Aikman?

If you want to talk about former team homers/cowboy haters, how about Randy Cross. This guy makes me sick. When he does a Cowboy game, I turn the tv sound off and listen to the radio broadcast.

I did notice what some are saying about Aikman, so did my son, and so did my wife, ... who loves Aikman.(when he was still playing, she wouldn't let anyone say anything bad about him, ;) )

But more than that, I just got tired of hearing him, ... he never shuts up !

Would you rather hear Collinsworth?

I thought Troy was bitter yesterday, anybody remember that tight end he tried out and talked the Cowboys into taking in the first round, his name escapes me but not sure that he's exactly a talent expert. Honestly he reminds me of Elway he may be great at playing QB but honestly he's not a rocket scientist thats for sure...

I tend to like the broadcasters who weren't players.
Musberger, Mike Patrick, Al Michaels. (except Michaels is a Dallas-hater !)

I loved Aikman as a Cowboy, ... but as a colorman, not so much.

Really..?

Yes, really.

Even at the expense of proving himself wrong by a wide margin about the quality of the team in it's first game..?

I have no idea what you're talking about. Aikman has nothing to prove. He's on Fox's first team in three years.

I don't think so. Gone are the days were Aikman has to pretend that it's the Cowboys first and Aikman second.

Who says he's pretending?

That's what we are getting now. Aikman first, Cowboys about 10 furlongs behind.

You have your perception. I have mine.

I think Aikman is jealous of what has happened where Jerrah finally went out and hired a quality coach in Parcells where he wouldn't do it during Aikman's tenure post-Jimmie..

I don't think he's jealous. He's upset, sure because like any competitor, it cost him and his team victories. Unfortunately, JJ learned a little too late for Aikman.

..and his even madder to see Jones spending wildly on players now when he didn't do it before when Aikman was there to put better players on the field for Parcells when he wouldn't do it for Aikman with a string of blip coaches like Switzer/Gailey/Campo in the post-SB years.

Please. If there is one thing you can't criticize JJ for is spending money on players, especially after the Emmitt debacle.

There is bitterness with Aikman. He wasn't happy yesterday we won.

Really? You talked to him after the game and he told you?

He was shuregrinned. Eating crow and being humbled by the play on the field.

The most important thing to any of these announcers in the booth is that they are right. Their contracts require it.

The most important thing is they appear objective, comment on the game correctly, provide insights, and are at least semi-interesting in the process. Obviously, some commentators don't provide any of the above, e.g. Theisman, but there are many in other occupations that are similar to him.

If they continually make poor predictions or poor commentary or show bias, they'll be released or demoted. They are always one comment away from the exit.

Just ask Jimmy the Greek or a few others that "tell it like it is" and are suddenly out the door.

ROFL. Jimmy the Greek said that black people were "bred" to be better athletes because of slavery. Not only was it racist, it was utter nonsense.

Aikman would do well to be less of what he is and more what he should be.

Unbiased.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Ya know, I have to say this...I get a huge kick out of people complaining about media bias against the Cowboys. No other fans so consistently ***** and moan about how no one loves us; which is one of the reasons why no one loves us. Existential paradox.

From Al Michaels, now, to TROY AIKMAN? Puhleeze.

I watched the game. Twice. I heard no bias against the Cowboys from Aikman. And the second time I watched the game, I did so with this in mind.

Does a guy have to wear a Cowboy's jersey on the broadcast for you guys to be happy? Is it too much to handle when a broadcasters gives an objective point of view?

And then, to top it off, out come all the Oliver Stone theories as to why Aikman is biased against the Cowboys. Ya know, because we all know Troy Aikman so well we can speak about what he's thinking and the reason he does things.

Have you ever watched Rodeo or Racing telecasts? The most maddening aspect of them without a doubt is that the announcers have nothing but glowing reviews.

In rodeo the next guy up is always the man to watch. Nothing critical is said unless he fails and even then it is mild.

I do not mind honest critical analysis which is what I think Troy gives. Quite the opposite of Joe Thiesman who figures he can't criticize the Commanders.

Personally I find Troy objectivity to be validating.

Indeed.

When I was a kid, growing up in Brooklyn, that is the one thing that really annoyed me about watching the rodeo.

And ya know, since I've moved to Long Island, it's the same thing; the broadcasts make me crazy.

That's why I always go to watch the rodeo in person on Long Island.

 ;)

Then you can relate. Good. I hate talking about stuff which someone has no basis of comparison.

First off, NO, I have never watched rodeo or car racing ! ;)

A couple of instances I remember with Aikman yesterday was as if he was looking for something bad to happen for the Cowboys.

Like on our first posession of the 2nd half. We got a penalty. He mentions the one drive in the first half when we had 5 penalties, and then says, "Here they go again", or something like that.

After ONE penalty !!

Another time was after LT had been stopped for 38 yards. He then had a run of 2 yds, and then 1 or something.
Then he ripped one for 8 or 10 and Aikman says, "There have been stoppong him, but now here he goes!"

After ONE good run !

It's like he is hoping we have five penalties again, or he is hoping LT goes off.

He shouldn't put any spin on what is happening.

I'm sorry, I see nothing at all amiss in those statements.

I think he's trying a little too hard some times to not come across as a Cowboys homer. I think a lot of former players who become announcers do this .. Theisman is the only exception I can think of :)

Randy Cross, ex 49er was a homer and Cowboy hater. Never ever said one good thing about Dallas. The other Cowboy hater was Todd Christianson, ex-Raider. I think he held a grudge because the Cowboys cut him after TC. He couldn't be satisfied with a good career with Oakland. Must of wanted to be a Cowboy real bad to have never gotten over it.

Theisman is just an idiot, he probably actually believes he is being truthful.
Mike Patrick needs to give it up. He must make at least 10 player/team name mistakes a game, and anti Dallas
McGuire, well enough said. He was absolutely rooting for the Steelers in SB XXX
Got to be the worst trio of announcers EVER.

Shows what you know, ... LOL, just kidding.

I guess we just disagree, and that's cool.

But he was wrong on both counts. We didn't commit a bunch of penalties again, and LT didn't start busting out and have a big day that hurt us.

So it sounds like he wanted that to be the case, but it clearly wasn't.
