Aikman: "why do you throw that pass when Zeke just ran the ball for 8yds?"

That they did not have to pass because we could not stop the run wither. What in Rodgers stats for the first 3 and a half quarters shows you that we were stopping him-his attempts??

Actually, we held them to three points the whole third quarter, while we couldn't move the ball at all.

Their only other "defining" score in the fourth before that drive was a pick 6 on us.

If you think they weren't trying to score then with AR quarterbacking than, there really is no argument at this point..

We lost because we rushed three and gave Rodgers all day to throw..

Sure Rodgers is great but we can't just try not to score unless it's with 2 seconds left. That's just dumb.

Really?

We have an offense that has received the lion's share of the organizations recent blue chip draft picks (OL and RB). Conversely, our defense (a) has been an afterthought for years and (b) was was without it's one true play maker. The QB on the other sideline was Aaron *freaking* Rodgers, a future 1st ballot HoF'er who has led numerous game winning drives in his career (including one against us 9 months ago).

We had the ball 2 and 2 at the GB 11 with 1:24 left. GB was down to one timeout. At that moment we were in a position to dictate that the strongest part of our team would decide the outcome of the game. Win or lose, the contest would come come down our running game vs their clearly gassed D. Instead, we chose to throw a fade in the corner of the ez. If that works, Rodgers has over a minute and a timeout to work with. If it gets picked off the ballgame is over. Even if It falls incomplete, we have just handed GB a free timeout.

We lost because we allowed the game to come down to Aaron Rodgers vs a depleted, not very good to begin with defense. Anybody who follows the NFL at all knew how that was going to turn out.

Yep. I really thought we wouldn't attempt another pass unless we absolutely had to at that point. I guess I confused the staff's thinking with my own thinking.

Questionable play call proves costly vs. Packers; what Cowboys allowed that was unfathomable

By Matt Mosley

ARLINGTON -- Even in the euphoria of the Cowboys taking a 31-28 lead with just over a minute left in regulation, surely everyone who's followed Aaron Rodgers' career knew he had way too much time to lead the Packers to a win. And that's what he did in delivering a 35-31 win that dropped the Cowboys' record to 2-3. At least the Packers didn't wait until the postseason to cause such heartbreak this time around. Now, settle in for my weekly Hurry-up Column:

One thing you can fault the Cowboys for is throwing to the end zone on the play before the zone-read touchdown from Dak Prescott. It stopped the clock at a time when Ezekiel Elliott had become a one-man wrecking crew to the Packers' defense. To have any chance of stopping Rodgers, you needed to leave him 50 seconds or less and no timeouts. As crazy as it seems, you have to account for Rodgers' unique gifts when you're trying to score a touchdown late. I know you can't ask Prescott to fall down at the 1-yard line, but the throw to the end zone was a curious play at that point. As Troy Aikman pointed out on the FOX broadcast, you didn't want to push the gas with over a minute left. It wasn't egregious game-management, but you really need to be perfect when Rodgers or Tom Brady is on the other sideline.

Why would I enjoy that?

I just find with under 2 minutes left and down 4 people prioritizing wasting clock rather than trying to score baffles the mind.

The drive was a 17 play, 79 yard 8 minute and 43 second affair. And at the end you have to punch it in for a touchdown the hardest thing to do in football. You take the 7 when you can.

I understand being mad at the loss but being mad at a single play in a 17 yard drive that put the team up with 70 some seconds left is incredibly emotional and misguided.

For all we know the run the ball and score a TD and then I guarantee you someone would say that Zeke was an idiot for not downing himself at the 1.

Do you remember the Giants game to start the 2015 season? NY had a 3 point lead with ball at our 1 yd line with 1:43 left. On 3rd down, instead of just running the ball and either scoring or burning clock, Eli tried a play action pass and wound up throwing it out the back of the ez. NY kicks a fg to go up 6, but that free timeout left just enough time on the clock for Romo and co. to go down the field against a bad NY defense for the game winning td. Afterwards, the media roasted Coughlin and Eli for that play call...and they were right to do so.

We did something similar yesterday by not running the ball on 2nd and 2. Not forcing GB to burn that final timeout gave Rodgers the time he needed to beat us.

We lost because our coaches are low key deer on a range in clutch closing moments of games.

That play call was idiotic. We should be 4-1. But last two weeks we made just enough mistakes to find a way to lose.

Or the other team was good enough to overcome their mistakes and force Dallas into enough mistakes to lose.

I have seen the 4-1 comment, and sit in wonderment at how people seem to believe Dallas "should have" beaten the Rams. They ran all over the Dallas defense.

I might believe 3-2. But 4-1 is full of blue sky. The Rams handed Dallas their rear ends.

In case you didnt know, Linehan calls the plays.
...but JJ is the Head Coach. He ain't there for a 50yd line seat. He called Zeke out in the media 2 weeks ago....now he should call himself out. Sooner or later, the good players will see right through him.

Because of owner.....will not get a good Head Coach
Because of Head Coach....will not get a good Free Agent.

That is a completely different situation. NY was not trailing needing a touchdown. I even said you treat the situation differently if you're up 2 and only need a field goal to win.

Newsflash but scoring a touchdown is hard even in the red zone. We only do it 2 of every 3 trips. Nobody can afford to throw away a favorable look in those circumstances. Not the Cowboys. No one.

But please again reference the Giants game where they held the lead and the ball verses last night when we were down 4. I always enjoy hearing about a situation that has absolutely nothing to do with what we are talking about.

The only favorable look they had was the oline pushing the packers d-line back in every running play on that drive. Even Romo wouldnt' have thrown the football there if it was RPO with a favorable look, he would understand the bigger picture that a score would give you the lead but won't put the game away.

People just making things up. The closest thing to a red zone run was 4th and 1. Zeke got the first by a butt hair.

But please tell me more about how the OLB line pushed GB back on every single running play. Go on. I'll wait.

Yeh like GB's situation was the same as ours.

Go read what @Beast_from_East posted about how Giants lost to us doing the same thing we did. I doubt it but you might learn something.
That situation was nothing like this one. NY had the lead...learn something indeed.

So a writer who gets paid to write to stir controversy is proof of argument?
