Age Gaps

I guess it's just the eternal optimist in me but it would shock me if this current team did any worse than 9-7 and we haven't even drafted yet. I don't see the coaching as an impediment like many others do. I like what the FO is doing and that includes cutting Dez. Dez is showing his true colors now with his loud mouth. He's being the undisciplined person he's always been. Sorry I don't share your gloom and doom outlook. I'm a glass half full kind of guy. Life is just much better that way. You ought to try it, that anxiety you mentioned will melt away.
mr Joe---- you say you dont think this coaching is an impediment?...what was your thoughts during that three game stretch where cowboys could not score more than 10 points and it was the worst three game offensive stretch in cowboy history......and the coaching made little to no adjustment to scheme to counter act the poor performance....for me i lost much confidence in leadership and coaching at that point...and on top of it...for the coaching to allow Prescott to get anihilated and pummeled in Atlanta game was so egregious in my book that it will be difficult to come back from that as far as confidence in current coaching...i would like to hear your views on the subject matter i raised?..thank you for your consideration in this matter...signed ..GORICO

Trying going to school the next day, getting razzed by Steelers fans in the heart of "Steeler Country". It's amazing I stayed a Cowboys fan through that, but hardly surprising that I still hate the Steelers.
Yeah but the 1997 victory over the Squeelers was nice, yes, mate?

I agree 100% Tony and dez is as close as us guys in our 30s and younger ever got to greatness. They were absolute ballers. But sadly we have a lunatic running the asylum. The departure of d-ware. The refusal to find a way to keep a team that clicked in tact by keeping demarco Murray. The way this dez situation was handled. Losing romo. All those things hurt. Just like I did with romo, murray and ware I've spent many hours watching dez highlights since the news broke. It's hard to let go
I was born in 84 and even as kid I watched the cowboys win those superbowls with my dad. The people that watched those teams learned to get over, because we had to watch the greatest running back of all time wear a division rival cardinals jersey. Aikman get injured to the point of no return as well as Irvin. You'll see it's about the team not the players.

It's hard to have a team without the players though ;)

I totally agree. Trust me it was so hard to watch emmitt wear red and white. I was pissed at jerry for even releasing him. I grew up watching emmitt had his jerseys, posters, cards, etc. But at the end of the day I was still cheering for the cowboys on sundays. And remember we won super bowls on that dudes shoulders. We still got over it.

Yeah... I'm sure I'll be over it soon. Never having seen a game with Emmitt Troy or Irvin though dez Murray and dware and romo is all I had to look forward or back to. Heck I was pissed when they got rid of T.O as well. Though I came to grips with it eventually.

He feels like he was done wrong (he was). He was willing to take a pay-cut and stay on a team that was going to feature the run. Not to mention they waited so late in the free agency game to do it. Cmon no one likes everyone they work with. We showed him no respect

Yes, poor Dez. A WR in his coming 8th year that finally decided, with a new WR's coach, to learn to run crisp routes. A guy that called out Jerry during his contract negotiations, even though everyone in the press advised Jerry was waiting until several other teams set the price for WR that year, so Dez could get his. Dez hired crap agents who didn't do what needed to be done to keep Dez quiet. Instead he insults Jerry by telling the world he'll sit out if franchised. "Jerry doesn't know me, " he said.

Yet he still got paid. And don't even start to think his petulance had anything to do with getting paid.

Now I have no love lost for Jerry. And I liked Dez well enough, until this last year But let's be real. Dez' love of Dallas was when he was drafted. He then got paid, and didn't give the effort he should have. Part of this is because Dez is STUPID. People are afraid to say that, but it's the truth. He isn't smart and may not even be average in intelligence. He surely doesn't see the big picture ,of how he influences the team beyond his pass catching. He is not Irvin in any way. If he were then he would still be here leading this team, even with Dak and Zeke as what is presumed the leaders now. He would be the vocal leader who challenges the team to give their all.

But instead he runs sloppy routes, disappears in games, mouths off, and is not the guy he was (physically) when he was drafted.

Tony Romo was more instrumental in making Dez a top receiver than anything.

Tony is no longer here, and now neither is Dez.

