People "grow apart" when they screw up. Maybe not something as blatant as abuse or an affair, but neglect, being absent, laziness, too self-absorebed ........ I just can't see those as good reasons either.

Maybe I'm the exception, but I've been married over 20 years and have gone through a hell of a lot of ups and downs, but I never thought of marriage as something that has a shelf life.

I feel sorry for the superficial replies in this thread. I also feel sorry for the whole family. Divorce hurts; there was probably a lot of hurting going on already, but divorce hurts. Sad situation. And sad that people think that rich people have easier lives.

I agree completely with you. Great post.

What gave it away? The "girl" in my screen name?

Yeah, that and the fact that any guy would be focusing on the wife not some kid. And the kid ain't all that cute. Just your average kid.

Reminds me of when a woman says another woman is pretty. Women have a somewhat different opinion of beauty than men based on my experience.

Does it really qualify as "experience" when it can be stored in between your mattress and box-springs or a DVD jewel case?

So, I'm a woman and had no thoughts about the kid. I'd hate to imagine where I would fit into your cookie cutter gender definitions.

Also, there's a pretty common phrase about how beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It's solely relative to how the individual sees the person and just about zero to do with the gender of the looker.

But then, far too many men think that only LA Supermodels are good looking.

Not DVDs. Try VHS.

The experience I am talking about is talking to other women about beauty. Any female ever try to set you up on a blind date with one of her friends? Your first question is is she pretty. You get an answer but you don't know what it means. It's a secret coded response;)

"Yes, she's pretty" could translate as "not as pretty as me."
"She's cute" could translate as "prettier than me."
"Other guys find her attractive" could translate as "smokin' hot body."

Not only is beauty in the eye of the beholder, it is also gender-related, and it is culture-related. I lived in Asia for several years. My wife is Japanese. The Asian girls Western men find attractive is a lot of times different than those the Asian men find attractive. Yes, it was a topic of discussion numerous times with my Japanese friends.

I don't mean to sound superficial or anything, but unless his wife has a medical condition or what not, there is no reason she should have let that much weight be put on her with Troy Aikman as her husband. It's not like she's hurting for money or needs to work a day job to support the kids, and so doesn't have enough time. The one thing she could do is maintain her physical stature, at least after having kids.

And yes, I would feel the same way if the tables were turned, and a man was married to a "sugar momma" so to speak, so I'm not trying to be implicitly sexist.

If part of the reason you were married was due to physical attraction based on physique, I would assume that both parties would try to maintain that as much as possible except for reasons that are beyond one's control, i.e. age, etc.

Well, that's exactly what it is.

No it isn't. It depends upon the individuals who are involved. People seem to take offense when this is said, but a part (sometimes a large one, especially if your status is considered high) of why people get involved with someone is physical attraction, and the latter tends to be more important on the male side than the female side. Is it the only reason? No. It's a holistic decision that involves a lot of different factors.

Holy crap. All I posted was that IF that was Troy's daughter she was cute. It's just my opinion. I don't know what my being a woman has to do with thinking that but whatever floats your boat.

There is a lot of truth in what you say although its not PC in some circles.
