After the season is over I dont think anyone will argue on Merriman

Also: while we are whipping ourselves to death for our punishment for our huge mistake of taking someone who may or may not be as great as another player, do we need to break out the whips for the self-flagellation a second time for the Lawson decision, or can we get credit for both when we accept our punishment? Do we need to a third one for the Ellis/Moss crime against humanity? And what about the whining that we need to do for the BIGGEST DRAFT MISTAKE EVAR!

I like Flav, he makes me laugh.

These threads sometimes make me laugh.

Or...just consider it some crazy random drive by pic posting that has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

And here I thought you were just calling Merriman the Flava of the month.

the texans had 6-7 blocking most downs.

and when they didnt carr did a three step drop and threw a pick to henry.

Carr had his worst game against us.

And we didnt blitz like EVERY SINGLE Team did before. carr can handle the blitz and WILL Beat you on the blitz. he has seen enough pressure in his day.

he couldnt handle the coverage.

indianapolis got 4 sacks. miami got 5. miami lost and indianapolis had to come back to win. and gave up 3 touchdown passes to carr. who would have won if he had a running game against indianapolis.

we got zero sacks but carr had his worst game. i think the defensive gameplane matchedu p well with the offensive gameplan/
you want to leave 6-7 guys blocking.
fine we will send 4 and have 7 guys covering your 3 or 4 options. good luck with that.

are you saying thats what the Texans did? because you know you are wrong if you are saying that. the texans did not just have Moulds and Johnson running routes and have 9 men blocking lmao

Your right they sent a Te, or a RB on a littlw wheel route.

OH yea did i mention that they refused to fo anything other thna 3 step drops with quick slants, or a 5 step drop and a swing pass to the RB?

You can whine about s not getting any sacks, but the TExans were dead set on not allowing us to get to Carr. And when teams do that it usually opens things up for our defense to make plays on the ball (2 INT's and a FF in the second half, 4 Offensive possieions (i think) in the entire second half)

ok i think we can all agree on this... merriman is definatly a better pass rusher, but ware is better in pass coverage.

I still don't see why we have to say that Merriman is definitively a better pass rusher. He had the benefit of playing the Raiders which gave him 3 easy sacks. Ware has played teams that are smart enough to block with an OT.

good post. the beauty of logic and what happens when coaches "gameplan" to win.

he's at 5.5 sacks now compared to 2 sacks for ware...and will probably hit 12 or 13...ware probably will be right around 8 again...i dont think there will be any argument that we should have drafted merriman..he is a beast...teams are worried about him and they account for him like they do for roy williams...just think if we had two players like that on our team! bad move jerrah...should have drafted the better passrusher...he is a game changer while ware is just a good player...merriman will be great if he is not already...and i dont want to hear about this zimmer bend but dont break defense...i see ware rushing ALOT AND HE JUST CANT GET THERE...BOTTOM LINE

Great post.....don't get me wrong, I like Ware a lot but Merriman is in a whole different league. This guy is a complete football player and it's scary how in just his 2nd season he's one of the top 5 defensive players in the league.

Just think how dominant our defense would be right now if we would have drafted Merriman last year, Manny Lawson this year and signed Dwight Smith to play FS.

It would probably look a lot like it does now.

with that being said about sending 4. i still feel like we need more pressure.

I agree with some of the people that we need more pressure and sacks.

But I also see that we had a good gameplan too.

we need to sack eli. big time.

I have watch most of the Chargers games and all the Boys games. The way the Chargers use Merriman gives him an advantage over Ware in terms of opportunities to produce sacks. Oftentimes Ware is in coverage and making plays downfield when Merriman is rushing the passer 90% of the time. The Chargers move Merriman all around the line of scrimmage and Ware usually lines up on the same side. Merriman is a little bigger and stronger, but Ware is faster and more athletic. In coverage, Ware can do things that Merriman can only dream about like chasing down Brian Westbrook. I said it on draft day and I 'll say it again. Apples and oranges, hamburgers and hotdogs! It just depends on what a team prefers. Both will be pro bowl players, both will be among the NFL sack leaders, both will be a joy to watch, both will be forever linked together as who is better than the other!

Merriman is a fantastic football player. Now having said that, Demarcus Ware is a much better ALL AROUND linebacker. Merriman is allowed to go after the qb on almost every play. The San Diego scheme allows him that freedom. He is however a liability versus the run, and on the rare occasion he is asked to drop into coverage, he is a liability there as well. Now, as a pure pass rusher, he might have an edge over Ware, but I'm not 100% certain on that because he's allowed to do it. Take away the one game vs. the Raiders and he has a whopping .5 sacks more than D. Ware. At some point this season, hopefully Monday night, Ware will have a huge game and the numbers will look very similar imo.

just my $0.02

HA

then how was Carr sacked 15 times in their first 4 games. what they decided "hey lets just block Dallas" gimmie a break. take off the ware glasses, he aint perfect and no where near the pass rusher as Merriman

When are y'all going to learn that this is a game of individuals?

It's all about flash, bling, and stats.

And Merriman has more, so he is better, DAWG! FEEL ME!

Um....because they didn't play a game full of max protect. They were tired of seeing Carr destroyed in four games and changed their game planning on us. Go them.

yeah we're 4 games into the season lets change everything.... sorry bro Houston is known for Carr getting ripped every game. this had to be the first time in a long time since Carr wasnt sacked once in a game and you know it.

MY hope is that by the end of the season, everyone will agree that "We should have drafted....." threads are lame. Call me Pollyanna, but.....