I dunno, I fall in the millennial group, really not getting a great grasp for the X's and O's till the mid to late 90's.
Watched Irvin forced out due to that neck injury, saw Aikman and Smith cut. The triplets that solidified the Cowboys as my team.
While it sucked to know their playing days were over, it was what it was. While I have favorite players from time to time, I don't ever get super attached to anyone. Rooted for the Cowboys just as much when Quincy/Hutch were the "QBs" as when Aikman and Romo were the QBs. When we won 5 games or 13 games.

The only thing that irked me about the whole Dez drama was how negative posters got about him. Sure, his play dropped and it made sense that he wasn't worth his pay, but dang, some started to make him sound like he was a bum his entire tenure here.
I don't think that Dez was disliked by some solely because of dropped balls or sloppy routes.
Methinks Dez engendered the negativity because of his "volatility," i.e. tantrums, oversized sidelines drama and silly X-wrist exhibitions on days he chose to give it his all.
Blimey! What was worse than seeing a lackadaisical, out of it Dez when he was not the No. 1 target or we were way behind?
His shortcomings on the field were not solely the reason for his downfall.

The Cowboys made adjustments. That three-game skid was the Falcon, Eagles, and Charger, IIRC. Sometimes the other team is just better and that's what happen here. Elliott's suspension and the loss of Tyron Smith made this team inferior in those games. Coaching isn't going to make up for that much loss of talent on one side of the ball. You love the coaching when they are 13-3, so that same coaching staff was there during that three game skid. The difference was the lack of talent they put on the field not the coaching off the field.

Being able to remember the 70's, until now keeps me motivated that this franchise will find a way back to the Superbowl.

A drastic change like firing a Hall of Fame coach triggered the last period of dominance.
Losing a GM, or coach might be what this team needs.

mr Joe---but was it not the coaching that just sat there and allowed Dak to get pummelled in Atlanta game and Dak was clearly never the same afterward?...and also the O lineman Green...good chance his career could be done?...seems like coaching had everything to do with those issues?

mr Star--- I only have 4 words in response---"HOW BOUT DEM COWBOYS"

I've never had a problem getting over a player. Especially ones that don't help you win.

I said in another thread how if you’re younger (really like 30 and down) it’s going to be pretty hard to move on from people like Tony or Dez. It’s heartbreaking because they’re all we know.

.....

I'd like to offer some words of encouragement to those of you who are aged 30 and under and are struggling with this:

Let me encourage you to........ GET OFF MY LAWN! :D :oldcouple:

The coaching staff made adjustments. It's not at all like you are saying. It was a bad performance by a couple of players, not the coaches. And we are talking about only one game. It happens, it's no reason to throw the baby out with that bath water. Dak wasn't the same after that because be didn't have Tyron Smith guarding his blind side or Zeke to run the ball until the end of the season... as I've already stated.

Millennials, you'll get over it. I have no experience as a Cowboys fan to compare how you feel about Dez. The treatment Tom Landry received when Jerry Jones bought the team was disrespectful, but I kind of knew his days were numbered. The release of Emmitt Smith was painful but again, I kind of knew his days were numbered. Those are the two events that really affected me as a Cowboys fan but they still aren't the same as what you millennials are feeling with the Dez situation. I personally saw this thing coming from a mile away so I'm not shocked what-so-ever. But it seems this has caught some of you by surprise. I hope the coming season eases your feelings. Winning cures all.
I'd figured #88's departure was on the horizon, but I sure didn't see it going down this season,,, I guess my youthful exuberance continually expressed towards #9 stems from enjoying seeing him play, with Rodger Staubach a close second( Super Bowls notwithstanding) #8 at the helm was methodical ,his team was exciting to see dominate but for me, the single QB I enjoyed the most rootin' & pulling for was #9
( :lmao: man! I wanted to hate on #35 Calvin Hill when he rolled with the Skins towards the end of his career, but I couldn't cuz' I liked him to much)

:lmao:
You gotta admit that " George Jefferson " strut he was laying down along the sidelines a few years back in that game against Philly( I believe)
Was pretty hilarious:lmao2:

A few of us old-timers really, really liked Romo and Dez also.
