs and win a game, I think they will fire him, especially in a season when the Giants begin at 0-6. You don't get a gift horse like that every year. And when you do, you don't look him in the mouth.

Head coaches are viewed through the prism of wins in professional sports. Be it fair or not, that is the standard by which we judge how good a head coach is.

Since being named the head coach, Garrett is officially sub .500 and this is year 3 of his administration.

How many head coaches in the NFL that are sub .500 after being on the job 3 years are given contract extensions? Unless they got some serious skins on the wall, not many. So this all boils down to the fact that Garrett has to start showing signs that his program is headed in the right direction and the only way to do that is with wins on the field.

Jerry in the offseason mentioned that he needed to see "tangible signs of success" from the team this year. That was about as obvious as Jerry gets at telling everybody that Garrett better win some games this year. Now Garrett may have lucked out with the NFC East being horrible this year. I mean, an 8-8 record probably will win this division and thus save Garrett from getting fired. However, if we manage to lose this division and are 8-8 or worse, there is no coming back from that for Garrett.

Cliff Notes Version.....................If Garrett does not start winning and winning soon, he will be gone and it really doesnt matter how much faith anybody has in him. The scoreboard does not lie.

I don't disagree with any of this. And I think the team needs to perform this season. And I expect it's going to.

The NFL is about wins. If Garrett can't win, he'll be let go. But he's right that it *has* been a process. And we had significant work to do from the point he took over to the point we're at now. Not all 8-8 seasons are equal; this team has gotten better over the last three years.

The Garrett supporters keep saying that the team is much better this year and that things are different. No, things are the same until this team has more wins. If they win the NFCE with an 8-8 record, the team is still the same. Other teams will have lowered their play and that is not the improvement that counts.

We'll let this year play out, and see. Despite the records being the same, the teams in 2011 and 2012 were very different. I don't think that 2011 team, with a similar schedule and the same injuries, would have finished anywhere near 500. And I think this year's team looks better than last years does. If that doesn't turn out to be the case, we'll probably have a new HC, and I'll try to get behind that guy and whatever direction that brings.

But, again, the problem with this team is with our porous pass defense, and not with the HC. It's the HC's job to address that, which he's at least aggressively tried to do. But put me in the camp of addressing obvious weaknesses instead of changing the guy at the top--assuming the organization likes him as much as they seem to like him--just because some fans are impatient about how long it's taking to build the team into a contender.

I think Garrett can get the job done if he had good enough talent which to be honest he doesn't have here. The O might be decent enough to make some noise but the D is terrible and will remain terrible until we put some resourses into the line

I am confident in Garrett but not this year, not this roster

I have no faith in him as a head coach or OC but I do believe he has an eye for talent and could be good in the front office or maybe as a scout.

Assistant GM in charge of player personnel, puts a thought process in place (RKG), gets rid of the chaf, but keep him away from coaching....is that too much to ask?

I like the changes made this offseason. The team is still a work in progress. They should finish strong vs collapsing like a year ago. I'm at a 7 until further notice.

If Garrett can bring in a new training staff to keep players actually, you know, playing, then he is employee of the year...add that to my list of job titles (again, not coach)

Have been antiGarrett for a long time. However, have no reason to hate on him yet this year.

I actually like him a bit now. Hasnot been as robotic.

I feel he has helped change our roster into a better one, but I haven't gotten the feeling that he has outcoached the other side of the field since those back to back Philly games when he was our OC. If he isn't giving us an advantage, than he is going to be no better than a .500 coach. I hate to move on though because with Jerry at the helm, we probably won't get any better and we'll start drafting athletes who can't play football again.

Jones essentially MADE Garrett what he is today. He made him our OC and then he made him our HC. Imagine, if Wade Wilson was promoted from QB's coach (Bears) to our OC in 2007 instead, and was actually now our HC just like Garrett. Scary huh? Basically, that's how I feel about Garrett's rise in Dallas. I never wanted the guy here and our consecutive 8-8 seasons under his helm are not surprising to me. If we lose again today no matter how and fall to 2-4, I will blame Garrett.

I was curious at the beginning of the season how confident fans were in Garrett. I took somewhat of a poll to sense where we are at and the feedback ranged widely. At this point, we're 2-3, and even if we win tomorrow, we're on pace for another 8-8 division.

The sad thing is 8-8 could win this division.

At this point in his 3rd season, what is your confidence level in Jason Garrett?

I am not interested.
No backing' into a title.
