Maybe Aikman's coming to the realization that a Super Bowl for Romo might push Troy to No. 3 on the all-time Cowboys quarterback list.

"wait, so he beat all my records, and has a ring?...without emmitt smith?!"

whatever is exact wording used about "that play". It was definetly that play he was referring to and he 100% for sure said that "its likely Dallas loses....."

I just wanted to be clear...if he didnt say "if the right call was made", then he said "if they didnt pick that flag up".
but either way, that was the play being discussed and he positively used the words "its likely Dallas loses that game".

nothing special...but a few of his comments, written as he is saying them.

Its likely Dallas loses the Lions game if the right call was made.

-end.

I always hear people say he is only trying not to be biased, well I call that BS! I dont know why he has to go to ridiculous lengths so he doesnt come off as a homer!! I mean everyone will always know he was a Cowboy QB. not too mention he is wrong in his statement, noone knows what wouldve happened had that call stood.....and i mean noone.

What's funny is that fans of other teams (divisional rivals in particular) hate watching Aikman because they call him a homer.

If you go on Expected Win % from the computers, IIRC...it was greater than 50% for the Lions if they got the first down. So technically Aikman is correct.

I just find it funny because up until that point, the refs were bad in favor of the *Lions*. They took away a critical 3rd down conversion on a bogus offensive PI call on Williams and a TD from Murray on a bugs holding penalty on Witten.

Certainly, the refereeing was a big story in the game. But it definitely worked against the Cowboys. The difference was that the Cowboys were able to overcome it and the Lions weren't. That was the other part of the story of the game.

But it's Dallas, so we must cook up conspiracy theories and treat the call like it was the worst call ever and well...just make things up like 'I've never seen the make an announcement and then pick up the flag!' (happened last year in the Pats v. Carolina game, happened back in 2005 game against the Niners).

Just more of people that can't be objective and think on their own.

YR

Several articles I read stated that Detroit's win % with the PI penalty was 78% and 66% without it. I have also seen where a few officials have said that Holding, not PI was the call that should have been made. If you go off of Holding, they get 5 yards and a new set of downs. I have no idea what their win probability is with that call, but it would have to be more than 66%, but less than 78%. At any rate, Detroit still had a 66% probability after the "non call", and couldn't hold the lead.

No it won't. Troy is locked in at #2 with 3 Super Bowls. Roger is locked in at #1 forever.

Maybe.

But Troy was gawd awful during the years he had a lackluster team, while Romo carried his 4-12 roster to the playoff doorstep almost single-handedly.

And if it's about Super Bowl trophies, then Aikman is ahead of Staubach, right?

I was vaguely recalling that Aikman played in a Superbowl with a torn calf?

Am I recollecting that correctly?

No, he played with a pulled calf against the Packers in 1995. Threw for 316 yards and 2 touchdowns. Literally did not get hit in the game.

ahh, I appreciate the OP posting this. Like hearing Aikman's perspective. I don't believe for a moment he's biased against the Cowboys, maybe starting out broadcasting he went out of his way to seem objective. I don't know. His first comment about the Lions likely winning, just seems like his opinion (on NY radio I'd also mention), which he's entitled to.

Aikman can't do alot wrong in my eyes. In the biggest of spots, he was huge. 9 out of 15 career playoff starts he achieved a qb rating of over 100. 5 300 yard games in the playoffs, while only 13 times in 165 regular season starts. Mike Holmgren once walked out of a playoff losing locker room as the Packers head coach, to tell Aikman that he had "played the greatest game he'd ever seen a qb play." Holmgren got his start in pro coaching in San Francisco under Bill Walsh, I think he knew a few things about qb play.

I hope Tony Romo is at the start of a run here that changes the course of public opinion about him, because he is a terrific qb, but he is a long way away from being Aikman in a big spot.

I went to bed that Saturdat night expecting Wade Wilson to start. The fact that Troy was able to play, and very effectively at that, was a pleasant surprise.

You would definitely need to take into account the way the game has changed since then.

QB's were not protected.

For WR there was a lot more than hand checking going on - and all kinds of physical things were done to WR to keep them from getting into routes and when they were trying to catch the ball. They were also laid out for going over the middle, so a lot of players didnt do it or had a lot of dropped balls worrying about where the safety was.

Its really like comparing apples to oranges.

Aikman's better than Romo the same way Eli's better than Romo.

Football's the ultimate team sport. When your only argument is Super Bowl rings, you have no argument.

Aikman had told the offensive line that morning that he couldn't move, and they needed to keep the rush completely away.

The offensive line took him literally that day.

Romo always had WR's on those bad teams. Troy didn't in his later years. Romo had wheels to run, Troy didn't and was older. Troy played his best when his best was needed. Romo hasn't.
Look, I'm loving what Romo's doing for us now and would hate to bash his past during his finest season. Let's just leave it at that.
Roger was the greatest QB the Dallas Cowboys ever had.

Maybe.

Even in the 90's, I was never a huge Aikman fan. I should have been. He was the QB of my Dallas Cowboys, and he was an Oklahoma kid just like me. But he always seemed like such a sourpuss, while Emmitt was my hero and Irvin was so passionate and fun.

I don't have a problem with Aikman, and I think he's a good announcer and he's intelligent. I don't think he means to come off as anti-Cowboys. I do think he's trying hard not to seem biased so he goes the other way.

But as someone who has been a fan of the Cowboys since the days of Dorsett, Too Tall Jones, The Manster and Danny White, I can say I honestly 100% believe that Romo would have won 3 Super Bowls with that 90's team. Not saying one is better than the other. I'm saying that they are pretty equal in my eyes. And one is viewed as an all-time HOFer and one as a choke artist. Drives me crazy. Those 90's teams could never win without Emmitt, but they could win without Aikman.

I Don't believe we lose the game if the flag wasn't picked up, there was too much time left in the game. We may have had to score on the last possession but I think we would have still pulled it out. JMO

They probably kick FG and lose by 1

I generally defend Troy from the morons on here who think he hates the Cowboys, but that is a pretty darn irresponsible comment. First, what does "likely" mean? 90 percent chance? 51 percent chance? Second, Troy-- there were over eight minutes left. You played football to know that is an eternity. Third, it's not like Detroit was running the ball down our throat in the second half.

But Christ, it's Thursday already. MOVE ON!

Its likely Dallas loses the Lions game if the right call was made.

This week we probably will see the best 2 offensive lines in football

whoever is most effective running the ball will win this game

I had the same injury as Rodgers has. I was surprised at how effective I was in my first game after the injury, though I didnt rely on my legs. I think Rodgers will be fine because I think he will be able to move and slide in the pocket. He just wont be able to take off and run.

Dallas has been in playoff mode since Thanksgiving. They are at least as hot as any other team.

This is the best feeling I have had about this team since I retired.

I spoke with Jason Garrett earlier today as part of our pre-game preparation and he said this week's practices remind him an awful lot of the practices we had during our championship years...back when he was a teammate of mine.

-end.

"Its likely Dallas loses the Lions game if the right call was made." Ignorant by Aikman. Even if the PI penalty stood, we would have held them to a FG. And won 24-23.
